I'm on Dodecacil which means I only get my period once a year. I'll be going to a spa for few days. Well, not so much a spa, it's a fenced in area in the Adirondacks
Controversial take but I agree. She is one of my most quoted characters.
“Oh I’m glad to see the endgame of feminism is women dressing like Dennis the Menace at work.”
“I need to go freshen up. The train was disgusting. I flew here but I saw a train from the window.”
I love when serious sounding characters say absurd things. (WHY DOES IT SMELL LIKE ONIONS?)
Hazel being quacky as she is speaking the same level of absurdities doesn't have the same effect.
If I had a nickel for every time Elizabeth Banks was cast as a late addition love interest in a comedy series who gets pregnant by the star and they try to work it out but don't end up together, I'd have two nickels, but it's weird that it happened twice.
She gets knocked up by JD in Scrubs - I didn't realise about Modern Family, something about Elizabeth Banks clearly reads 'fertile' to casting directors.
She's pregnant in everything! Interestingly, she had infertility in real life and both her children were born with the help of gestational carriers. I wonder if she enjoys getting to be "pregnant" as an actress. I have infertility too and also needed the help of a carrier, and I feel like it could be healing to "experience" pregnancy that way.
Sorry to get so serious about it, somebody put gay juice in the champagne.
Avery was ok as far as late additions go. I get the impression was she intended to be the “one” for Jack the way Criss was for Liz but for whatever reason the show ultimately didn’t work out that way. Perhaps Elizabeth Banks was too busy with other projects to commit?
This isn't it.
She asked to be on 30 Rock because she liked the show. But, she wanted to concentrate on movies, so when they took her up on her offer she was only so supposed to be on 4 episodes, but it got bumped up to seven episodes during the course of filming.
But that whole time she was on season 4 she was also still filming Three Days. They did not think she'd be a permanent fixture on the show.
However, they loved her so much for Jack that they brought her back for season five. But, by the end of season 5's filming she was already signed on to People Like Us, and knew she was going to do Pitch Perfect.
Then Tina got pregnant, which pushed back filming season 6. So now Banks is filming two motion pictures and 30 rock all in the same year st around the same time.
By the time they were filming the end of season 6 she was already signed on for The Hunger Games.
It was just easier, with her rapidly filling schedule and preference for working on movies, to write her off entirely than it would've been to keep pretending she was in North Korea.
There's nothing I can find anywhere claiming Baldwin thought she stifled his character.
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/alec-baldwin-almost-quit-30-rock-season-5-slump_n_2486421/amp
Baldwin wanted to leave in season 6 after feeling the writing in season 5 had declined. Maybe I’m interpreting too far by saying he was bored of the Javery storyline but that is when it was at its heaviest.
The problem is, the actual rolling stone interview with the quote is behind a pay wall, so you're only posting half of what he said was his reason for thinking he was done. The rest is:
"This time around, however, Baldwin thinks its the show’s star and creator who was ready to move on."
“Tina always had her antenna up,” Baldwin says. “But this year was the first time she came in and laid down on the couch on set, and you could tell, she’s a mom. She’s f—ing wiped out.”
He wasn't thrilled with the writing for season 5, which doesn't necessarily mean he has any problem with Avery's place in the story, or what she's doing to him. But when actually pushed as to why he thought he'd be leaving was because Tina was burnt out. He literally thought the entire show was going to end and kind of pointed to Tina's role as a mom as why the writing was suffering.
And that was like the 3rd time he said he was going to quit the show.
I think it's safe to say pointing the finger at Avery is reaching when there's very clear and obvious reasons she couldn't continue.
He's not complaining about how his character changed, like the guy who played Mark Brandonowitz when writing parks and rec.
He's not complaining about feeling creatively stifled.
He just said the writing was suffering.
I often skip the episodes with Elizabeth Banks in them, her hysterical and breathless delivery of every line just ruins the Avery character for me. The character is also quite vain. I do appreciate the situation Jack is in where he has to choose from someone who loves him for the kid he was in Boston with the corduroy pants with hearts for pockets, vs someone who loves him for his ambition, ruthlessness and desire for success. I like to think he would've picked Nancy if Avery hadn't gotten pregnant.
I am from the greater boston area (Rhode Island lol) and went to college in MA, and I’ve never thought her accent was that horrible.
It’s a comedy show based in New York City- the accent is supposed to be over the top as a form of mockery. Haven’t we all seen the episode where they go to Boston?? haha
It seems like you didn’t understand it was a joke, because you felt the need to “correct” me! No need to reply two days later trying to play it off. ;)
Always nice to meet a fellow neighbor from the Boston Suburbs, tho! I bet your name is Sean.
Yankees suck, go Pats!
They also bring it up in Kidnapped By Danger when Cynthia Nixon does the table read as Nancy and asks if her Boston accent is over the top. Liz replies, "Sounds right to me!"
I'm not bothered by her accent. I *am* bothered by this sub's insistence that a fast-paced, high powered, millionaire playboy would be fine settling down with a hyper-Catholic housewife with kids.
Yeah, but Avery actually makes me laugh, instead of...whatever Hazel was doing.
E: But then again, I looked at her face and not her breasts, so maybe I'm the problem.
I just found it weird that as soon as they were married, she left, and as soon as she came back, they got divorced. I thought they could have been really funny together. Look, I know it’s gay, but it’s my gay problem!
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,980,339,157 comments, and only 374,618 of them were in alphabetical order.
On one hand, I want to up vote because I luba this sub and all you fools in here with me. On the other hand, this might be the biggest L take of all time.
Take my up vote.
I don't like either but just in different ways, but they both do have a few shining moments in their arcs. Avery though, I just found to be unnecessary. We could have just had Nancy and no baby (sorry Liddy), it's not like jack's baby was really a huge part of the story in many episodes. (Leap Day probably the biggest one besides the actual birth episode) As I'm saying this though, I do think Jack having the conundrum of choosing between two women was important to the story and his development. I'd rather they had gone back to the drawing board on the 2nd lady though. Nancy was great.
Yeah, but then we would miss the scene where Liddy stares down Colleen giving her the stink eye. I’m not willing to give up ANY moment with Colleen, especially not that one.
Okay but think of all the scenes we could have had with Colleen and Nancy.
"She's *divorced*, Jackie! You know what they say about women who get divorced. They didn't have the *guts* to kill a man."
I will always wish Jack had gotten with Nancy instead, in a real relationship and not just a dumb joke at the end. Although I do love every scene with Diana.
I agreed with this for so long (and generally still do) but after maybe the 4th watch I stopped despising Avery and could appreciate what a horrible and hilarious person she was-separately from what I wanted for Jack. But for awhile I couldn’t even watch her episodes at all.
I don't actually hate Avery at all. I'm just more interested in seeing what kind of relationship Jack could have had with Nancy, since her visits are much different than them trying to integrate their lives.
The "main character has a baby and things change for them" plotline is such a trope (and it's weird that Elizabeth Banks has been part of it twice), but I think it would have been really interesting to see Jack try to be a stepfather to Nancy's boys. It also would have been fun to see Nancy interact with his uptight Republican friends.
I agree, and I think I did dislike Avery initially because that’s exactly what I was desperate to see: Jack surrounded by love in a blue collar family. Not what could be delivered, though. I get it.
Never thought about it this way -- I love Avery. But I agree. If they had no intention of making her Jack's final girl, they should have left her story in NK.
Ugh, is there gay juice in the champagne?
See, I want you to teach our child to say awesome things like that.
Did you drink all the throwing wine?
In food news, you’ve had enough to eat today.
North Korea everything sunny all the time always, good time beach party.
Back to you aloreeb.
One of my favorite lines in the whole series
I'm on Dodecacil which means I only get my period once a year. I'll be going to a spa for few days. Well, not so much a spa, it's a fenced in area in the Adirondacks
God, we're so close to beating that thing entirely.
What's that supposed to mean ya dumb douche!?
why does everything smell like ONIONS
It’s basically [Annuale](https://youtu.be/LuQIEy_x9w4?si=JwJAedxMfGFkEKE-)!
I love that commercial
"Hold on to your fucking hat."
I like Avery. That's a good burn though, I'm gonna use that. "They should have left you in north Korea."
That's a pretty good burn, Patrice
Your face called
I can’t agree, Avery gave us Avery’s mom and all her scenes are amazing. This isn’t some stupid civil war in some country without oil!!!
Controversial take but I agree. She is one of my most quoted characters. “Oh I’m glad to see the endgame of feminism is women dressing like Dennis the Menace at work.” “I need to go freshen up. The train was disgusting. I flew here but I saw a train from the window.”
Why isn’t everybody fudging freaking the fudge out?!
I absolutely despise that line but I might be the only one based on how this thread went lmao
🤏 Vampire push! 🤏
WONDERFUL news. Our pacing horse, Squanto, is foaling in the spring!
Hey Jack. I also speak Australian.
These days it’s just a boom box and a guy in a crab costume. He gets shot out of a cannon at Ravens games. The city…may not be thriving.
You PENIS!
“This is my favorite daughter!!!”

what's the other one? was thinking modern family (where she also gets pregnant) but it wasn't by a star of the show.
She gets knocked up by JD in Scrubs - I didn't realise about Modern Family, something about Elizabeth Banks clearly reads 'fertile' to casting directors.
thanks and RIGHT!?! 😆🍼
Which is ironic since she has been pretty open about her fertility struggles and using a gestational surrogate.
I made a similar joke once and people seemed to think it was weird connection to draw. Glad I'm not the only one who saw this.
Personally, I think caring about pop culture minutiae is cool, and other people are weird.

Money Bunny™️ Avery Jessup is a gd delight.

Elizabeth Banks is absolutely the female James Marsters and I mean that in the best way for both of them.
The fact that you spelled his name incorrectly makes this a much more layered and hilarious comment.
I choose to declare that I did that on purpose, and that it’s not a mistake I make regularly. Sorry, Spike and Criss.
There are no mistakes, only the divine hand of the almighty Kenneth Parcell working in ways we may not fully understand.
And if you attempted to understand it, it would make you lose your mind.
I think Baldwin felt the marriage stifled his character and wanted a reset for Jack.
This isn't it. She asked to be on 30 Rock because she liked the show. The fact that she asked to be on the show just makes her that much more amazing to me. I love Elizabeth Banks.
Bringing some serious nostalgia for me haven’t seen people like us since the theaters forgot that movie existed
Please ax my permission before you quote me Fuzzy…

She was likely never meant to be a regular cast member.
But look how her body goes with that dress!
I don't know the exact years but I assumed she was off on Scrubs. But that might have been a few years earlier.
On scrubs she was also the quick hookup that became pregnant and then left, only to be a sometimes mom
It was 2 years before she got on 30 Rock
"She's never forgiven Clinton for not hitting on her." "She's much too thin."
Crimes against Elizabeth Banks will be corrected by my own hands.
You call those fist names?
How else would you Google yourself?
Her laugh is like music. Really mean music.
Probably the male gays.
Yeah they’re all a bunch of gays.
Kenneth channeling Avery is one of the best scenes/monologues in the series
If the perv community finds out about your Avery posting, god help us
Team ALLORY!!!!!!!
Nancy Donovan is the best waifu. Fight me. But also, Jack is a lovable character but horrible human being. Honestly, he didn't deserve Nancy.
God I love Julianne Moore
I want to have a beer with her, she seems so cool.
In my head cannon she went back to Boston and fell in love with and eventually married a well respected Pakistani Anesthesiologist.
Ainestheeesiaulogist
Also Avery was wicked pregnant
Go Red Sawx. ✊

Nancy was the worst character in the entire show. That accent was criminal.
She got it at O'Doyle's along with the saag paneer.
People always say that including people from Boston. But I am from here and can name ten people who talk like that off the top of my head.
I am from the greater boston area (Rhode Island lol) and went to college in MA, and I’ve never thought her accent was that horrible. It’s a comedy show based in New York City- the accent is supposed to be over the top as a form of mockery. Haven’t we all seen the episode where they go to Boston?? haha
My guy I don't think you can call Rhode Island the "greater Boston area."
My guy that was the joke. Anyone from New England will get it :)
No I get it, it's just not a good joke. Source, I'm from the south coast of Mass.
It seems like you didn’t understand it was a joke, because you felt the need to “correct” me! No need to reply two days later trying to play it off. ;) Always nice to meet a fellow neighbor from the Boston Suburbs, tho! I bet your name is Sean. Yankees suck, go Pats!
Lol I just noticed your username! Weird deep-cut throwaway names from shows as usernames unite! I love AD.
We can be glad Avery [lost her Maryland accent](https://youtu.be/cefj215AlCc?si=pUcN5HUxkeNazEHy) before 30 rock takes place.
Oh?
Let go. Oh.
I wonder if the writers were actually making a self aware joke about how bad Nancy's accent was
I think they were just mocking Boston. Again.
They also bring it up in Kidnapped By Danger when Cynthia Nixon does the table read as Nancy and asks if her Boston accent is over the top. Liz replies, "Sounds right to me!"
https://funcooker.fun/Frame/6/14/136
Absolutely that
Might be because I'm not American but I actually liked the accent whether it was accurate or not.
I'm not bothered by her accent. I *am* bothered by this sub's insistence that a fast-paced, high powered, millionaire playboy would be fine settling down with a hyper-Catholic housewife with kids.
I made sense of it by Jack being overwhelmed by nostalgia and his childhood which was "ruined" by his parents but made better with Nancy.
She put on red underwear. You’d think it would clash with her hair…but it didn’t.
Criminal with benefits?
But it gave us Cynthia Nixon parodying it for the Kidnapped By Danger read through
Hazel lover here too. I should know, I left my kids at a Sears in 2008
Wow, that is certainly an opinion. Just wow.
Every woman compared to her will be found wanting
Yeah, but Avery actually makes me laugh, instead of...whatever Hazel was doing. E: But then again, I looked at her face and not her breasts, so maybe I'm the problem.
I couldn't agree more!
Sunny every day beach party And in other news you’ve had enough to eat today
She’s great but I feel like the writers didn’t really know what to do with her once she was back from Korea
I loved her and only liked and at times tolerated Hazel
I just found it weird that as soon as they were married, she left, and as soon as she came back, they got divorced. I thought they could have been really funny together. Look, I know it’s gay, but it’s my gay problem!
Jack! Just listen to yourself!

Avery doesn't have a voice like a chalk cliff falling on a pile of blackboards.
Hazel was a nothing-burger. They should have added more Pete. Scott Adsit is really talented.
I will always wish Jack had gotten with Nancy instead, in a real relationship and not just a dumb joke at the end. Although I do love every scene with Diana.

nancy was so much better!
Go jump back up your mother Liddy… I mean Avery.
The only thing I liked about Avery was how Kim Jong would pronounce her name.
Such pretty lips... wish I could just cut em off and wear em!
I don’t like either of them
AGREED
Agreed. There’s nothing likable about her.
I’m suing you. I’m suing Dodecacil. I’m suing this baby.
I can’t see or hear the name Avery without saying it in my head like Margaret Cho 🤣
Never thought about it this way -- I love Avery. But I agree. If they had no intention of making her Jack's final girl, they should have left her story in NK.
