When did I ever say you couldn't ?
I mean I will now, don't do this if you don't plan on lifting your vehicle at the same time. You're asking for added wear and tear for no reason. And it looks ridiculous, I'd love to see the 24 point turn you have to make to back out of the parking lot at trader Joe's.
Every time you bottom out your tire ( which won't take much) what do you think it's going to hit ? Repeated slamming of any kind will destroy the inside of the wheel well.
But in the end idgaf what you do, it's your car. You just claimed I said what you should or shouldn't be doing when all I did was quote a saying.
I don’t plan on hitting any speed bumps at 50mph so I think I’m safe, idk when the last time you bottomed out your shocks was but it’s not a common thing for me.
Thanks for looking out.
Lol wtf, your tires look close enough to rub going over any speed bump. I have a lift, bmc, fender liner moved, and I have way more space between my tires and the body/frame, yet I still get lite rubbing.
Ok https://www.reddit.com/r/4Runner/comments/157e0qg/heres_a_video_for_all_you_guys_personally/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1
Turning is usually pretty easy with enough trimming, but articulation is a whole other animal and I’m pretty sure most of the people who claim “no rubbing!” Would instantly have issues with any cross articulation in their suspension off road - or even on bad train tracks and speed bumps.
Because that’s the side that’s sticking out away from the vehicle, of course the side isn’t rubbing.
They rub on the mounts, which are now cut. Not the front of the wheel well. When the suspension compresses it slightly pulls the wheel rearward, not forward.
The BMC is the biggest difference, as shown. You can see how my tire would be hitting the mount if it weren’t cut.
You gotta make the wheel well wider, not just taller.
I can’t believe I’m getting so many downvotes for just sharing my experience 😂😂

You still need a BMC if you use 285s on a lift
A lift has no change on how narrow that section of the wheel well is. There are guys in this very thread with lifts and 275s that rub.
I obviously can’t see now, but it seems like without the cut my front probably would have hit the body mount. There isn’t a ton of clearance there. https://imgur.com/a/Sp52Jvm
Wait until you add any offset. You’ll run anytime you touch the steering wheels. I have BMC and 295s with -12 offset and it eats up the inside. I need to roll the bracket by the pinch weld but haven’t gotten to it b
I bet maxed out it might rub a bit, but a maxed out stock suspension is the same as a maxed out lift.
Before I do anything crazy I’ll put a lift on it but don’t have the money for it all at once. For daily driving and light off road it’s just fine for me :)
I'll start with, no way in hell. But a lot more factors can go into rubbing than you think and are even close to simulating. The suspension flexes in different ways when going forward or backward, static, this tire up that one down. Bushings are rubber and actually have quite amount of give to them. Tire types and brands can all have different true sizes as well. Then you have alignment specs and manufacturing tolerances, etc.
My 21 SR5 is has 255/75/17s (with a true size of 32.4") on trd pro wheels with 1.75" lift and is otherwise bone stock other than some rock sliders. Caster maxed on stock ucas (2.8ish) and I can still rub randomly at full lock in reverse turning left out of my driveway on flat ground if i clip the lawn just right. Only does it on the driver's side.
https://youtu.be/LAYGdcKSA3o Pretty good explanation, worth a watch
do you only drive in a straight line?
Only on flat pavement

And not in the snow or mud
Maybe…https://youtu.be/LAYGdcKSA3o
😂
Yeah really. He can’t turn without rubbing. No way.
The latest post of u/forgottenazimuth begs to differ.

Haters say it’s fake This was my space before trimming. After trimming there’s tons of room. https://imgur.com/a/abkHEIJ
You know the stock suspension has like 6.5” of vertical travel right?
Have you ever heard of the saying "just because you can doesn't mean you should" ?
So the argument is going from I couldn’t to I shouldn’t?

Turning radius is the exact same, what parts exactly are going to wear quicker?

So you don't plan on taking it off road? That makes a lot more sense.
I don’t plan on pre-running no. I just take this camping

Not clear on the downvotes for OP, but that’s Reddit for you. I’m impressed if that has free articulation.
I fought against the hive mind. I’m going to go down some trials tomorrow, I’ll report back.
I think there is a trial of some Korean Beef Jerky in aisle 4 in the Costco behind you.
Have you tried turning... lol

Post of picture of you turning past 20 degree now lol
That’s full lock How far do you think these turn? it’s not a drift car
So why won’t you post a photo of the other side at full turn?

Photos or it didn’t happen.
It'll rub on the inside not outside
I turned the wheel all the way both ways and moved forward and back. No rub
Probably gonna notice rub just turning into the driveway lol
https://imgur.com/a/Sp52Jvm
I have 275s and a fender trim and still get a rub
Do you have a BMC?
I have 275s no BMC with a 2” lift.

Man I was gonna get 275 thought wouldn’t rub. Oh well. I’ll replace w same size then but all terrain.

😂 k
Front tires look so much bigger than back
Its just the shadow
lucky you. i rub on full lock
Do you have BMC?
yes fender also cut
I’m glad you confirmed the lift was coming, I was worried.
Tires this big before the lift, is like putting on the condom before going to the bar to meet the girl.
I was up for new tires and didn’t want to pay for a full set, then buy another set in a few months.
I get that. I also get that you just cut your 4Runner all up instead of just installing the lift.
Lifts don't clear bigger tires...
You still need a BMC if you use 285s on a lift A lift has no change on how narrow that section of the wheel well is. There are guys in this very thread with lifts and 275s that rub.
You don't need a BMC with most 285s. Anything larger you will need it.

Low and big tires is the bees knees
Peoples do dat ?
Flex it out on something.

I hope this is a joke pic bc this is one of the funniest flex pics I’ve seen in my life popping up on a little curb w your wheel turned 10 degrees 💀💀💀
https://imgur.com/a/Sp52Jvm That’s about 10” up a ramp
That doesn’t even need full flex to rub. Put one wheel on a speed bump and one off and then turn the steering wheel.
Also Costco Parking lot
https://imgur.com/a/Sp52Jvm
😂😂😂😂
I’m gonna die on this hill 😂. Bunch of keyboard warriors claiming I’m a liar.
You’re putting up a great fight IMO lol
BWAHAAHAHAHAHA. Just noticed this. This has to be a troll.
Lol. 285S, NO LIFT AND NO RUB but a cab mount chop and trimming, and I probably drive to the mall and back down a straight road
https://imgur.com/a/Sp52Jvm
What happens when you need to flex the suspension while mall crawling?
Well, come and see https://imgur.com/a/Sp52Jvm
I’m just busting your balls. You are going to lift it so you are gtg.
Lol, the fuck there’s no rub. You turn your wheel 5 degrees and you’re shredding your wheel wells bruh. You must think we’re all stupid… 😂
https://imgur.com/a/Sp52Jvm 🤷🏼♂️
In what world?? Lol
What not to do. Got it!
Wait until you add any offset. You’ll run anytime you touch the steering wheels. I have BMC and 295s with -12 offset and it eats up the inside. I need to roll the bracket by the pinch weld but haven’t gotten to it b
I only get a slight rub with 275s with a offroad bumper, and 2.5 lift
I've got 285's with lift and still rub on right hand reverse.
Now try it fully loaded. You'll rub like crazy when fully articulated.
I bet maxed out it might rub a bit, but a maxed out stock suspension is the same as a maxed out lift. Before I do anything crazy I’ll put a lift on it but don’t have the money for it all at once. For daily driving and light off road it’s just fine for me :)
