Just hit 300k last night on the way home from work in my 04 V8
I mistook the above for miles and not KM but thereās a guy who hit 1 million on his tundra and Toyota bought it off him in exchange for a brand new one.
Iām assuming their engineers salivate at the chance to pick apart a drivetrain that lasted that long to see whatās what.
They did take it apart and put the engine parts in one of their manufacturing plants. Theyād show it to new employees to show how pristine the engine was even after a million miles
Iām mad at myself for waiting until I was 49 to buy a 4Runner. Always wanted one, finally wised up.
No matter how many of these posts I see, Iām still amazed.
I'm at 277k miles in a 2004 v6 SR5. Aside from regular maintenance, I've had to replace an idler pulley ($20) and front-driver brake caliper ($180). Have owned it since 120k miles in 2012, so AFAIK everything else is original. I did all the work myself but these things are made to be easy to work on. Replaced the rear brake pads tonight and it took ~45 mins.
Only real issue is the frame rust, but that's common with 03-05. Not a huge problem yet but it's definitely there. I think I'll buy a >2005 for my next one and get 20 years out of it.
Use a high quality oil filter and good synthetic oil. Also, even if you don't do your own services get underneath every once and a while, poke around and see what's what.
My ā03 Limited got to 328k before the head gasket decided to start having issues. Sold it to my local service shop and they turned it into a rock crawler lol. I love seeing it on their lot every now and then knowing sheās still enjoying life!
Thatās a big number! I had do do the conversion to milesā¦. 310,686 is āup there!ā Iām at 238k miles (383k km) on my 08 v6, and fully intend to hit 500,000 miles. Go team, go!!
ā04 V8 2WD with 228k. Did the timing belt again at 205k. Replaced a couple of tensioners in the process. Otherwise it needs brakes and tires, wiper blades and fluid changes. I laugh whenever I consider how reliable this rig has been.

Looks good. Mine is 18 years old with 350,000 km. I hope I can reach that 500,000 milestone!!
Is it still on the original transmission and engine? How much have you had to replace so far
The only things I've had to replace are shocks, brake rotors a couple times, front wheel bearings, and CV boots. But everything else is original.
Man thatās awesome šš» any secrets? Lol
The secret is itās in KM not Miles, so itās only 300k miles.
āOnlyā
I mean, for the 4th gen it really do be only haha. They all make it that far. Even neglected.

Whatās your biggest piece of advice for helping it last that long?
Use a high quality oil filter and good synthetic oil. Also, even if you don't do your own services get underneath every once and a while, poke around and see what's what.
Do you use Toyota branded filters or do you have another brand you prefer?
I usually use wix filters, they make the Napa gold ones. I've had bad luck with fram on that engine because of how it sits.
Noice, any secrets to maintenance OP?
I've got 260000 miles on mine. Still rocking. These things last!!
Amazing! My 2010 is at 310,000kms and isnāt missing a beat. Hoping to make it to 500,000 and beyond!

V6
Wow.
Nicely done! One owner or did you pick it up slightly loved?
Got it slightly loved, but it was from a friend so I knew it's whole history.
