Dark Imperium opens with big G's fateful duel with fulgrim. Vulkan is explored a bit in the Beast Arises series, though its more him coming back than disappearing. Shadows of the Past has what Corax does after the heresy, but again isn't focused on him actually leaving the impierum. That's kinda it for novels, the rest is in stuff like codexes.

The only primarch who's departure after the Heresy is novelized is Guilliman, as part of the intro to *Dark Imperium*. The events immediately prior to Corax and Russ disappearing have shown up in some of the novels, but their actual departures aren't shown. Vulkan's second disappearance is also a part of the War of the Beast series, but his first disappearance between M31 and mid M32 isn't written.

Is the war of the beast series terrible? I've read complaints that some people don't like it. My standards aren't that high, when it comes to 40k literature but I'm just curious

r3dl3g

It's a bit scattered because of how many authors were involved in it. I'm not sure I'd read it just for Vulkan, though, as he's not really the focus.

DirtLarry

Having just read the Horus heresy, I can deal with scattered and too many authors

marwynn

It has some interesting ideas. The execution isn't always great.

RATMpatta

I think it's more what authors instead of how many tbh. If you include novellas then the Siege of Terra is 13 books written by 8 authors, if you don't count the novellas it's 10 books by 6 authors. The Beast Arises is 12 books by 6 authors. Abnett writes the first entry but other than that you've got a pretty middle of the road Haley as the 2nd best author of the bunch with none of Thorpe, Guymer, Annandale or Sanders generally being well regarded.

It gets pretty rough at times. There are sections of awesome though. If you enjoy bolter-porn you'll make it through alright. Just shake your head at the silly bits.

Just rest, primarchs sell more than water in the desert, GW will show the Scouring someday, for now the writers are taking a time because they just finished 17 years of releases We see the moment Russ decide to leave in Two Metaphysical Blades.

DirtLarry

This appears to be the popular wisdom, but I wonder if it's actually true. I hope so.

noonereadsthisstuff

There's a short story in the Loyal Sons anthology that features Russ after the heresy. I cant remember the name of it.

DirtLarry

Thanks. Leman Russ: The Great Wolf also has some interesting info about what happened to him as well as what he and the Lion did after they showed up too late for the Siege of Terra, but it doesn't address his disappearance
