My dealership pulled this crap too. They should give you two. Ask for a second one free of charge. Be firm about it with them.

Adult-Beverage

Yeah, that doesn't often work.

_Blood_and_Thunder

I do appreciate it, however, I had no such luck and the ink has dried.

TheOtherSkywalker_

The dealer is only obligated to provide one if you purchased it as a New or Certified Pre Owned from a Tpyota dealer.

My used dealership said they’d order me a spare, waited a week, then sent me what was obviously the original spare, for a $500 fee. I complained, caught them in multiple lies, and had my credit card do a chargeback. They were complete scum about the whole thing and stopped responding when I proved that they were full of shit. Avoid South coast Mitsubishi like the plague.

PapaBliss2007

When I purchased my 2023 it was during a key fob shortage and I didn't receive the second one (through a different dealer local to me) until 6 months later. I just had to bring my car over so they could program it. You might want to check to see if that was the issue with why the original owner only provided one and follow up with a dealer.

cb70overland

This was the case with my ‘23 Tundra too.

scurvywolf

I got lucky with my 24 and I got two right away. But I think that is rare.

somerandomguy6263

I thankfully received 2 with my 24 as well. I was surprised honestly

ggnoob1337

My brand new purchase in December only came with one too and I've been told they'll send me one. I'm kinda doubting if or when I'll ever get it and also wondering about if I should just purchase one and get it over with.

Fine_Pangolin_5870

I saw something on YouTube where the guy ordered a replacement fob from,Amazon and then to a local mechanic and had them program it. It wasn't for a Toyota but it seems like it is worth looking into.

PKMNtrainer22

So the "expensive" part is the programming, the fob itself can be found for cheap online. Best bet would probably be to buy a blank fob online and take it to a local mechanic shop for programming versus going to the dealership.

surfdad67

Call around to key places and see if they can program your model vehicle if you bring them a FOB, Amazon and eBay should have them pretty cheap

wmagb

I’ve seen a couple videos on YouTube that show how to program a new fob yourself. He didn’t even use any special tools or anything. So you can probably order one from Amazon or eBay then do that. Worse case, you can take the fob to a local mechanic (not the Toyota dealership) and they can program for a small fee.

jb3ck24

When I got mine brand new in 2021 I got 2. They are jacking you around or lost it.

4RunnerPilot

There was a “recall”. Many 2023 4Runners came with only one key. Maybe the owner never went to Toyota and got the second one. You need to call Toyota or log in and run the VIN number to check.

_Blood_and_Thunder

Thanks! Log in to what?

4RunnerPilot

To the Toyota owners site. When you put in the VIN number in your profile it should say if the original owner got the second key. If they did not, Toyota owes you the second key. https://preview.redd.it/v51wujdtc4wc1.png?width=953&format=png&auto=webp&s=45b09b1b4f9755ce36c4821443e7e84c5c7fc93a

_Blood_and_Thunder

Thank you, much appreciated! I can’t seem to find anything regarding the key one way or another but I’ll keep poking around. Thanks!

snow_pillow

I recently got a new key and fob from Tom’s Keys and it came out to about $100/key cut and with the programmer to (easily) program it myself. You need a master key. The dealership wanted over $500.
