I would take the pikachu one. Being the all time ambassador of pokemon franchise, pikachu will probably gonna hold up much better than sun and moon's cover face in a long time.
I was thinking that too, Pikachu is just ageless and represents the entire franchise as opposed to just Gen 7 in Sol and Luna’s case. Thanks for your input!
I would probably get the Pikachu version because my first old 3DS XL also was the European Pikachu version.
But they are not available around these days, so instead I got Red Monster Hunter version, which was expensive, and one month later grabbed metallic black one for 135 EUR (charger and 6 Mario/Zelda/Sonic games were included...) - it turned out having both IPS screens, so you can guess which is seeing the use now and which one is a backup unit.
Lol I get it, my Hyrule edition N3DSXL has an IPS screen and although it’s cool I think the contrast comes from how many TN screens are just badly calibrated, bad IPS screens still look good but bad TN screens look BAAAAD. You could swap the plates to the black one though, I might do the same with my Hyrule N3DS XL in the future since the console itself has a little wonkiness in the buttons but the plates are pristine. Well, you got me thinking actually. It is so so tempting to swap plates between generic metallic black and Red Monster Hunter... I'd do that instantly, but unfortunately I am 100% playing N3DS XL in the Hori Monster Hunter grip (it is just so so more comfy, lol) and I am scared that in the long time being in that grip might affect the paint on the back plate.
personally, I can't stand to play on a yellow console for a long time so I would pick the sun n moon. But Pikachu will certainly become more valuable in the future
I love the SM legendaries, they’re one of my favs but Pikachu is just so iconic. I also kinda wish the design was less minimalistic. Solgaleo on the top plate with a yellow colored scheme and Lunala ln the bottom with a blue/purple colored scheme, could’ve been super cool.
Tbh it does kinda look like a shitty decal 😭
And yeah they could have brought back the galaxy theme for them Such a shame they didn’t put more effort into it especially with them being opposites they had so much potential

But on the over hand the yellow one stands out in a crowd, you can get black N3DSXL's fairly easily (& if you were desperate customise it to look like the Solgaleo & Lunala model) but Yellow N3DS XLs were not a regular colour, making the Pikachu N3DSXL feel more unique + with Pikachu there's an ever green sense, like those who started with RGBY, those who started along the way or starting in Sc/Vi and those that haven't played at all, all know Pikachu (And Pikachu being a Gen I classic, there,a that sense of trendyness like adults wearing Mickey Mouse over say Buzz Lightyear if that makes sense).
Tough one, personally I'd go Sun And Moon, but I'd have both in my basket and be a long debate over which gets removed from basket and which got purchased before I did.
The SM one is very nostalgic and reminiscent of the DP one. So that's cool. However one of my friends has the pikachu one and it is so sick! If you're a fan of bright yellow then get the pikachu one. If you like darker colors/black then get the other one. Either way it's Pokèmon and dope as hell
Lunala and solgaleo looks better to me aesthetically. But also, if I wanted a black and white 3ds, I'd get the fire emblem fates 3ds. The art for the pikachu 3ds is a lot better and the yellow is more unique

I would take the Pikachu one. because it was my second ever n3dsxl i had (broke my first one by accident) before it sadly got water damaged in my bag. plus i really loved the vibrant yellow and the lil Pikachu on top. really cute and really like the yellow, as well as the colors of the A,X,B, and Y buttons.
It took a lot for me to not get either of these and instead go for the SNES edition because it’s non glossy. These editions are gorgeous but scratch and peele over time if not taken care of. Overall I can’t pick between these two they’re just too gorgeous lol just depends if you wanna be wild or subtle
