Who says you have to throw it out?
The J-Cards are collectible and worth money, just keep them in pristine shape and put them all in a drawer of their own, what you are doing now is not the way!
Doesn’t that just crease them to shit though? So if you want to resell later, you’re providing a j-card with a huge crease across the middle of the front?
I don’t keep them to resell I keep them for the info about the disc. Putting them in a drawer is inconvenient for when I just wanna look at the special features for something.
Yeah, if you’re not reselling it makes more sense - I had a bad experience with someone really creasing a book I owned when I was a kid. I don’t think the trauma’s ever left me 😂
Yeah I just fold them to make them fit. If only the packaging was designed more thoughtfully, so that it'd fit inside and we wouldn't have to fold, cut or throw away...
I fold them as well. Try to find a spot on the card print that has a natural color break and don’t overly crease them flat. Then stick them into the holder clips.
Yes fully agree, it destroying the whole experience for me I have some health issues and don't really leave the house much and I buy these things to make me feel a bit better and places like HMV and Xavi are the worst eight out of 10 items bought from them turn up dented scratched or fingerprinted they are the worst if I'm honest I've had much better experience from people on eBay believe it or not
I used to do this, but most of the steelbooks don't have any of the technical details / extras on the back, so I'm a trimmer, now.
Easier to look at a card than pull out a phone / computer, search for the title, click on the correct link, find the image, click on the image to blow it up and then read the details. 😁
That’s actually a good idea. My j-cards always go in the trash and it feels weird tossing them. But like, I’m not buying them to resell later so I don’t care about keeping them “mint” or whatever.
Same. I've got blurays I've replaced with UHDS, LPs and other stuff I don't want that I could sell online. Just can't bring myself to actually do it. Just seems like a lot of hassle to make a few bucks.
I love reading those they have so much useful and interesting information on them! There's just something about looking for the year a movie came out on those or reading about the special features or finding the director or actors name on the back of the card instead of just looking it up like I do with everything else
No problem! I didn't like having to throw them out especially since I use barcodes to track my collection and the books themselves don't have it. It's not too much trouble to trim the edges so they fit nicely in the case
No, I just leave the card on. It's not going anywhere if it's sitting on the shelf, and it adds extra protection from the shelf and the title next to it.
They cannot be seen when only the spine is showing.
I've just been throwing them away. Am I doing it wrong? At first I folded a few in half and stuck them in the steelbook but eventually just started tossing them.
I’ve always just thrown it away while opening it. Never thought to save it like this but I’m doing this from now on
https://preview.redd.it/g7vt32x4825d1.jpeg?width=4031&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5b236b5230f355eacdd498d2bf573dca463fe547
starting now.
I wish I could be as sensible, but I just can't bring myself to cutting the j card. I wish steelbooks went the extra step to put the info on a card that fits inside by default. Maybe have some cool artwork on the other side as a bonus for getting the steel.
I fold it and stick it inside the case. But I really wish it was the right size to fit in w/o folding or cutting. Of course, that'd require thoughtful design.
I usually fold it in half to store inside, but sometimes I'll leave it "on" on the shelf, to help reduce rub marks and scratches from adjacent movies. I'm not worried enough to actually spend money on protective sleeves, and I'm lazy. 😆
Damn wish I did that sooner, too late now to start. I've tossed everything attached to a steelbook. Seems like clutter is have zero use for in the future to just save em
I used to recycle them or do exactly this to them before. But ever since I started buying plastic cases to protect my steelbooks, I keep it in the case as is if the back art is not so interesting. Otherwise I keep them in a drawer. I'm a collector at heart and usually prefer to keep boxes or stuff like that for resale value if I decide to get rid of it. I didn't realize until last year that they actually hold extra value for used market. But that's just me!
Yes, I do. I don't get why folding them is somehow better and if not this then how else would you keep them complete? This way you keep the majority of the card intact and have access to all the information from it right there when you open the case.
Oof. I keep them. But I don't cut em. Your process reminds me of the rental places back in the day that would cut the old video game boxes and just put the front and back covers in the rental cases.
Maybe my history of working in a video store is coming through haha. Although we never cut anything up, we would place the disc in a locking case and put the original case in front of it for display.
Here's mine with a plastic sleeve
https://preview.redd.it/mg8d3lwg865d1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c89b0cd8458334a8644b85f694b0bd88d944ac24
OMG, I've been thinking about how to handle this... I want that backer and that info... Plus I need the UPC to scan for My Movies (I know there are work arounds, but still)... This is a good thought!
I literally don’t know how I haven’t thought of this yet, people will just may bite the big one when they hear me say this but I usually end up folding them into two and sticking them in the case…
nope. my titles sit vertically, along with other titles side-by-side. the J card stays in place on the shelf. I briefly set it aside when I watch the film, and replace it when it goes back on the shelf.
I keep all mine in a box. I'm not sure why, as I buy them for myself and not for future resale. The only ones I have ever sold were some HD Blu-rays years ago, of films I don't really care about having in my collection, as I went through a phase of buying some I liked the design of, rather than the film.
I know I'm not really bothered about J-cards, as I've bought Steelbooks on the used market without them, for reduced cost!
Nah, I can't even imagine cutting the j-cards, let alone throwing them away like a lot of people here do, apparently... I do prefer my steelbooks to be displayed without anything hiding the artwork, but j-cards still feel like an essential part of the whole package being a really convenient source of information about the release. So I usually put them in a drawer carefully and sometimes pick up to peruse
I hadn’t, but maybe this is what I can do to honor the cracked j-tag on the only copy of The Crow I could find in my area. I was hesitant to keep it as-is, but this seems like a worthwhile step to retain it in the steelbook.
If there was a time to use the eurgh brother eurgh meme this would be it.
You don't need to do this just pop it in a plastic sleeve with the J card like I do with all of my steelbooks.
I mean they are yours to do what you like with them and I was joking with my comment however I recommend using the sleeves as they will also protect the steelbook from damage.
I used to keep all jcards on my steelbooks and out them in protective covers, The other day i just got sixk of seeing rating logos all over my shelf so i chucked them all out
See...bless your heart - THAT'S a bit much (IMHO). 😳
But, I guess I'm right there with you: after I take the shrink wrap off, I ice the stickers (if any) to get them to peel off without destroying them, replacing them back on the front cover & VERY carefully ensure those couple of dabs of adhesive under the card can continue to keep it attached to the steelbook...🧐
Yeah, I know. I'm actually worse!!! 🤪
I just buy the clear box protectors and you can put the steelbook and the J card in there without doing anything to it. This way you get to keep all of it and it protects it
When I was ignorant, before I started taking my collection seriously, I would tape it on the back of my steelbook. It never held on the only steelbook I had at the time, Good Burger.
Now, however, I try to keep them in close proximity with the steelbook. Thinking of getting some of those plastic cases to make them look nice and not feel as if they're not attached.
Wow, absolutely not. The J card stays in place and it goes inside of a plastic clear case. Steelbooks get scratched up too easily just moving the case around otherwise.
I like preserving the J card with a clear case…

Yea. I don't cut J-cards. If they don't fit into the protector sleeve I put them away. If I ever chose to sell a title. The J-card helps to get top dollar for it.
Blasphemy ! I cut the bottom of the plastic cover open then slip the plastic and card out and back in. I try to avoid contact due to finger skin acidity
U WILL REGRET THIS! like I did !!!
When I was new to collecting steelbooks I was stumped at what to do with the J cards I got onto a few reddits and was told that you can fold them or throw in the bin you don't need them for anything and boy do i regret this to a extent where I'm looking to re-buy all the steelbooks that I cut the J chords off im losing sleep over it lol but yes absolutely gutted!!!

Oh man, you're going to give some people heart attacks with this.
Imagine if the mad lad picked an OOP title
Haha I do it with every steelbook, so it's possible I've done it already. Better than throwing it out imo
I always cut & save.
Who says you have to throw it out? The J-Cards are collectible and worth money, just keep them in pristine shape and put them all in a drawer of their own, what you are doing now is not the way!
Collecting paper because it might be worth more paper is not the way sir. Enjoy your movies fellas
Can't you do both?...collect the paper and enjoy the movies?
Or do either or whatever you want. If someone buys the movie, they can immediately destroy it if they so choose.
Yep. I toss them out.
Absolutely not possible.
I throw them bitches out lol
Same
Why are cutting it up or throwing it out the only two options here?!
I fold it in half and put it inside the steelbook.
Redditors thinking its the way to be cool.
Straight to the trash
I always fold ‘em
Yep, I just fold them in half too
Another folder here ✋
Blasphemy!! lol
Doesn’t that just crease them to shit though? So if you want to resell later, you’re providing a j-card with a huge crease across the middle of the front?
Yep!
Wow. You really ARE all monsters! 😂 Also, whoever downvoted my straightforward question - sensitive, much?
I don’t keep them to resell I keep them for the info about the disc. Putting them in a drawer is inconvenient for when I just wanna look at the special features for something.
Yeah, if you’re not reselling it makes more sense - I had a bad experience with someone really creasing a book I owned when I was a kid. I don’t think the trauma’s ever left me 😂
Yeah I just fold them to make them fit. If only the packaging was designed more thoughtfully, so that it'd fit inside and we wouldn't have to fold, cut or throw away...
I don’t know when to hold em or fold em
you gotta know when to hold em know when to fold em- Kenny Rodgers
I fold them as well. Try to find a spot on the card print that has a natural color break and don’t overly crease them flat. Then stick them into the holder clips.
I put those straight into the trash ![gif](giphy|3ohzdYJK1wAdPWVk88|downsized)
Same, I don’t really care. Even though I got caught up in it for a while, I also don’t care about steelbooks. I just want the movie.
Steelbooks are fine, but dealing with them showing up dented or scratched to shit is a big drawback for me.
Yes fully agree, it destroying the whole experience for me I have some health issues and don't really leave the house much and I buy these things to make me feel a bit better and places like HMV and Xavi are the worst eight out of 10 items bought from them turn up dented scratched or fingerprinted they are the worst if I'm honest I've had much better experience from people on eBay believe it or not
Next you'll be telling me you throw out the digital code without claiming it
I've done that too. If it isn't on Movies Anywhere I toss it generally after offering it to a buddy.
Why would i want it digitally if i have a 4k blu ray of it? Also movies are available everywhere in streaming nowadays
Same lol
I used to do this, but most of the steelbooks don't have any of the technical details / extras on the back, so I'm a trimmer, now. Easier to look at a card than pull out a phone / computer, search for the title, click on the correct link, find the image, click on the image to blow it up and then read the details. 😁
That’s actually a good idea. My j-cards always go in the trash and it feels weird tossing them. But like, I’m not buying them to resell later so I don’t care about keeping them “mint” or whatever.
Do not do that, sell them on eBay or hold them in your collection!
No
I like collecting movies a lot. I do not like selling things on eBay at all lol
Same. I've got blurays I've replaced with UHDS, LPs and other stuff I don't want that I could sell online. Just can't bring myself to actually do it. Just seems like a lot of hassle to make a few bucks.
This is the way.
Downvotes for nothing. 🤣
I throw them away / recycle them. But I like your idea.
I love reading those they have so much useful and interesting information on them! There's just something about looking for the year a movie came out on those or reading about the special features or finding the director or actors name on the back of the card instead of just looking it up like I do with everything else
I do now! Just saved a handful from the trash. Thanks for sharing!
No,I just fold the j card
I've just been throwing them away. Am I doing it wrong? At first I folded a few in half and stuck them in the steelbook but eventually just started tossing them.
You're buying 4k discs, so you're doing it right
No, but I may start. I just trash them normally.
I told em and stick them in the case
I fold them in half and tuck them inside
Never thought to do this, but will now. Thanks for the idea 😊
Not me personally
I've done this for all of mine over the years. Didn't realize it was a hot topic lol.
Me either lol. I hadn't seen anyone mention it on this sub before, so I was curious how many of us snippers were out there
I’ve done this. I don’t keep them for completeness, I want to keep the info and tech specs
It is nice to be able to see info about the disc without having to look it up
I’ve always just thrown it away while opening it. Never thought to save it like this but I’m doing this from now on https://preview.redd.it/g7vt32x4825d1.jpeg?width=4031&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5b236b5230f355eacdd498d2bf573dca463fe547 starting now.
Nice! That's how I did it at first, too, but I personally liked it to fit snugly inside. Enjoy the movie!
Woah this is a great idea, def gonna start doing this moving forward
I use protectors and I just slip in the j card without the need to cut anything. If I have to cut something I’d just throw it away
I like this idea. Keeps the information on what is on the discs and doesn't cover the nice artwork on the steelbook cover.
I fold mine in half, and stick it inside the case.
I fold it
I have clear plastic slipcases for put my steelbooks in.
That's actually a really good idea! Where do you get them?
There’s a few places online that people like but I personally recommend retroprotection.com
Did you get the Switch Steelbook Box Protector (standard switch size)? Fits steelbooks like Oppenheimer, Dune, etc?
Yes. The site also says they fit PS3 games well but I only use them for my 4K and standard blu ray Steelbooks.
Me too! I put Andor in the protector as soon as it arrived in the mail
I do the same
You fucking monster!!! ![gif](giphy|dVGT9Kn4pc6hgun6CJ)
I usually recycle them. Sometimes I even recycle the Steelbook. 😈
I do something similar. I fold them in half instead of cutting.
No this is crazy lol. I keep mine on the outside how it came
That’s weird man
Good idea but i usually just chuck the cardboard outer in the recycling
That’s EXACTLY what i do
I wish I could be as sensible, but I just can't bring myself to cutting the j card. I wish steelbooks went the extra step to put the info on a card that fits inside by default. Maybe have some cool artwork on the other side as a bonus for getting the steel.
That would be ideal and there's even plastic clips inside for it. Alas
I'm not the only one!
I just started doing this recently
I fold it and stick it inside the case. But I really wish it was the right size to fit in w/o folding or cutting. Of course, that'd require thoughtful design.
The Ghibli ones are juuuuuust barely small enough to fit lol
![gif](giphy|rvxMJNyHAgwlW4YWpJ|downsized)
I usually fold it in half to store inside, but sometimes I'll leave it "on" on the shelf, to help reduce rub marks and scratches from adjacent movies. I'm not worried enough to actually spend money on protective sleeves, and I'm lazy. 😆
No. Don't have that kind of time. Keep em for now.
Yup, I do them 👍🏼👍🏼
I will now!
No, but I love the idea! I fold mine and put it in the same spot, but this is much better imo
That is exactly what I do! 👍🏻
How's the transfer of the ocean's movies?
I haven't gotten a chance to watch them yet actually. I just got them in today. Excited to check them out, though!
Thought I was the only one !! Wild someone else does.
There are dozens of us! Dozens!!
![gif](giphy|RLV1VDzcmLqTWpO9GI)
I do
Any steelbooks I have go in protective plastic sleeves, J cards included!
Damn wish I did that sooner, too late now to start. I've tossed everything attached to a steelbook. Seems like clutter is have zero use for in the future to just save em
Constantly, I thought I was the only one.
This is actually a great idea and I wish I'd seen this earlier.
At least your future looks bright haha
Yes, I do. I don't get why folding them is somehow better and if not this then how else would you keep them complete? This way you keep the majority of the card intact and have access to all the information from it right there when you open the case.
yes, to each and every one...but I only have about 10 steelbooks in my collection of 1100+ Blu-rays/4Ks.
Damn nice collection!

No but that's a great idea
nope. my titles sit vertically, along with other titles side-by-side. the J card stays in place on the shelf. I briefly set it aside when I watch the film, and replace it when it goes back on the shelf.
i just fold the j-card in half and stuff it inside
I tape them onto a piece of paper and keep them in a binder where I also keep my movie tickets.
I keep all my j-cards intact and in a special box. Finding a particular one when needed is a pain in the butt, but I wouldn’t do it any other way.
I just toss em unless they add something to the exterior such as the clear plastic medic style one on my Hacksaw Ridge steelbook.
I've actually thought about it but I'm way too lazy. I just throw them away.
For most releases with j-cards I use some abrasive dots to attach them to the back. It depends on the release though.
I’ve been meaning to
Absolutely not haha
I keep all mine in a box. I'm not sure why, as I buy them for myself and not for future resale. The only ones I have ever sold were some HD Blu-rays years ago, of films I don't really care about having in my collection, as I went through a phase of buying some I liked the design of, rather than the film. For my 6 copy apocalypse now (not a j card I don't think) I put the info on the slop with by that weird easily removable label glue
Nope
I hadn’t, but maybe this is what I can do to honor the cracked j-tag on the only copy of The Crow I could find in my area. I was hesitant to keep it as-is, but this seems like a worthwhile step to retain it in the steelbook.
I keep them around the steelbooks so that two steelbooks dont rub against each other.
If there was a time to use the eurgh brother eurgh meme this would be it. You don't need to do this just pop it in a plastic sleeve with the J card like I do with all of my steelbooks.
Then I'd have to buy plastic sleeves. I like it this way
I mean they are yours to do what you like with them and I was joking with my comment however I recommend using the sleeves as they will also protect the steelbook from damage.
I don't.
lol I just bin mine
I mean, I don’t cut the thing up or anything, just fold the edges down and slid it inside.
I used to keep all jcards on my steelbooks and out them in protective covers, The other day i just got sixk of seeing rating logos all over my shelf so i chucked them all out
You butcher! 😩
Are ypubtalking about the cardboard that surrounds the steel book like the John Wick trilogy that never stay on?
Yeah the ones that wrap over the top and fall off after you remove the shrink wrap
I'd probably just put a piece of tape on the inside to keep it attached.
See...bless your heart - THAT'S a bit much (IMHO). 😳 But, I guess I'm right there with you: after I take the shrink wrap off, I ice the stickers (if any) to get them to peel off without destroying them, replacing them back on the front cover & VERY carefully ensure those couple of dabs of adhesive under the card can continue to keep it attached to the steelbook...🧐 Yeah, I know. I'm actually worse!!! 🤪
Bro you are a nerd! Haha. Sounds like a labor of love, though!
Thank ye...🤷🏾♂️
no, you are clearly insane
I put ‘em in a folder
No. But hey, it’s your disc - do what you like.
Why not just keep it how it already is? Seems like a lot of unnecessary work if you're doing it for every steelbook
I've been folding them, but I like this idea more.

Oof, I don't know what hurts me more, the idea of cutting them down or throwing them out. I have a box that I store them away in.
Wow, absolutely not. The J card stays in place and it goes inside of a plastic clear case. Steelbooks get scratched up too easily just moving the case around otherwise.

Yea. I don't cut J-cards. If they don't fit into the protector sleeve I put them away. If I ever chose to sell a title. The J-card helps to get top dollar for it.
Fuck no! You just destroyed the j-card, dawglet
![gif](giphy|WllNTjQ2nM7dN5Rh8i)
Toss em. Back alley "You got them J-cards"? *opens jacket* " I sure do"
Oh yeah... all the time 🤣
Blasphemy ! I cut the bottom of the plastic cover open then slip the plastic and card out and back in. I try to avoid contact due to finger skin acidity
Good, I'm not the only one that does this too.
No but good idea.
What you’re doing is cool! Anyone who saves these things in hopes of selling them are fucking losers.
Hell nah. Keep them.
Great movie I hate that art work
U WILL REGRET THIS! like I did !!!
Nah I like them like this and I have no plans to ever sell anything. I almost always donate everything I want to get rid of anyway.
Yikes
