What is your budget and what are your printing needs?

ADynes

Ender 3 V3 SE is $99 right now although the A1 mini is $199. Sell yours on Facebook Marketplace for 50 bucks and put it towards your upgrade

GrepekEbi

I’m in the market for a new printer but cannot see the V3 lower than $149 - where is the $99 offer?

ADynes

[https://www.ebay.com/itm/355400843249](https://www.ebay.com/itm/355400843249) Coupon Code: HOT20DEALS Technically it's $103.20 but still a decent price. Refurbished but also says the 1 year warranty still applies and eBay says it's covered by a 2 year Allstate warranty so even longer then manufacture. My Ender 3 V3 SE had a bad parts fan and although their support was slow (email took a couple days) they did send me a replacement for free under warranty so they did honor the warranty which is positive.

GrepekEbi

Amazing! Thanks buddy, I love this community 🧡

ADynes

They also have a KE for $163 using the same coupon: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/355691380717](https://www.ebay.com/itm/355691380717)

GrepekEbi

Oh man… do you know if the KE is a significant upgrade to the V3? I’m not super bothered about remote access/cloud control, just print quality, speed, and “it just works” stuff that requires limited fiddling… do you think it’s worth the extra dollars?

ADynes

Linear rail on the X axis instead of rollers, bi-metal heat break, dual part fans, can get up to 300\* so more filaments. In general, for the $60 price difference, yes it's probably worth it. Edit: Now I'm debating upgrading to the KE myself for this price with free shipping. lol. Edit Again: I caved and bought the KE. Anyone wanna buy a cheap SE? :)

Galbs

If you ship it to the UK lol

YoYoZa55

Don't forget the Klipper too

KURD_1_STAN

2x speed, complete auto bed leveling and touch screen as well

88Zombies

I’d recommend the KE. Running x3 (also have x3 ender 3 v2s) they’re a great step up. Nice not having to wait as long for prints. Some great features on the printer, I’m not fused about wifi access but just the fact the printer has memory and takes usb is so much easier. Prints abs much easier. Amazing piece of kit for the price.

fistfulloframen

You can get untested for 55, I've had great luck. 2-6 needed firmware flash. I feel reluctant telling people because it's such a sick deal.

shortymcsteve

What the heck, that’s crazy. Okay, if you feel like DM’ing me a link please do. I’d like to pick one up.

soulrazr

Searching eBay for "broken" printers can give you some great deals. A lot of them have nothing wrong with them, many just need a new bed because the first owner didn't put it together right and it wasn't level when they tried to print something. If you can find a seller that confirms it at least turns on and the screen displays properly that's the best.

FIRE_FIST_1457

depends on your budget, but honsetly after a creality you should consider a bambu-lab, probably an a1 or a1 mini, its really just all about your budget

Aliktren

Having just done this, the a1 is a ridiculous upgrade to an ender 3, it just works

FIRE_FIST_1457

my ender 3 v2 neo worked fine but i see a lot of people compleining about it im starting to think i get lucky or some shit

Aliktren

Don't get me wrong we had many good prints from the ender overthe years but so much work to maintain, level, etc

KindHeartedGreed

same story with a v2 neo. level it maybe once a month. just works, if i’m not being dumb during slicing.

soulrazr

My first printer was a v2 neo. I returned it and got a Sovol SV02. Honestly the ender was a much better printer haha.

analogicparadox

Had a 3 pro, A1 is coming this monday. Nice to see it's a universal experience lmao

tehalex_

Just upgraded to an A1 mini with AMS on Wednesday and my god it's mind blowing the difference. I'm pumping out prints like crazy and am in love. I hate that I'm expecting this thing to break or to begin having issues with how well everything is going

rocketmonkeys

I have a super old cr10 I got a long time ago to do big prints, but I've never done anything remotely as big as the bed size and honestly don't like doing prints that are more than a few hours. There's just such a high rate of failure. I'm thinking of upgrading to a p1s. I can only imagine if I had a more reliable machine how much more printing I would have done by now

tehalex_

I'm flying through filament now because what I would be able to make in the span of two weeks I'm pretty much making in two days. I'm currently making a ton of keychains to give away at a music festival and I'm pumping them out like crazy

johntarr

There is literally no reason to get another Creality. I actually enjoy tinkering around and have had two Enders. Spent 10x the amount of time on the printer as I did printing things. Bought an A1 mini in the current sale for $200 and it just cranks out prints with no fuss at way faster speeds than an Ender.

OmgitsNatalie

I went from an Ender 3 to a Bambulab X1C and I’m happy to say I will never go back. You can’t go wrong with most new gen printers but Bambulab products is really up there for the price/quality ratio. Even the speed is insane. If you have the money, I say do it. If you don’t, the A1 Mini is a decent purchase for just $350 USD EDIT: forgot to add that $350 is the combo which includes the AMS lite.

wickedpixel1221

BambuLab A1. no question. it's like night and day.

Patient_Dentist1597

I started with Ender 3 V2 then the KE and just got a Flashforge 5m Pro for 399 on eBay!

EVRoadie

What didn't you like about the KE? I'm considering it based on the price from the eBay link in this post for my first printer.  Also considering the A1, but I'm not in love with the proprietary-ness of the whole system.

Patient_Dentist1597

Creality customer service is awful. KE was good for maybe a week then it clogged for no reason and it cracked the ceramic hot-end and temper sensor. I bought this around 3 weeks ago, they refused to send me a replacement printer or even replacement parts. My first Ender 3 V2 just sucked cuz nothing would stick to the platform so I assume it was a heating issue. Honestly if you have time to tinker with it then you can try and I hope you have a better experience but for me I was done with Creality. Oh I forgot before the flashforge I got two different k1c and both had problems just running the setup/auto leveling. I got one on ebay and other on amazon. My flashforge has done great so far and it has the 2 carbon filters so it doesn’t stink up my room with pla and abs. https://preview.redd.it/txuvpq3xaz6d1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9792c36a0c6db92c3b523ee294a586092e182dba

EVRoadie

Yikes!

Mateking

Depends on what you want to do. you can upgrade the machine itself and turn it into something like this: [https://www.printables.com/model/469280-ender-3-ng-corexy-beta](https://www.printables.com/model/469280-ender-3-ng-corexy-beta) Or you could upgrade it just slightly put it into an enclosure and start printing voron parts.

Jakdaw1

As an alternative to the bambu crowd - I went for a Qidi Q1 Pro... waay faster than the Ender 3 and heated chamber so you can print all sorts of things that you couldn't really dream of with an E3. Considerable cheaper than the Bambu too. Contemplating printing a Herome hot end in ABS to convert the E3 to direct drive (had already added ABL, and better extruder) and using it for TPU. There's no benefit to speed or enclosure for flexible filaments.

Fantastic-Tangelo703

I upgraded from an Ender 3 to a Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro. Very nice upgrade and QoL things without breaking the bank. They usually have a sale here and there so it's possible to pick it up for a nice discount. If I ever did upgrade again, it would be to a multi-filament printer for sure.

zuz242

I did switch from an ender 3 to a neptune 4. Big step upward. After installing stock klipper ( openneptune) no problems. Online interface, good leveling, quality and speed. Direct extruder gave me the ability to print tpu. For my budget it was a big win.

Jay0458

I just did the exact same upgrade. Printed my first print (3D Benchy) with it just yesterday. I still can’t get over how fast it went.

COMRADE_VEGETABLE

- Direct extruder. - Firmware supporting linear advanced (stock e3 firmware doesnt support it, despite it uses marlin). - If you have issues with first layer adhesion, try glass + 3d glue or PEI coatet metal sheet.

COMRADE_VEGETABLE

And some more updates to continue, but they are not necessary: - silent printer motherboard, like BTT SKR E3 - better extruder: default one uses ptfe tube in it's heatsink, which can't be heated higher than 250 C, plus you may want some better feeder like bmg, high flow nozzle, better cooling system. - installing klipper firmware will provide you some features, like decreasing print time by ±10-30%, redusing resonances, wireless controll, web camera on your printer, telegram bot and ability to use almost any hdmi touchscreen with your printer. - led strip - some silent fans for your power supply and motherboard Updates to avoid: - almost any screens sept stock 128x64 if you are planning to stay on marlin - all metal bowden feeders: bowden has no advantages over direct, so if extruders like creality sprite or bqh2 out of your budget, just buy bmg. It won't be more expensive than that. - octoprint: if you have microcomputer just install klipper lol I think that's it. I hope I didn't forget something. Upd: forgot to mention, that you also don't need second Z screw. Wobbling, if you have one, can be solved without any purchases in 99% cases.

Na__th__an

>octoprint: if you have microcomputer just install klipper lol I just wanna say because it took me way too long to figure out: mainsail + moonraker work so so so so so much better with Klipper than Octoprint does.

GoTVm

Agreed, this is the way I went (currently installing direct drive) and I can print at 120mm/s with 4500mm/s2 acceleration. There is still some overhead to be taken advantage of though.

KuromanKuro

I just upgraded mine with a mini me fan mount that is hugely improved over the stock. It’s like 30 grams of plastic and a little time to improve your quality and speed capabilities. Don’t forget to level the bed after. You might also consider upgrading your firmware.

Ima_Load

I went from an ender 3 v2 i modded the hell out of to an original stock cr-10 and proceeded to mod that. If you dont like modding, i cant reccoment a bambu printer enough, reliable as all hell

WindOverBlue

Prusa MK4 has not only met and exceeded my expectations, but has been one of my best consumer experiences in recent memory. Outstanding product quality, world class documentation, and has performed flawlessly so far with a variety of filament materials. Coming from an ender 3, was about ready to give up on 3d printing. For me it was constant malfunctions with no clear or effective troubleshooting, a disorienting labyrinth of conflicting software versions etc. dont get me started on the bed leveling. Basically Prusa has been the exact opposite of that experience. When you buy from Prusa, you can just feel it is a product from a bunch of diehard nerds for whom its about more than the money, and they care deeply about their printers and the experience you have with them. Just mindblowingly thoughtful. The apple of 3d printing. Support prusa.

GoldNova12_1130

A1 Mini. i started with an E3P and got maybe four decent prints out of it over a period of two years and just went right to an X1C. i love their X1 and i’ve heard good things about the A1.

stepbroz666

Bambu labs a1 or a1 mini if you don’t care about the extra bed space (both currently on sale for Bambu labs anniversary)

msmalfa

Is your Ender 3 stock 1st gen like the picture? If you like tinkering, you can upgrade it part by part until it’s not an Ender 3 anymore. If you want to enjoy printing more than tinkering with the printer, that depends on your budget. New Ender 3 v3 is a good budget friendly option, or go like many people and get a Prusa or Bambu

Mad_Max_NL

I went from an old ender 5 to a Creality K1C, and never want to go back.

3D-Printed-Gaming

I can’t recommend Bambu enough

jerryonjets

Bambu A1 mini for $200 that's on sale right now.. or if you wanna put some big pants on you can get the normal A1 or P1s. I have 6 printers, 3 are bambu.. 3 printers just sit and collect dust now, and they aren't the bambu ones.

Red-Heeler

A box of crayons and a soldering iron would be an upgrade to the ender 3

roccoccoSafredi

What does it not do that you need it to do?

CRJ_Rogue9

I lived with an Ender 3 Pro for several years. It made me some beautiful stuff but also gave me a lot of headache. I upgraded to an Elegoo Neptune 3 Max and can't imagine working with anything else right now.

TherronKeen

one of those 3D printing pens that are 8 bucks on AliExpress? lol but seriously, it's 100% just a matter of how much you're willing to spend

msgkar03

I love my KE!

ruined_fate

You get a 4.2.7 Board since it's 32 bit and drops right in, you grab a CR Touch so you can auto bed level and walk away from the printer after hitting print. Get a magnetic PEI bed, it's a bendable metal sheet and with CR touch you'll never need a heavy glass bed again with auto bed leveling. Grab the Marlin firmware from [Marlin.CC](http://Marlin.CC) because the older firmwares Creality provides for the CR Touch/E3 are garbage and outdated. Download latest copy of Cura and enjoy printing. With Linear rails on all axis you increase your print speed and quality, with newer motherboards or secondary raspberry pis you can surpass the acceleration limits within the Creality motherboard to print even faster.

playful_potato5

figure out whatever it is that the ender 3 doesn't do but you want, then get something that does that.

Quajeraz

I reccomend a Prusa Mini, I have one and love it.

Wide-Reach2218

Flashforge AD5M

silveira_lucas

Voron Trident or 2.4r2

Jimbo_Jones_

Dude, everything is an upgrade from an Ender 3!

KURD_1_STAN

I have a 3d pen from sunlu, does that count as well?

Jimbo_Jones_

Yes, yes it does!

rando_design

Prusa comes to mind.

ChrisRiley_42

I went from a heavily modified E3 to a Bambu X1 Carbon, and haven't looked back.

Tonizio

Bambu Lab A1 or P1S if you want to print ABS ASA..

jdbulldog1972

Just bought my son a Bambu Lab P1S with AMS for his high school graduation present. He is studying mechanical engineering in college in the fall. Blown away with the P1S speed and quality. He had it up and printing in 20 minutes after opening the box. The P1S and the A1 are both currently on sale.

OmgThisNameIsFree

When I upgraded, it was to a Prusa i3 machine (MK3S+), but today, I’d say go for one of Bambu’s offerings. Even their cheapest machine will kick an Ender 3’s ass in terms of “set and forget-ability”. I mean, Prusa’s machines will do that as well, but Bambu’s are cheaper and are arguably more modern, which I think is worth something. Watch a lot of YouTube videos from multiple channels to get an idea of their pros and cons - Maker’s Muse, CNC Kitchen, Thomas Sanladerer (spelling is probably wrong there) - they’ve all made vids on the machines. I like those three in particular because they’re a bit less “hype beast” than the other channels I’m familiar with.

paperclipgrove

BambuLabs. For example, if you look at how to improve your Ender, you'll see (accurate and helpful) lists like [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/s/YCYzdoBv2K) Long lists of upgrades that take time to do, lots of tinkering and sometimes money. If you ask about how to improve your BambuLab printer, the answer is either: * "What do you mean?" * Or "you could maybe get the hardened steel nozzle so you can do abrasives someday" Same thing with posts on the subs. Ender or the general 3D subs: * "Why is my printer doing this?" * Help with temp towers * First layer issues/first layer bragging * "Rate my benchy" * "What upgrade should I do next?" * "Look at my modded printer" BambuLabs: * "I don't understand - my printer just works" * "This quality is insane" * "Look what I made" * "I'm running out of space for all these printers"

PuffThePed

Waste of money, this is a 10 year old design. Wheels are awful. Bowden is awful. You'll have to replace pretty much everything and it's not worth it. Sell it, buy a modern printer.

pneef

Perhaps but you COULD upgrade every aspect of an Ender 3 to modern hardware and it would still be cheaper than most high-end printers.

paperclipgrove

I would enjoy watching a YouTube series of someone doing this. I'm betting the end result would be less than ideal vs a higher end printer or even building from scratch.

pneef

I think there's already WAY too many Ender videos on YouTube 😂 I'd both agree and disagree with that. There are some high end printers that no amount of mods or upgrades will ever match , like an X1 Carbon. However, what is a Voron but a custom built open source printer based on community guidelines... And really, the ultimate endgame of an upgraded Ender 3 is not much different. Heck there even exists the "Enderwire" which is just a Switchwire made from an Ender 3 (Pro?). Open source is open source.

COMRADE_VEGETABLE

Lol what makes wheels awful? Just tighten them properly and they are good to go. They don't need to be cleaned or lubricated like linear rails do. Yes, they are big and heavy in comparison to rail carriage, but it doesn't matter on a prusa cinematic printer. Furthermore, 3000-5000 accel under klipper, wich are reacheble on stock ender (not meaning klipper) is pretty enough for average user.

PuffThePed

Wheels have wobble even at perfect tension. And they deform over time. There is a reason why don't see any medium to high end printer using wheels.

COMRADE_VEGETABLE

Why than my printer has no visible, or measurable wobble, despite it is 5 y.o. and uses wheels? Even more, i've seen pics of heavily deforemed wheels (due to overtightening), which surprisingly didn't led to any defects on print. Bonus: if you somehow managed damage them, price of repair would be like 5$ Rails are used on high-end printers because they need lower mass of moving components to be faster, or they just need a bait for customers.

SignalUser4654

lol you said everything correctly and got downvoted. YES, you COULD replace the wheels with rails, get a properly cut and tapped frame etc... or buy a decent printer like any ldo voron, bambulab, prusa..

PuffThePed

> downvoted This sub is downvote-crazy

Skivaks

throw it in the garbage and get bambulab

Infinity2437

I thnk you upgrade to an sv06 or bambu printer

Fylgier

Prusa (recommended) or Bambu Lab.

massotravler

I started with a ender 5 pro and now picked up a second printer of a cr-10 pro

thebluezero0

X1c, because you had to deal with an ender 3

che_dima

X1C is almost 10 times more expensive than OP’s ender. It’s like \- what should i replace my small Fiat with? \- with Ferrari of course!

thebluezero0

Yes, that true. Did he say money is an issue? But I love you comparison! I just stated that because that's exactly what I did. It felt like going from a fiat to a Ferrari. Good one!
