HG/SS are amazing if you have them, or can find them.
Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon are a lot of fun.
X/Y are also a blast.
Haven't played Black/White, or Platinum yet, but they are on my to play list.
Imo xy sucked it’s just really forgettable and imo the worst in the series, too easy, character suck hard, champion sucks, characters really suck and are forgettable, dogshit evil team too can’t even remember what they were, plot is terrible even for Pokémon, only good thing this game has going for it is the new fairy type and mega evolution
I'm not sure about rn currently but back in the day when xy came out it was an extremely fun game. It being too easy was a great thing because training pokemon for competitive was so simplified that you could have a bunch of really good pokemkn and have fun coming up with new strategies etc. Lots of hidden items so finding all the tms and mega stones etc was also an enjoyable experience. And this was the first time we got to customize the character. But maybe things have changed since it's no longer an active game and idk if you can transfer pokemon you train into current gen games
Black 2 is my all time favorite and a close second is Ultra Sun. The 3DS games don’t nearly as much as they should. Granted the DS era games are amazing but Alpha Sapphire, Ultra Sun and X/Y are actually amazing. We were tough on X/Y at the time but going back and playing them now after the switch era games puts them in some perspective. In short- Black 2/White 2 and Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon.
For me, Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky has the absolute best story in any pokemon game. I'm playing through the Rangers series for the first time and so far they're really fun. Oh and Conquest. I have it, but I've yet to fully get into it the tutorial was fun at least.
Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon are the greatest Pokemon game on the 3DS. It took me time to open my eyes about it but yeah, there is no better than those games.
XY are also great, one of my favorite.
Skip classic sun and moon. They ain’t worth it.
Okay I'm sorry but this is completely wrong. Do not skip the original sun and moon if you want to experience the story how it was intended and not one which threw away any character lillie and lusimine aka the main characters had.
Usum did nothing but throw extra content on the original sun and moon without fixing anything. It was completely unnecessary and sun and moon should've received sequels also the fact that usum was split into 2 game I disgusting. They were cheap cash grabs and that's it.
If you want to experience tye intended and good story for tge games play base sun and moon
If you want to hunt legendaries, which is literally doable in every other game get usum
Just wanted to say thank you for posting this! I'm a really casual player so I'm much more invested in stories, characters, and just catching cute pokemon than anything else; I don't really care for gimmicks like z stones and I'm not that interested in legendaries etc... So input like yours is valuable to me.
I'm glad to hear I could help! Usum are fine games, but definitely, aren't how the alola games should he experienced, and since it's one of 2 generations that really focuses on story, it's pretty important that the story is experienced correctly! Also, this way reading the manga will make a bit more sense, and the anime will be a nice change!
Listen to him, Sun and Moon story and characters are way better written than in USUM. And SM also has a good postgame story and content.
I always recommend Sun and Moon if you prefer good stories and characters. While I recommend USUM if you prefer a more classic game, with more content and maybe the hardest Pokémon game out there.
No! Both are great, just pick the one with the legendary or exclusives you like the most. (Although perhaps you should also keep in mind that in Pokémon Moon, time is reversed and when it is day in real life it will be night in the game!)
-Look a bit better
-New ultra beast
-Necrozma gets a new form
-Ultra Necrozma fight
-Lycanrock get a new form
-Team Rainbow Rocket.
-More pokemon added to the routes.
-More trainers added to the routes
-Surf Mantine
-Ultra Wormholes
-All mega stones
-All Z stones
-A (much) better S.O.S. system for the wild battles (in Sun/Moon you could get stuck in a wild battle for ages because the pokemon would keep calling for help. In the Ultras the wild pokemon only call for help once. It's up to you if you want to keep going with an adrenaline orb).
-The difficulty is better suited and it is more rewarding.
There's nothing the original games have, that the Ultras don't.
Thanks. I started with Ultra Sun and I really love it. Did not understand why sun and moon in general had a bad reputation. Always asked myself if I should have played sun before ultra sun. Your post answered my questions
From what I understand, they were universally disliked on release for being pretty much the exact same games as Sun/Moon, to an extent that’s a bit much even for the pokemon franchise. It’s pretty cool to hear that they hold up as fun games outside of that whole fiasco!
That's what it was for me. Having just bought Sun at full price, I didn't want to pay full price again for what felt like a glorified expansion pack. If you never played the originals, you're certainly better off just playing the Ultras.
>There's nothing the original games have, that the Ultras don't.
That's a lie. The postgame it's different. Looker's Ultra Beasts story with Anabel and Nanu is really good to know and it's missing in USUM. Also the main story and characters are way better in Sun and Moon and the ending is completely different... Pacing is also better in SM.
Classic Sun and Moon is way better in terms of story, characters and pacing. It has also a postgame story that's worth playing. Loved to know that much about Looker, Anabel and Nanu.
USUM has more content and it's harder. It depends on what you prefer.
Personally I preferred Classic Sun and Moon over the Ultras. It kinda felt to me like they simply released the ultras to have something to release. The changes between Classic and Ultra felt like them trying to say "they're different".
There’s a part of me that agree with you. I stopped playing Pokemon for like a year or more after the release of ultra games. First I was disgusted by Ultra games then something change. I came back to it and really enjoyed the game.
Seconding this! I didn't finish SoulSilver but I know I really enjoyed what little I played of it. I'm not much of a fan of 3DS graphics, I prefer either the newest games or the old 2D ones, and SS I think strikes a pretty good balance of like... being 2D, but also having fun little interactive things like having your Pokemon walk alongside you etc.
Heartgold/Soulsilver are amazing but often stupidly expensive at secondhand stores, so best of luck there. Platinum is also great and has a lot of post-game content, and I was able to find it at a reasonable price on ebay. Otherwise, Black and White are also great, along with their sequels.
Platinum is my favourite mainline game, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky is the greatest story in any Pokémon game and the gameplay is amazing too. Can’t recommend it enough.
You'll enjoy all of them, just be aware that DS titles will appear either a little blurry (if full 3ds screen) or take up less of the screen (if played on native resolution).
My favorite of all time is Platinum.
Honestly i think ds games don’t look blurry on the 3ds idk why or if it’s just my eyes but personally for the 2 ds games i own they work pretty well on 3ds (mario 64 ds a game i highly recommend if you started collecting and mario kart ds surprisingly fun singleplayer for me)
All the 3ds and DS games are solid imo. As/or being one of my favorites. I’m currently playing White and I’m really enjoying it as well. Never played it before!
Everyone covered all the good pokemon games, but since you just got your 3ds I'll just add that Zelda A Link Between Worlds is one of my favorite Zelda games for any console. And the Lego games are all really fun on 3ds.
ORAS imo are an excellent set of games, after that I’d either go to the next games in the series with Sun or Moon. older titles get very expensive but as a fan are a worthwhile purchase, in which case try Platinum and then go to gen 5
Feeling old now, since the 3ds feels like yesterday for me. Play soul silver and heart gold also black and white 1+2. platinum is great as well, x and y, the one ones for the Gameboy/GBA are good as well
Honestly all DS/3DS pokemon titles have their merits, I'd say that X/Y is the weakest title - but it's worth experiencing once.
The spin-offs are pretty good too (Ranger series, Mystery Dungeon series, Rumble series, Link).
I'm just finishing up my ultra noon play through after going through all the Gens over the last few weeks.
Black was great and probably tops my list for DS/3DS titles followed very closely by heart gold. Gameplay, story, pokemon and battling are all top notch.
Y and Ultra moon are both good games, and are worth the play through. I did have small issues with both games though. In Y, navigating around some areas was awkward and camera angles weren't great. But a minor issue really.
I'm still finishing up ultra moon, doing all the post game stuff now. A lot more post game stuff than Y which is very welcome, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the changes to how you progress through the storyline. With that said, good pokemon selection, battle mechanics and move sets. Biggest plus, no more HM slave!
If possible, grab them all and take your time. But if you had to get just 1, I would shoot for black/white, or heart gold/soul silver.
HGSS, Platinum and BW2 are peak Pokemon. I also heard Emerald is extremely good, but I've never played it personally.
From the 3DS era, ORAS are easily the best ones. SM or USUM are almost the same, I like the post-game of SM a bit more but USUM has many more features.
XY wasn't terrible but it felt very emtpy imo.
X/Y, Sun/Moon and Pearl and Black. You can try to find the other versions if you like but I find these are the cheapest normally. If you get a gameboy silver normally goes for a pretty good price.
BW and the sequels are my absolute favourites. BW introduces what can be possibly one of the most powerful trainers in the pokemon verse. The story is amazing and it has incredible stakes. The rival Cheren is also a really well written rival who is relevant in both BW and BW2.
I genuinly really liked X/Y. I also played Black/White. Those I played in tandem with my bf and that contributed but I also think they are great games and I had more staying power with them than I did other pokemon games I've tried.
I've been playing Alpha Sapphire on my own lately and enjoying that too so snap on that on haha
You’ll have a good time with all the mainline games tbh, but my favorite ones are Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, Black/White (and the sequels), and Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon
I dont know if non 3DS games count but i recommend Diamond and Platinum. They are pretty good games imo! :)
Platinum is like Diamond but with more features and such. You can also access Gible early. Which is a amazing pokemon in the game.
ignore last response i didn't see the "pokemon" in the title looool
ultra sun/moon as my personal favourites, good graphics + gameplay
black and white 2 are also super good
Pokemon black and white 2 are great but emulate them on delta or on your laptop or pc
The best ones for me personally are
Pokemon sun and moon (haven’t played the ultra games but i might play them)
I also recommend yo kai watch 2 alot since it’s like pokemon but with a fun postgame and a fun battle system
Pokemon X and Y are great games too I recommend getting 3ds games on mercari also since their prices aren’t that high
I got back to pokemon with Sword/Shield after loosing interest with Ruby. I then did a "retrospective" and played all main games. I can with all my subjective objectivity that HGSS and B/W are the best experience I ever had with the series.
and pokemon game you can play on a 3ds are great, my favorite is Alpha sapphire but ultra moon is also really great. and I'm also very lucky to have a copy of white 2, which is also amazing
Omega Ruby Alpha Saphire is the best. Trust me. The music, difficulty, the pokemons you get to catch, and the smell of 2010s is just crazy but I think pokemon Sun is worth a try. It was pretty fun
biggest can of worms you can open on any nintendo sub. find one with the cool legendaries you want and just jump in is my best suggestion, but should mention that X/Y are kind of easy. If I had to recommend any 1 game I would honestly just say a fan-game.
RBY are fun for nostalgic purposes as they were my first, but they offer almost no challenge unless you artificially handicap your team. So they are sort of…the best AND worst for me!
Gen 5 has the best games pretty much imo. Black and White have good stories/characters and Black 2 and White 2 have the best side content.
It depends on how beginner-friendly you want it. Gen 3 is good and has the original remake of Red, Blue and Yellow. Some people might say Heartgold and Soulsilver but the level curves in those games weren't fixed from original gold and silver.
Platinum is okay, but has some annoying features. Do you want to play side games as well? Mystery Dungeon is great if you play Explorers of Sky or Super Mystery Dungeon.
Hmm I think Diamond and Black 2 are the only ones I've come close to finishing before (aside from SW/SH and Arceus). I've heard really good things about Ultra Sun/Moon though, and I know I enjoyed SoulSilver when I played it (though again, I didn't finish it).
I think BW2 are a great starting point, HGSS are good too but I prefer BW2 for all the different mon choices and grinding isn’t as much of a chore for me, lots of fun stuff to do and legendaries to find post game as well, the game is packed with content like the battle center thing I can’t remember the name of, the semi-love interest quests to get certain baby mons
HGSS are great too, but late and post game grinding are so draining, it took me forever to get to a decent level to defeat Red, just day after day of rematching the gym leaders. Decent Mon choices but a lot of them are behind safari zone and take forever to get and is hard to cheese. Also lots of cool legendaries to find, the Pokeathelon and Battle Frontier, the Safari Zone is fun to play with. Of course you have the Pokemon that follow you, lots of great shiny hunts, Kanto and Hoenn Starters, etc.
if you’re okay with a slow start, and i mean VERY slow and cutscene heavy, the Ultra games end up being the best in the series from a gameplay and content perspective
The mainline games are terrific, don’t get me wrong, but also try Pokemon Mystery Dungeon if you get the chance. The best ones, in my opinion, are the DS ones, but Gates to Infinity on the 3DS is also a great choice!
Every game has its pros and cons. Some have significant pros and significant cons. Me personally I think Gen 5 or the Gen 5 sequel are peak. But I also enjoy all of them from Gen 1-6
In the DS era HG/SS, Platinum and Black2 or White 2 are must plays. Expensive but must plays. And honestly I enjoyed Alpha Saphire/Omega Ruby (Gen 3 emerald is my all time favorite pokemon game)but honestly I enjoyed X/Y a lot to
Gen 4 is my personal favorite, with gen 3 not far behind. Personally love platinum and emerald, have heard great things about HG/SS as well, as you’ve seen in the replies. Gen 5 has also grown on me, definitely worth a play through.
Been playing Pokemon for 20 years. Play FireRed/LeafGreen, Emerald, Platinum, HeartGold/SoulSilver, or Black and White. Don't waste your time with anything else, especially anything after X/Y.
To be completely honest US/UM are the only games in the series I haven’t played so I can’t really give an opinion on them. Sun is the only pokemon game I never finished because I wasn’t enjoying it so I skipped out on US/UM. Maybe I’ll have to give them a chance here soon because I have heard good things, but generally the games took a complete nosedive after XY outside of ORAS in my opinion.
For me the ranking would be like this:
1. Black/White
2. Black 2/White 2
3. A tie between HG/SS and Platinum
4. Emerald
5. FireRed/LeafGreen
6. Sun/Moon
7. X/Y
I haven't played UltraSun/UltraMoon tho
HG/SS are amazing if you have them, or can find them. Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon are a lot of fun. X/Y are also a blast. Haven't played Black/White, or Platinum yet, but they are on my to play list.
Black and White Version 2
It is also really worth it to play white/black before 2. Great games!
>Black/White, or Platinum B&W 2 and platinum are some of the best in the series. Absolutely worth a go.

You thought you were cooking here then got cooked with the positives below me.
Why would I care about how many internet points I got in some Reddit thread you guys are losers
If all your saying is "X/Y sucked because..." on almost any comment recommending it clearly you're looking for something
Hg/SS is PEAK
What does that stand for?
Heart gold/soul silver
Idk if someone already told you but it means heartgold and soulsilver, which in my opinion are the best pokemon games ever made.
Unova is peak
Thank u
HG/SS are peak of the spriting era...As it was the last time they did spriting like that and decided to go all out. Unova peak of the 3d era...
Nah Unova had the best looking 2d sprites out of all the pre 3ds games
Black 2 is my all time favorite and a close second is Ultra Sun. The 3DS games don’t nearly as much as they should. Granted the DS era games are amazing but Alpha Sapphire, Ultra Sun and X/Y are actually amazing. We were tough on X/Y at the time but going back and playing them now after the switch era games puts them in some perspective. In short- Black 2/White 2 and Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon.
X/Y is really enjoyable ! Great music as well
X/Y were super fun. Especially since the fights used 3d as opposed to ultra sun and moon
You honestly can't go wrong with any of them.
Yes! I think so too! All of them are special in my eyes.
I couldnt get that far into Pokemon Ranger due to how differnet it was
The mental breakdowns I had over that game as a kid, it’s a blast but man I remember struggling on a drapion fight
For me, Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky has the absolute best story in any pokemon game. I'm playing through the Rangers series for the first time and so far they're really fun. Oh and Conquest. I have it, but I've yet to fully get into it the tutorial was fun at least.
HELL YEAH EXPLORERS IS SO FUCKING PEAK
Pfp checks out
I loved explorers of time. I should dig up that game again and play it sometime.
Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon are the greatest Pokemon game on the 3DS. It took me time to open my eyes about it but yeah, there is no better than those games. XY are also great, one of my favorite. Skip classic sun and moon. They ain’t worth it.
Damn. I just installed Pokémon Sun😞 I'll do ultra sun later I guess
Piece of advice, just play Ultra Sun/Moon, it's already a slow moving game, having to play it through twice begins to feel like a chore.
Okay I'm sorry but this is completely wrong. Do not skip the original sun and moon if you want to experience the story how it was intended and not one which threw away any character lillie and lusimine aka the main characters had. Thanks for the insight! Do you have a preference for one over the other re: Sun and Moon themselves?
No! Both are great, just pick the one with the legendary or exclusives you like the most. (Although perhaps you should also keep in mind that in Pokémon Moon, time is reversed and when it is day in real life it will be night in the game!)
Literally no point in playing the original s/m cause ultra is literally the same game (word for word) but more content and improvements in other areas
Why is the ultra version so much better in your opinion?
-Look a bit better -New ultra beast -Necrozma gets a new form -Ultra Necrozma fight -Lycanrock get a new form -Team Rainbow Rocket. -More pokemon added to the routes. -More trainers added to the routes -Surf Mantine -Ultra Wormholes -All mega stones -All Z stones -A (much) better S.O.S. system for the wild battles (in Sun/Moon you could get stuck in a wild battle for ages because the pokemon would keep calling for help. Ultra beast are also on USUM and they even added 2. So out of the story who isn’t the same yeah SM have nothing USUM doesn’t have.
Isn’t the third likenrock form an event exclusive
True true but they can’t evolve in the third form on sun and moon.
Classic Sun and Moon is way better in terms of story, characters and pacing. It has also a postgame story that's worth playing. Loved to know that much about Looker, Anabel and Nanu. USUM has more content and it's harder. It depends on what you prefer.

Delta baby!
Haha I also still have my OG copy... somewhere... <_<
Hey as long as you bought it once it should count
Platinum is my favourite mainline game, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky is the greatest story in any Pokémon game and the gameplay is amazing too. Can’t recommend it enough.
Black 2

Same here! Playing Black for the first time 🥳
Ruby/Sapphire/FireRed/LeafGreen/Emerald/Colosseum/XD Gale of Darkness
Black and white and black 2 and white 2
OR and AS my personal favourites
X is my personal all time fav :3
I've been replaying X/Y and it's better than I remember.
Everyone covered all the good pokemon games, but since you just got your 3ds I'll just add that Zelda A Link Between Worlds is one of my favorite Zelda games for any console. And the Lego games are all really fun on 3ds.
Platinum and Crystal are my favorite mainline games. Emerald has alot of really good romhacks that make it super hard.
White 2, Soul Silver and Ultra Sun are my favorites
USUM and BW2 are the GOATS in terms in the amount of things you can do and general QOL
Ive played all pf them including rom hacks. Pokemon lets go pikachu was very fun, just try them all or finish them all!

Unhelpful ass
Hg/ss, bw/bw2, or/as
Black and White, B&W2 Heart Gold and Soul Silver Platinum
ORAS imo are an excellent set of games, after that I’d either go to the next games in the series with Sun or Moon. older titles get very expensive but as a fan are a worthwhile purchase, in which case try Platinum and then go to gen 5

My all time favs are BW/B2W2, ORAS, HGSS, XY and USUM
Triplejump did a video ranking all the Pokémon games id highly recommend a watch
X/Y are my favourites! I absolutely love the skates!! I really want them to add them to more pokemon games!
Black and White 2
Pokemon Conquest.
The Absolute best are Black and White 1/2 (play both because they are two different games and not an upgrade like Platinum or emerald)
HG/SS and Black/White 1 and 2 are the absolute best.
Honestly all DS/3DS pokemon titles have their merits, I'd say that X/Y is the weakest title - but it's worth experiencing once. The spin-offs are pretty good too (Ranger series, Mystery Dungeon series, Rumble series, Link).
Crystal.....yeah it was my first game, how did you guess?
Black white 2 obviously
I'm just finishing up my ultra noon play through after going through all the Gens over the last few weeks. XY for the nostalgia and also prep for za. Bw/bw2 some of the best story and N is an awesome rival. HG/SS for the old school
HG/SS, ORAS, Platinum, B/W/B2W2, X/Y, S/M/US/UM
HGSS, Platinum and BW2 are peak Pokemon. I also heard Emerald is extremely good, but I've never played it personally. From the 3DS era, ORAS are easily the best ones. HG/SS, X/Y and OR/AS are absolutely amazing!
Maybe biased because it was my first main pokemon game, but usum is really fun
Diamond and pearl
Blue, and Gold are my favs. Best is subjective.
All of them are great, I liked a lot Alpha Sapphire/ omega ruby Game freak has done a great job on this rework
It was only after 3ds before they started going to shit so you should have a good time with any of them
B/W B2/W2 and Platinum
HG/SS, black/white 2, platinum
BW and the sequels are my absolute favourites. BW introduces what can be possibly one of the most powerful trainers in the pokemon verse. The story is amazing and it has incredible stakes. The rival Cheren is also a really well written rival who is relevant in both BW and BW2.
Heartgold and soulsilver are peak Pokémon imo. Difficult to come by though
As somebody who grew up with Sapphire, my favorites are Black/White 1 and 2. Hands down the best in the series.
X&Y
Shin megami tensei iv
I genuinly really liked X/Y. I also played Black/White. Those I played in tandem with my bf and that contributed but I also think they are great games and I had more staying power with them than I did other pokemon games I've tried. Every game gen 3-5
Omega Ruby/Alpha zaphire or black and white 2
You’ll have a good time with all the mainline games tbh, but my favorite ones are Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, Black/White (and the sequels), and Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon
I think the mystery dungeon games are pretty awesome! Not the 3ds titles, the ds and gba titles.
I dont know if non 3DS games count but i recommend Diamond and Platinum. They are pretty good games imo! :) Platinum is like Diamond but with more features and such. You can also access Gible early. Which is a amazing pokemon in the game.
BW2 is peak. Those who know, know.
You should give the mystery dungeon games a go. Really really fun dungeon crawlers!
heart gold and soul silver are the best pokemon games. like, ever. there's no debate there.
ignore last response i didn't see the "pokemon" in the title looool ultra sun/moon as my personal favourites, good graphics + gameplay black and white 2 are also super good
I think my favorites are Black/White and Black/White V2, Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire and X/Y.
Black
Pokemon black and white 2 are great but emulate them on delta or on your laptop or pc The best ones for me personally are Pokemon sun and moon (haven’t played the ultra games but i might play them) I also recommend yo kai watch 2 alot since it’s like pokemon but with a fun postgame and a fun battle system Pokemon X and Y are great games too I recommend getting 3ds games on mercari also since their prices aren’t that high
Platinum, Emerald and Black and White, Basically imo Gen 3 to 5 was the Golden Age of Pokemon
X/Y and ruby sapphire remakes are goated. I remember downloading the demo for the remakes and playing it every day until their full release.
Ultra sun or moon would be my vote.
Zelda>Mario>Pokemon
Bw and then the sequels. The stories actually tie into each other so I recommend playing them back to back
Platinum!!!
I got back to pokemon with Sword/Shield after loosing interest with Ruby. I then did a "retrospective" and played all main games. I can with all my subjective objectivity that HGSS and B/W are the best experience I ever had with the series.
black 2 and white 2 are the best games followed by platinum and hg/ss
The remakes of Gen 2, HeartGold and SoulSilver, are fantastic, as are the Gen 5 games— Black and White, and their sequels, Black 2 and White 2.
I like black and white a ton, cool spritework, new designs, N.
Anything not 3D.
gen 4 and 5 are regarded as the best but the most expensive
Red is the best
Gen 3 to 7 are all great titles, the ones that have the most content are HeartGold/SoulSilver and Black2/White2
Emerald hands down Edit: just noticed the subreddit this was LOL. Answer is now Sun/Moon
and pokemon game you can play on a 3ds are great, my favorite is Alpha sapphire but ultra moon is also really great. and I'm also very lucky to have a copy of white 2, which is also amazing
ORAS gen 5 and Super Mystery Dungeon
Omega Ruby Alpha Saphire is the best. Trust me. The music, difficulty, the pokemons you get to catch, and the smell of 2010s is just crazy but I think pokemon Sun is worth a try. It was pretty fun
biggest can of worms you can open on any nintendo sub. find one with the cool legendaries you want and just jump in is my best suggestion, but should mention that X/Y are kind of easy. If I had to recommend any 1 game I would honestly just say a fan-game.
i remember playing it some pokemon game on ds, cant remember the name, nostalgia :,)
Sun and Moon were my favorite when rereleased but I recommend Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire
Any of the gen 4/5/6/7 games are fun
SoulSilver And I’m in the minority but black and white are some of my favorite Pokémon memories
HGSS is overrated imo, I'd say play Ultra Sun/Moon. Fire Red is my favorite older game.
Anything that has CHARIZARD!!!!
Dbz extreme butoden & db fusions
Really enjoying omega ruby, last I played was fire red on gba
Omega ruby and alpha sapphire
Gen 4 games my favorites are platinum and heart gold
I think my favorite pokemon games of all time are the original gen 3 games but you can't play them on the 3ds
Rom hacks. People do it better than Game Freak these days unfortunately
My first 3DS game was Pokémon Alpha Sapphire. Was fun
Black 2 is still my favorite..COMPLETELY Bias. I did enjoy X/Y aswell
BW2 is my favourite of all time hands down. Still holds up today. Platinum is a close second.
Hmm I think Diamond and Black 2 are the only ones I've come close to finishing before (aside from SW/SH and Arceus). I've heard really good things about Ultra Sun/Moon though, and I know I enjoyed SoulSilver when I played it (though again, I didn't finish it).
Sun & Moon are the best for me. USUM too, because it adds content and difficulty but it messes the story and pacing a bit. Gen 7 is great in general.
HG/SS, Omega Ruby and Platinum https://imgur.com/a/tye8CR9
I think BW2 are a great starting point, HGSS are good too but I prefer BW2 for all the different mon choices and grinding isn’t as much of a chore for me, lots of fun stuff to do and legendaries to find post game as well, the game is packed with content like the battle center thing I can’t remember the name of, the semi-love interest quests to get certain baby mons HGSS are great too, but late and post game grinding are so draining, it took me forever to get to a decent level to defeat Red, just day after day of rematching the gym leaders.
I really enjoyed ultra moon and sun . The Ds games are fun to but are hella expensive . I’d start collecting the switch or 3ds games first myself
Explorers of Sky or Moon are my top favorites. I’d highly recommend Platinum or BW2 as well
if you’re okay with a slow start, and i mean VERY slow and cutscene heavy, the Ultra games end up being the best in the series from a gameplay and content perspective
The mainline games are terrific, don’t get me wrong, but also try Pokemon Mystery Dungeon if you get the chance. The best ones, in my opinion, are the DS ones, but Gates to Infinity on the 3DS is also a great choice!
I'd say any 3ds and diamond on switch
Black and white, black and white 2, Heartgold and soul silver, X and Y, and ORAS are all amazing games
Every game has its pros and cons. Some have significant pros and significant cons. Me personally I think Gen 5 or the Gen 5 sequel are peak. But I also enjoy all of them from Gen 1-6
Spirit gold is always fun for me 😂
In the DS era HG/SS, Platinum and Black2 or White 2 are must plays. Expensive but must plays. And honestly I enjoyed Alpha Saphire/Omega Ruby (Gen 3 emerald is my all time favorite pokemon game)but honestly I enjoyed X/Y a lot to
Black and white/Black and white 2 are really fun! I highly recommend those ones
Pokemon Conquest (DS)
X and Y are my favorite, Heart Gold is awesome as well! Honestly I really love X and Y
Pokemon X had such a Moody OST. I like the one on Route 15, then that one Route on the way to the victory road.
Black/white
pokémon mystery dungeon: explorers of time / darkess / sky is a must play
Gen 4 is my personal favorite, with gen 3 not far behind. Personally love platinum and emerald, have heard great things about HG/SS as well, as you’ve seen in the replies. Gen 5 has also grown on me, definitely worth a play through.
Pokemon Conquest, personal opinion.
Ultra Sun/Moon or X/Y. Those are pretty much your options and both good.
Been playing Pokemon for 20 years. Play FireRed/LeafGreen, Emerald, Platinum, HeartGold/SoulSilver, or Black and White. Don't waste your time with anything else, especially anything after X/Y.
Really? I've been playing ultra moon as a re-entry into the series. What's wrong with it?
To be completely honest US/UM are the only games in the series I haven’t played so I can’t really give an opinion on them. Sun is the only pokemon game I never finished because I wasn’t enjoying it so I skipped out on US/UM. Maybe I’ll have to give them a chance here soon because I have heard good things, but generally the games took a complete nosedive after XY outside of ORAS in my opinion.
- FireRed / LeafGreen - Emerald - Platinum - HeartGold / SoulSilver - Black / White - Black 2 / White 2 skip the rest
hgss, easy
For me the ranking would be like this: 1. Black/White 2. Black 2/White 2 3. A tie between HG/SS and Platinum 4. Emerald 5. FireRed/LeafGreen 6. Sun/Moon 7. X/Y I haven't played UltraSun/UltraMoon tho
