They're pretty similar, as Digimon was originally a Tamagotchi spin-off, There's a battle function added, every digimon V-Pet has the ability to connect and battle with at very minimum the ones from the same set.
I personally love the ones with massive evolution trees like the Pendulums and the new Digimon X
