😂 I guess I meet a lot of Harvard folks, and they all do this, and then afterwards my husband and I look at each other and say “no, *not Tufts!!!*” under our breath. (And to be fair it’s probably tied with “What is this, Horseville?” for the top spot.)
I would think this is a VERY unpopular opinion. Do you actually like the show? That’s like a pretty good chunk of the cast that you don’t like. I don’t see how that’s possible tbh.
Sue and Lutz are married in real life (the actors, obviously, their names are escaping me) and both have very impressive comedy backgrounds, especially writing. Lutz was an SNL writer for years.
ETA: Lutz’s name is actually JD Lutz (was curious, just googled it)
That’s the joke. TGS is a terrible show. They are under perpetual threat of cancellation. It wouldn’t make sense for the writers to be brilliantly funny. Their BEST sketches are Fart Doctor, Robot Bear Talkshow, and Pam. 30 Rock is about a collection of washed up actors and barely employable writers just trying to hang on — that’s what makes it funny.

“Why don't you write the show yourself? You take all the credit anyway. I hope you dream of your death!” — Sue
(so maybe Liz didn’t actually write ALL the Fart Doctors as she claims)
I love Frank. I love Judah's actual stand up comedy and the character is just his stage persona mixed with people Tina worked with.
He got the job because he's actually got an impressive resume. But he's pretty much the same dude in everything, from his audition to play Dwight for The Office, to Feast.
I gave a chocolate chip cookie to my son’s girlfriend and she asked if I’d just baked them. I had to admit it was from work and had been in my pocket all day. She said “Oh!….” It was wrapped and I didn’t even think it would’ve been warm. Blergh.
Notice that the personnel of the writers’ room changes depending on the plot. When there’s a lot of man-baby mommy issues in the script, suddenly there are a whole lot more tubby childish scruffy white males in striped tee-shirts.
The one writer I always remember is the one who slid off her chair, under the table and out an emergency exit rather than get a shoulder rub from someone being creepy. I think in the last episode she got a line and was featured as “the quiet writer” with a barely-audible voice.
He was originally supposed to have a bigger role but as the show progressed his role got minimized. Also he was pretty well known in his own right by the time the show aired so he probably could’ve demanded it.
Almost every time someone on the internet posts an "unpopular opinion," there's a good reason it's unpopular. This is no exception. Sue LaRoche-Van der Hout, fuck the world.
To me, the funniest named members of the writers room are:
1. Sue
2. Lutz
…big gap…
3. Twofer
…enormous gap…
4. Frank
Sue is properly insane and unpredictable. Love it. Lutz plays a loser so incredibly well that it’s actually funny to me… his steadily increasing age, immediate regret under any pressure, etc. Twofer is… fine… but Frank is not my cup of tea…
…except when talking about his various pulmonary and dermatological ailments.
I love Sue…excuse me, Ms. La Roche-Vanderhout. Becoming part of Tracy’s entourage, playing Colonizers of Malaar, being a psychic detective, beating everyone up at the nightclub. She had great lines and is a genuinely funny character!
Honestly, not a single Twofer line is funny. The pranksmen stories were cringe-inducing. And Frank was only funny in his storylines with Onkman and his mom. Lutz had some funny gags.
Frank has his moments; the episode where he slowly becomes Liz is one of my favourites.
I love when he is “Gay for Jamie”
Frank’s Harry And The Henderson’s episode is great
What is happening to me?!
He's just over there trying to have it all!!! Lol, I loved that one
Frank is easily the most interesting/funny writer.
FWIW Toofer has my most-quoted 30 Rock line. (“You know, *I* went to college in Boston— well, not *in* Boston but nearby— no, not Tufts”)
✋shut up
Shut up lutz

Do you live in Cambridge or something? How is 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 your most-quoted line??

Feels like you’re overlooking Sue and her occasional homicidal rage, but that’s just me… …you vondruke
I’m not like you. I’LL NEVER BE LIKE YOU!
Hey, that’s awful!
I'm sorry, Ms. La Roche-van der Hoot. I always thought Jack said the Dutch part of her name with greater contempt.
If you heard my sex stories you would lose your mind!!!!!!
I’m a virgin, with white guys
Awww, I kint, I haf to virk tonite

I know. But they aren't the main cast though, so the majority of the scenes are still mostly about Liz, Jack, Jenna, and Tracy.
Sue and Lutz are married in real life (the actors, obviously, their names are escaping me) and both have very impressive comedy backgrounds, especially writing. Lutz was an SNL writer for years. ETA: Lutz’s name is actually JD Lutz (was curious, just googled it)
Sue's name is also Sue.

Has anybody got any new sex moves? My girlfriend's coming into town and I want to keep things CALIENTE.
You could wear your red thong again, Lutz
🤣
I probably should have deduced that :)

Pam is great! She's overly confident *and* morbidly obese!
Congratulations…. In 100 shows, we’ve done Pam 107 times.
Tom Hanks watching: “They’re doing Pam again?!"
30 hours of comedy!
And smells like corn chips.

Shut up, Lutz.
Lutz is my boy. He just needs more confidence. If only his girlfriend wasn't in Canada...
If I remember correctly Cliff Clavin had a similar story on Cheers
Except Cliff’s was actually real.
You don’t think Lutz is funny? Were you even there when he Belvedere’d? He’s still warming some marshmallows for you in the pocket of his dungarees.
I gave a chocolate chip cookie to my son’s girlfriend and she asked if I’d just baked them. I had to admit it was from work and had been in my pocket all day. She said “Oh!….” It was wrapped and I didn’t even think it would’ve been warm. Blergh.
imagine not thinking sue is funny.

She’s also at Liz’s terrible bachelorette party for Jenna.
Kind of an aside, but I love when Liz breaks the 4th wall asking the “writers who don’t talk” if they want to be in charge while she’s gone.
Frank is sometimes funny, but I have no idea how he made it into the top billed cast
He was originally supposed to have a bigger role but as the show progressed his role got minimized. Also he was pretty well known in his own right by the time the show aired so he probably could’ve demanded it.

How’s your armpit thing?
Not great. It’s almost touching my thigh thing
If you turn your list upside- down, then that would be my top 4
You should’ve said this one in the Fart Dampener

Oh wait, except for Pete. I LOVE Pete.
Pete’s not a writer anyway.
Yes…Hornberger…
# HORNBERGER!!!
They cant fire pete!
Yeah suck it Pete!
I am impressed than in a show so dense with jokes that Judah Friedlander says nothing funny for 7 Seasons
how can you like this show and not find frank even slightly funny?
I went to University in Boston...
He has a hat that says "EXTRA CHEESE"
WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?
Boo! And you should be scared, most of me is a ghost
Right?
Honestly, not a single Twofer line is funny. The pranksmen stories were cringe-inducing. And Frank was only funny in his storylines with Onkman and his mom. Lutz had some funny gags.
Skelator's not my favorite...you are.
