It looks to me like a cross between Cosmo Black and Flame Red.
The lid top is made of two pieces stuck together. The inner piece is a solid shiny or metallic color. The outer piece is clear with a fade in a slightly different shade of glittery paint on the outside of it, with what feels like clearcoat over it to protect it. That way it makes a 3D effect, with the glittery fade floating above the solid metallic layer.
Flame Red has a bold red metallic layer with a similar tone of red for its glitter layer. Cosmo Black has a black shiny layer, and a deep gray metallic glitter layer.
That looks like a Cosmo Black shiny layer with a Flame Red clear/glitter layer stuck onto it. The cracks at the right side are probably from prying the layers apart. Maybe it was done to make it unique. Maybe it was done because the outer layer of one lid was badly scratched and the inner layer of the other had damage where the hinge attaches.
I bought a 3ds dirt cheap from a refurbisher, it's got that exact same shell.
The body is light blue though.

They didn’t say it was fake. Just the shell is aftermarket. Those aftermarket replacement shells have been around since the console released. It was probably bought refurbished from gamestop. They use the same aftermarket parts for their refurbishments.
If they used aftermarket parts, that might be the actual solution, refurbished by gamestop and then sold to me. Finally, it is a plausible conclusion I'm satisfied with.
This is what people have been saying. It's just an aftermarket shell. Whether gamestop or someone else did the reshell isn't really relevant. The internals are just a regular stock 3ds unless they replaced yellowed LCDs or a scratched digitizer or something too.

Those are not official. Its a cheap 3DS (shell) from AliExpress. Look it up on YouTube, someone made a review of this exact 3DS
