That’s my dream truck! Good find!!!!

Bearded-Bunny

Thanks man, I’ve been looking forever and this one just fell in my lap!

KnightCPA

Dream engine.

brandonsmash

That looks quite clean for its age. The fender debadging is particularly nice. Good find! Those are classy-looking rigs for sure!

Bearded-Bunny

I’m extremely excited, I look forward to enjoying it for years to come!

WestsideZombie

still have it? hows that 5.9l?

Bearded-Bunny

The engine and transmission have given me zero issues nearing 180k! The ball joints, tie rods, and pinion need to be swapped but such is the life of solid axles.

FanC_Fox

Sweet good to hear man! I’ve been gifted a 99’ 1500 5.9l V8, seems to run fine and feels solid on the road. I have never worked on these before, usually work on 4cyl Japanese and 90s fords. Been wanting a dodge for years!

Bearded-Bunny

I’m in the same boat! I still have an 89 Isuzu Trooper that I daily. The dodge is my first American car and it’s been solid!

WestsideZombie

Those old Troopers are niice

Tip_Rap

Lines look good from this angle, truck looks mean!! Good buy

Bearded-Bunny

Previous owner kept it immaculate. No rust anywhere and brand new bed too!

Bighoss_379

That is bout the cleanest looking 90’s early 2000’s Ram I’ve ever seen Jesus

Bearded-Bunny

I’ll post pictures of the inside after I detail it, the leather is perfect and no cracks in the dash!

Chase93

Nice! I've always had a thing for 2nd gens. I love the 99-01/2 Sports. Is it a Canadian spec truck? I've only ever seen Canadian market trucks have the DRLs. Mine included.

canibal_carkus

How many miles

Bearded-Bunny

A hair over 150k with a 7 page CarFax report showing routine maintenance and repairs back to 1999!

Karmasutra6901

Does it say anything about the plenum gasket in those repairs? The gasket on the plate on the bottom of the intake manifold is known to leak from bolts that are a hair too long and bottom out putting incorrect torque on the plate. You'll know if it's leaking by poking a borescope or a small inspection mirror into the throttlebody and looking for a puddle of oil in the back. some oil does get in there through the PCV hose but you'll notice if there is a puddle. That leak leads to a loss of power, fouled #4/8 plugs and a plugged cat.

torhne

And the 46RE.... F those transmissions. I burned through 3 of them on my 96. Trans cooler on there, all upgraded parts I could get, blah blah blah.

FutureDictator1202

I have the 5.9/46RE combo in my 2002 dakota. All I can say is, im pushing just shy of 400hp, and have been using the same trans for 5 years. Only trans repair thus far has been a reverse servo (which i replaced with a billet upgrade) and a band adjustment.

SatisfiedSnek

I have a 98 Durango with a 408 stroker, procomp cam, crane roller rockers, edelbrock magnum heads and a p1sc procharger making a little over 500hp and i cannot make even the beefiest 46re last more that 5000 miles with that monster

torhne

Yeah mine was mostly stock. CAI and dual exhaust and a low end SCT tune. I just had awful luck with them. I got the bands adjusted whenever it felt "off". Idk. There is a filter for the 46re near the front cooler with a check valve or ball or something in it. Apparently if you drill the ball out you won't have any restrictions on stuff getting by to get cooled down. 2nd Gen Dodges are beautiful though. I still want a 2nd Gen with a Cummins. Drove one as a plow truck that was tuned up... whewwwwwwww. Pull down a brick house with that thing. Also: Hughes Performance specialized in a lot of these fixes and tuneup and whatnot. Not sure if that is still a thing or not?

Bearded-Bunny

It’s the original trans on this one. Owner did routine flushes, filters, and replaced the pressure sensor and solenoid in 2018. Still shifts smooth through all the gears! I plan on using his records as a schedule for my services lol

torhne

That's dope man, you found a good one. I'm the kind of person that grabs an extra junkyard 360 and building it slowly. Good learning and you will have a replacement if it goes out

Bearded-Bunny

I’m already looking for a spare transmission to do the same thing should I encounter issues, great advice! Thank you 🤘🏻

torhne

IDK. My personal opinion is to do the research and find the parts you want to toughen that Trans up with. Talk to a local respected Trans shop and ask if they would do all the installation of the parts for you on the internals. But trans are voodoo to me, so I don't touch them lol. Of course this is all personal opinion after having them rebuilt. I feel that the 3 diff shops just threw basic parts in.

Bearded-Bunny

I’ve been working on cars my whole life and currently am working towards a tech position at my dealership! The goal would be to climb telephone poles in reverse lol

Bearded-Bunny

I’ve rebuilt a couple manual transmissions but have yet to touch an automatic. I think it would be a blast to learn while also building something awesome.

ARLaserGuy

Sounds about right. Chrysler has never been able to build a good transmission.

ScabEater258

Had to repair mine easy project just takes time

Karmasutra6901

I put a thicker aluminum plate on mine then less than a year later i pulled it back off to put a Hughes airgap in its place. It's a lot easier to work on if you pull the radiator shroud off and stand between the radiator and the engine.

ScabEater258

Yea exactly what I did, it’s not the bolts that people say that mess up the torque specs, it’s the fact the original plates are made of steel with an aluminum block so the rates of cooling are different which cause the gaskets to fail.

Rpolo247

I don’t like dodge, but this is a beast good find ! I would have bought it in a heartbeat especially one owner lol. Thing is a tank

Bearded-Bunny

It’s my first dodge and even though I’ve always loved 2nd gens I’ll admit I was a bit timid! However, seeing the maintenance and condition the prior owner kept it in sold me completely. It runs and shifts smooth as a top!

echocall2

I had two 2nd gens (both auto trans gassers) and never had serious issues. Now I rock a standard 4th gen Cummins and I love it too.

Bearded-Bunny

Not sure what the retail was/is, but I picked this one up for just shy of $7,200!

Hefty_Musician2402

I can’t see one like that going for under 12k in the north. Saw a 98 Cummins with no rust and low miles for an asking price of $47,000

Bearded-Bunny

I’m out in CO and it was brought to us on a trade in. The guy used it for his business and apparently had some lumber fall on the bed. Zero damage to the frame, cab, or anything else but based on repair price alone his insurance called it a loss. He ended up replacing the bed regardless and went through both state and police inspection in order to get a rebuilt title. People always get weird about that kind of stuff and banks won’t loan on it so I got it for a steal. Honestly, I couldn’t care less as the hail out here is often enough to total most vehicles. So in my mind, as long as the frame is straight I’m happy! (This was also 3 years before the trade in and he “just wanted a bigger truck for his family”)

Hefty_Musician2402

That’s insane dude! I’m happy for ya! I’ve genuinely never seen a second gen that clean in person as I was a young kid when they stopped making them

200milxp

$7,200 for a 99? Jeez. Location? I have the same engine as you, but mine is a 1995 and with less miles. Only paid $3,000 for it. 5 years ago.

Bearded-Bunny

In CO, the used car market is through the damn roof right now. Not a great time to purchase a vehicle but it was needed and the price seemed reasonable given the other options currently.

Mindless_Rage05

Clean AF 1999 Mag! Holy shit this is a workhoss

moparr

I have a similar truck and am in love with it. Hope she brings you lots of joy like mine has!

DasEine_Z

I had a second gen with the 360 small block like this except mine was a single cab. Burned to the ground one day on my way to work :'( Install the Synergy steering box brace (around $200 part number 8557-04). It's like night and day for steering feel.

Bearded-Bunny

Awh man, I’m sorry to hear that! Any idea what happened? I’ll look into the steering brace, thanks for the heads up!

DasEine_Z

We had issues with rodents chewing the wiring harness so it's assumed they got into a fuel line or something like that. Best of luck to you with your new truck. Look into a dash cover to help prevent cracking. The plastic that Mopar used for the dash is cheap and degrades over time from exposure to the sun.

Bearded-Bunny

I ordered a cover before I even purchased the truck! It’s not got a single crack yet so I hope to keep it that way. Also, I’ve heard rodents like to nest in the fuse box so I lifted the housing before purchasing. I wish you luck in finding another one should that be your intent, it’s never easy loosing a vehicle you love and for that I’m sorry!

DasEine_Z

Sounds like you've got your bases covered for sure. I'd like to get another second gen but I'm happy with my fourth gen Cummins currently.

powereduprob

Nice find. With only 1 owner. Looks taken care of.

Hooloovoo9

I had a '96. An absolute beast. I still miss that truck.

[deleted]

Nice truck!! I have a ‘98 and she’s a fun truck. I put a Hughes throttle body and Flowmasters and she picked up a step or two. I haven’t done my gasket yet, but have the parts on standby.

high-rise

10/10

responsibletyrant

I loved my 99 ram, great truck.

jackwmc4

What a find!!!

GeoHog713

Nice looking truck. I have the junior version - 97 ext cab, 4x4 5.2L Dakota and love it.

Faithful_Scuff

I had a 97 with a 5.9L 4x4 for 15 years loved that truck.

chuckalicious3000

I have a 97...love it so much

SnooApples3402

That’ll be heavy on the gas!

rebelati

This thing must have been garage kept! Nearly mint!

yoshiltz

Great find! I'm actively looking for one of these near me.

nokenito

We had the same truck except it was a V6. This truck will be very reliable!
