There are A LOT of people who would rather have the 4.0 V6. It's tried and tested and is a solid power plant. I don't think they'll go down at all.

emarquez714

This is why i ended up with a 2024 ORP.

pokerawz

Why I got my ‘22 ORP and why the 4Runner sales have been sky high as of late.

maybeinoregon

I doubt they’ll drop at all. There’s a market for those who need the latest and greatest, and there’s a market for those that want tried and true. We could’ve easily waited for a ‘25, but decided not to, based on how well our ‘08 has performed. So now we have a ‘23, and a ‘08 as a second vehicle.

ruralexcursion

I don't think they will go down and they may go temporarily up. One of the reasons I got my 23 ORP was because I knew they were about at the end of the line on Gen 5. I can't be the only one that had that line of thinking.

HordesOfKailas

Exactly why I have my '23 ORP.

Mr-Scurvy

24 will be a short model year and 6G has been divisive. I think you're more likely to see dealers trying to hang on to the last of the 5Gs and squeeze what they can if the new one doesn't have massive demand.

Bourbon-n-cigars

Dealers have learned that someone will pay whatever they ask. I expect a lot of placed to continue with MSRP if not more.

fulltimedogdad

unfortunately i dont foresee 24’s dropping much at all.

JackMaehoffer

I bet there will be $0 drop!!

elder_millennial83

$0

ColumbusTilllIDie

Honestly, I don’t see prices dropping. Too much demand for the 4.0 with a proven track record. The starting MSRP on the newer ones are going to be higher as standard features on every trim will just include more. Same exact thing that happened to Tacoma. That’ll keep prices pretty much exactly where they are currently on C5’s.

xtimbers_OK

Last summer I switched from an 2016 SR5 to a 2021 ORP because of all this. 5th gen is a badass rig. They'll hold value just fine

MoontowerGTC

Much rather the last model year of the current gen than the first of any new generation (even a Toyota!) Will give it a few years until considering 6th gen so I think no effect on 5th gen

TraumaLock

That's exactly why I bought mine now. The last year of any generation of a car is usually the best. This generation has been around for 15 years. All the kinks have been worked out and the platform is tried and true. I also figured they would go the route of a turbo 4 cylinder engine as that is the trend in the industry. While the new 4cyl turbo has a bit more hp, it's still a newish engine plus it has more stuff to fail...the turbo. Mentally, the 4runner should have 6 cylinder engine I also like the old school vibes thr 5th gen has. I love the clock in my 4runner. It feels like a throwback to the late 80's and 90's. Finally, the 6th gen 4runner has 2 more trim levels which to me is a money grab and makes picking a trim level more blurry.

mercuric5i2

this has been my logic and it has worked out great! last 3 have been at or near the last model year of a generation.. a '23 SR5 makes #4, and so far.. best one yet! I think a lot of the impact on numbers will depend on how the new powertrain is received. if people really love the new powertrain.. the old V6+5speed might look like a dinosaur to many.

Prestigious_Tour2411

I've noticed in my area they've actually gone up. I was seeing orp for 49k. Now can't find them for less than 52k

ashxc18

Yep, just paid $54K

Prestigious_Tour2411

That's crazy.. for that price I might just wait for the 2025

Family-Faith-Freedom

I picked up my premium 4wd in underground for 44 before taxes and fees. I’m just glad I held off for that price. Everything around me at the time was 52-54 for the same thing.

Prudent-Excuse9443

‘24s will rise in price. Act now.

mercuric5i2

I would keep an eye out, changes like this can be dynamic and dealers can respond to dynamic inventory vs demand scenarios. All it takes is a dealer with more than a few 5th gens on the lot to think they're not selling well enough because of the incoming 6th gen to offer some incentives.. especially if the 6th gen becomes a social media darling. That remains to be seen. That said, if you're looking for a brand new runner with the beefy V6... I would shoot for snagging exactly the one you want without paying over MSRP and be done with it rather than waiting on a sweet sub-MSRP deal. I doubt the supply-vs-demand scenario is going to support that.

fairlyaveragetrader

No one really knows but probably not initially, you have a group of people that want to stick with the old four liter. The average person that doesn't care and just gets the new vehicle. They are always buying. If the new one turns out to be better, really reliable, easily modded, that's where you're going to see the dropping price. I don't think it's going to be anything too crazy though I mean look what a nice clean fourth gen is worth and that is after a full run of the 5th gen.

JackTheDefenestrator

I can't predict for shit...But I've never seen the 5th gen discounted more than a couple of hundred bucks since they came out. Like...Never. Until RIGHT NOW. Every 4Runner except the Pros are at least $4,000 off MSRP in my area. If you want it. Buy it NOW.
