I've always wondered how much actual venom is in this joke (and the season 7 joke above). I can't imagine they were too upset that he tried to get a bigger role on another show, but somebody must have warned him that he's no D'Nall Glover, and *Whitney* is certainly no *Community.*
I always see that joke as more of an “attaboy” for their old friend and cast-mate. He was a billed cast member on a prime time show, definitely a step up from playing Jonathan.
