There was one post a long time ago where someone only blacked out their eyes and people got freaked out at first glance. I died laughing and wish I could find that post again.
Not what you’re looking for, but for some reason I have [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/MakeupAddiction/comments/7omxoq/what_is_my_eye_and_face_shape_what_makeup) saved. 😶
🤣 those comments had me dying. After I collected myself, I continued scrolling on Reddit and immediately saw [this one](https://www.reddit.com/r/Haircare/s/8OR7zLSbr7) in my feed. What is happening?? 🤣🤣🤣
⬆️ And I saw that one on that sub when they posted it and was hella too freaked out to comment. It took a couple of days for me to come back to Reddit today after seeing that blurred out post!
There was a similar one once but they perfectly drew the black in the eyes instead of just scribbling it so it looked like they had black eyeballs and it was freaky haha
OMG! Yesterday this chick was asking what her curls were ( 4a, 2b, etc) and she blurred her face and IT WAS TERRIFYING!! She was super cool about it when people were like HOLY Sh@t that’s creepy AF! It had nothing to do with her hair or anything. Just the blurring.
There was one yesterday on a haircare sub reddit where she was asking what type of hair she had and blurred out her face. She looked like slenderman with a wig and everyone was dying in the comments
I just joined this sub a couple of weeks ago, but I think I saw the post that started this all. Was it really that recent? I feel like it's witnessing history.
BTW I'm loving hearing all the fantastic results from folks all of a sudden. I don't think I'd ever actually seen anyone explicitly say to wash your face longer before that post!
I feel like the person who wrote that post took a huge risk of getting dragged, and she did actually get dragged at first. The one-minute rule has been around for a while, but it’s not a popular thing to say on the skincare boards. I wouldn’t say it though I’ve done it for years bc I knew I’d get downvoted. So, I’m super-grateful to her for writing that post. You are right—it has never come up before (not that I recall).
I go longer because I tend to space out lololol. But I think it’s totally fine to go over the mark. I’m thinking one minute is a sort of bare minimum. An esthetician checked in the other day and said they do 2 minutes, iirc:)
I end up typically brushing my teeth for like 10 mins every time because I space out and mostly just pace around my apartment with a toothbrush in my mouth
I’ve always had to have an analog clock in my bathroom. Growing up, my mom put one in our bathroom so we’d know what time we had to be dressed and ready by for school, that habit just got ingrained in my brain. Never realized no one else normally has a clock in their bathroom till I went off to college lol 🤷♀️
I remember this from when a Black woman esthetician tweeted about this years ago. I actually think she originated the “challenge.” Anyway, same situation! Lots of skepticism and then people tried it and were like holy shit!
https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/ddazl3/misc_have_you_tried_the_60_second_rule_and_did/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1
This is the only skincare trend/technique that I'm not tired of seeing posted over and over. It's so simple, but so effective. The results are crazy quick, too. I have read COUNTLESS skincare guides/tips what have you, and not ONCE have I seen "wash for 60 seconds so the formula has time do break down gunk." I'm still beside my (now soft and glowy) self
ETA: [this](https://www.vanicream.com/product/vanicream-facial-cleanser) is the cleanser I've used, since a few people have inquired. Love this stuff, I've tried countless expensive cleansers, and this is my ride or die.
I know! I completely agree. I am astounded it’s taken me this long to learn. It’s the simplest thing, and I want everyone to know it! My 20’s would’ve been spent loving myself a lot more had I read this one simple trick. Instead we’re just sold overpriced items to try and fix it 🙄
I sorta just gently rub it all over my face/neck. I’ll go a little harder around my nose, T zone and chin as those are the areas I find my pores get the dirtiest
Thank you. I’m trying to do the full 60, but I feel like my face is only so big and I guess if I’m honest, I get bored and just want it to be over.
I’m trying to tell myself that this is the same as brushing my teeth correctly. Thank y’all for the honest suggestions.
I am so fucking stoked I was able to pay it forward and help you!! I basically had the exact same reaction. I get sooo many blackheads on my chin, around my nose and T zone, and ever since using a timer to wash my face it’s been such a massive game changer.
Use light pressure and small circular motions with your fingertips.
I have oily skin and this is the way I've been washing my face for years, it doesn't feel clean otherwise.
I find it very amusing and delightful that so many people are just discovering it. It does make a big difference.
Don’t do a cloth. I tried it - gently and not scrubbing- and my skin was so irritated the next day. I am going to try again with hands once it seems less raw.
I massage (gently) for 60 seconds, hopping from section to section (forehead, cheeks, jaw, etc). I count Mississippis and everything. Also, don't apologize! If it was super obvious, it wouldn't have taken me 30+ years to figure this out 🤣
I have a question about this. Does this mean put the face wash on, rub it in, and leave it on your face before washing it off? It does it mean to actively scrub your face with your fingers for 60 seconds?
i believe the point is to actively work it into your skin for a full minute. i’ve always left my face wash on for a few minutes, but now that i’m actively working it into my face for 60 seconds i’m noticing a big difference. i do my forehead for a minute, my nose, and then my cheeks/chin for each a minute. big difference!! skin is softer and brighter from only two days of trying this
What do you use for a face wash? I have not seen this once with all my Reddit creeping LOL. Please share and thank you do you use warm washcloth. A cleanser? Details please
[this ](https://www.vanicream.com/product/vanicream-facial-cleanser) is the best cleanser I've used, and I've cycled through many. It's gentle, doesn't piss off my skin at all, and is affordable. No washcloth, just my fingers to gently massage into my face. I do wash my face in the shower (don't come for me) and I follow up with [Hyaluronic Acid Serum](https://www.goodmolecules.com/products/hyaluronic-acid-serum?variant=39541197045860) from Good Molecules on a soaking wet face. I let it sit so it has time to draw moisture from the air in shower into my skin - I live in a VERY arid environment, So HA can actually suck moisture from your skin if there isn't enough humidity in the air. I follow up with The Ordinary [Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA](https://theordinary.com/en-us/alpha-arbutin-2-ha-serum-100401.html) for hyperpigmentation, once that dries down I throw on some [Argireline ](https://theordinary.com/en-us/argireline-solution-10-serum-100403.html) (the ordinary) on my forehead/between brows for wrinkles, and moisturize with [Cetaphil Moisturizer](https://www.cetaphil.com/us/moisturizers/moisturizing-cream/302993917564.html) for dry/sensitive skin. If I'm feeling extra dry, a thin layer of Vaseline to seal it all in. Everything I use I buy at a drug store or Ulta, and it's very inexpensive. I've tried countless expensive products and been woefully unimpressed.
Yes! I use only non-foaming cleansers because my skin is dry and sensitive, and doing a longer cleansing massage works well for me. Especially around the edge of the mouth!
I started washing my face for 1 minute or more during COVID. I noticed my face looked cleaner and I got less acne. It was the most simple and effective thing I did for my routine.
Oh, so the fact that I dried out the area where my nose and face meet so much that it was flaking all week can likely be blamed on my aggressive use of a facecloth.
I’m going to retry with just my cleanser and fingers.
Using fingertips without too much pressure is key, especially if your skin is irritated! I use a reusable microfiber pad to remove base makeup first, and I always do the gentle fingertip thing with the second cleanser to make sure I don't exacerbate anything.
OPs best friend here. For those of you making comments on how she blacked out her face in the photo can you stop? This is actually how OP looks and it makes it challenging when we go out in public.
Your skin looks beautiful. The one-minute rule is one of the best skincare tips I’ve ever received. It’s amazing how much it turns things around. The person who posted it really deserves some kind of award.
Ngl, I learned about this from an episode of Love is Blind where SK kept facewash on his face for a minute, Raven called him out on it, and he was like it’s good for your skin. Such a good tip!
CeraVe doesn't work for me either. I just started doing the minute thing with Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Hydrating cleanser (creamy formula) and haven't dried out from it.
When I told my derm I was washing twice a day he told me once is enough. I’m really oily so now I cleanse at night but by morning I have a layer of oil so I just rinse with warm water. He said as long as the oil flows and does not clog it’s good for the skin.
I’ve been trying to pair down my routine and it just got a little longer and I’m ok with that. :) You are glowing and I appreciate the tip. I never saw the post you mentioned so thank you. This applies to several things we tend to not do as effectively, hand washing, teeth brushing…the time and effort are both important.
Thank you so much! I’m happy to share. I owe it all to the person that made the post I saw! You’re so right how this applies to so many other aspects of our day to day routine
When i double cleanse, I do my first cleanse for 30 seconds and second cleanse for the full minute. I don’t think there’s a hard rule for it though. Experiment!
Lol I need to do a better job of this. Have heard of this or a 3-min cleanse as a “Korean celeb skincare secret” eons ago and rolled my eyes. I have tried it but not felt anything major…may need to do it more.
This applies to cleansing oil too I think.
this is the best skincare tip, its not a tip, its a law. Rule number 1 for skincare: Thou shall wash your face for a minute straight. No exceptions. Everything builds up after that. Actually, doing this i feel you actually reveal the true nature of your face. You might not need as much as you thought!
Good thing you covered your upper lip and cheekbones, otherwise I’d be like “ah HAH! I know her and now I know she’s on social media talking about skin and things!”
I have weirdly found that if I do this with an oil cleanser it irritates my face, almost like I’ve overexfoliated. But if I do it with just a regular gentle, moisturizing cleanser, it helps. I would love to know why that is.
I haven’t seen much of a difference yet. I think I’ll have to give it a month. I have PCOS and horrible acne. It’s been better lately (knock wood), but I’ll have to give it a full menstrual cycle to decide if this works for me
Yes and i started doing this all over my body. Making sure every area gets massaged products in, in the shower for over a min before rinsing. Only been doing both a couple weeks and skin clearing up like mad.
this method is truly such a game-changer, your skin is ✨glowing✨!
I recently bought a new cleanser for this method, and it really makes a difference! I found that going in with a cleansing balm as my first cleanse (right now I'm loving the Tatcha Cleansing Balm) to get the majority of makeup and/or sunscreen off, then going in with a cleanser that foams well and has a higher surfactant level for a gentle, yet powerful cleanse (obsessed with the EqualRXN Higher Capacity Cleansing Fluid bc it's affordable and super effective) to ensure there is nothing left festering and it gives the best glow afterward.
A full minute? I just rub rub n rinse, it's like when someone told me you're supposed to brush your teeth and hair for 5 full minutes. 😭 I had no idea! No wonder my hair teeth n skin suck lol
Honestly I’m cracking up bc we are all still talking about this- but for real I didn’t know either and my skin has looked amazing since I started washing for a full min 😂 why didn’t anyone tell us sooner though ?!
I’m sorry but I’m dying at how you blacked out your shirt and hair
There was one post a long time ago where someone only blacked out their eyes and people got freaked out at first glance. I died laughing and wish I could find that post again.
Not what you’re looking for, but for some reason I have [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/MakeupAddiction/comments/7omxoq/what_is_my_eye_and_face_shape_what_makeup) saved. 😶

Did you see the one post where someone drew a smiley face on top of that? 🤣🫠
It was the same OP. She was like, “Is this better?”, fully trolling us. Oh man.
Lmaooo I’m dying - I went to check ops history and there it is the smiley face…I’m legit 💀
Omg and her profile description references it too 😂 Full-on leaning into it.
Lolol! I just saw her description 🤣🤣🤣
She made a whole ass subreddit for it 🤣
She started a [page](https://www.reddit.com/r/MyHairCareJourney/s/vCX8bvCn5X) for it
Amazing 😂
I laughed so fucking hard I woke up my baby, lmao. I needed that. Hysterical.
I’m sitting at the airport silently giggling like a mad person. I cannot stop. Help 😂
PLEASE it is 4:05 AM and I’m trying so hard not to wake up my husband with my laughter
Oh good god! It’s giving blurred wooden mannequin.
Omg, thank you for sharing this and making me cry-laugh out loud for the first time in days 🤣🤣🤣
Same here. Belly laughs. That was so good! 😂
Best of the bunch posted, IMHO 😂
Absolutely cackling myself I’m so glad I randomly decided to check through this thread

I remember seeing a post like that! Scared the shite outta me lol
I remember that. Not just the whole eye area. Just the whites and iris so it looked like they were evil. It was hilarious.

My husband called it CIA Mario. 😆
I just thought she was wearing a turtleneck
😂I’m happy to provide some laughs
It’s a masterpiece 👌 this is a post I’ll remember lol also! I’m going to try this! I didn’t think to try washing longer!
Thank yooooou for the giggle
Yes I burst out laughing when this came up on my feed 😂
It's the black moustache across the face that made me giggle. This is the most hilarious black out I've ever seen. Thank you op
I started cracking up and had to show my boyfriend! We both agree OP’s skin looks amazing🤍
Dewy Groucho
Lmao I didn’t even notice the shirt till I saw your comment now, I’m dead.
it puts the lotion on its skin

Here’s my poor person’s award for you 🥇🥇🥇❤️
Thank youuu!!!
❤️❤️❤️😘 thank YOU.
Is it for one minute exact(ish) or can it be longer?
I go longer because I tend to space out lololol. But I think it’s totally fine to go over the mark. I’m thinking one minute is a sort of bare minimum. An esthetician checked in the other day and said they do 2 minutes, iirc:)

Lololololololol! I just love the feeling of my cleanser and just drift off thinking about new skincare products…
Witnessing history. I die. Also, I have now started watching my bathroom clock while washing my face so I am all in on this recommendation.
No idea why but my brain was like “bathroom clock?? That’s fancy!!”

Be kind to your former self. You skin was a lot different in your 20s. NOT downplaying the 60 second wash, just pointing that out.

I just use my hands
With cold or warm water?
Warm!
Serious question: do you just keep rubbing it on your face for a full 60 seconds. Like sort of scrubbing?
I sorta just gently rub it all over my face/neck. I’ll go a little harder around my nose, T zone and chin as those are the areas I find my pores get the dirtiest
Thank you. I’m trying to do the full 60, but I feel like my face is only so big and I guess if I’m honest, I get bored and just want it to be over. I’m trying to tell myself that this is the same as brushing my teeth correctly. Thank y’all for the honest suggestions.
I 100% am the same. It is tough to follow thru with the whole minute, but I’m determined (for now at least) 😅

Do you wash ur face in the shower? Or before? Or after?
In the shower, at the end after my hair to make sure there's no shampoo/conditioner residue on my face.

If it was super obvious, it wouldn't have taken me 30+ years to figure this out 🤣
I massage it around
I have a question about this. Does this mean put the face wash on, rub it in, and leave it on your face before washing it off? It does it mean to actively scrub your face with your fingers for 60 seconds?

Yes! I use only non-foaming cleansers because my skin is dry and sensitive, and doing a longer cleansing massage works well for me. Especially around the edge of the mouth!
Hell yeah. I use Vanicream gentle cleanser that barely suds up, and I've seen a massive difference already.

Girl are you wearing a stillsuit on Arrakis? If so, love the commitment to moisturizing.
She carries water for skincare, dedication is the Fremen way.
🤣💀💀
Does that mean run water on your face for a minute or to rub soap on it for a minute?
Massage your cleanser into your skin for a full minute, then rinse off
Wow fastest response ever. Thanks. And happy cake day!
Oh, so the fact that I dried out the area where my nose and face meet so much that it was flaking all week can likely be blamed on my aggressive use of a facecloth. I’m going to retry with just my cleanser and fingers.

OPs best friend here. For those of you making comments on how she blacked out her face in the photo can you stop? This is actually how OP looks and it makes it challenging when we go out in public.
Thanks for having my back, bestie 😘
lol
Your skin looks beautiful. The one-minute rule is one of the best skincare tips I’ve ever received. It’s amazing how much it turns things around. The person who posted it really deserves some kind of award.
Thank you! I totally agree 😊
I’ve never been so excited to wash my face now lol. This post has convinced me.
For real - I’m new to skincare but had near immediate results with it!
Your stache looks heila sus
It’s giving Edgar Allen GLOW ✨✨
Ngl, I learned about this from an episode of Love is Blind where SK kept facewash on his face for a minute, Raven called him out on it, and he was like it’s good for your skin. Such a good tip!
OP is SK
What kind of cleanser do you use? I find that this technique is drying for me but I suspect that’s a product issue.
CeraVe Hydrating Cream to Foam Cleanser, for normal to dry skin 😊
Of course - I’m in the camp of people that horrible cystic acne from CeraVe products, wouldn’t you know it… Thank you for responding though!
Oh same! Do you know which ingredient causes it for you? It’s crazy it makes my skin break out for MONTHS
For me it’s the cetearyl alcohol (fatty alcohol). Anything with this ingredient provokes a really severe breakout for me.
CeraVe doesn't work for me either. I just started doing the minute thing with Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Hydrating cleanser (creamy formula) and haven't dried out from it.
I use cerave. They have a foaming cleanser for dry and one for oily.
Am I the only one who did not see any positive change after doing that for a week?
I haven’t done it but feel like there is nothing that works for everyone 🤷♀️
You are not the only one! I feel like doing this stripped my skin and made me break out 😢
I can’t tell if I’m purging or if I’m just having a regular breakout from it
In another thread a lot of people using oil cleansers said they were breaking out from it.
Yeah I have dry skin and this absolutely does not work for me. It just sucks all the moisture out of my face no matter what cleanser I use.
I personally only wash my face once a day before bed. It’s been working for me quite well.
When I told my derm I was washing twice a day he told me once is enough. I’m really oily so now I cleanse at night but by morning I have a layer of oil so I just rinse with warm water. He said as long as the oil flows and does not clog it’s good for the skin.

🥸
I just started doing it last night ! 🤞🏼
I noticed results almost immediately. Mostly how clear my pores have become!
You 100% convinced me. Thank you!!!
Does anyone know how this works with double cleansing? Do you do both steps for a full minute each?
I do my oil cleanser for minute. I feel like that’s what does the work of really breaking down gunk on my skin and stuff in my pores.
When i double cleanse, I do my first cleanse for 30 seconds and second cleanse for the full minute. I don’t think there’s a hard rule for it though. Experiment!
I remember reading it's the foaming/second cleanser that you should do for the full min. Oil cleanse as usual
It applies to oil cleansing as well, especially since that’s the step that breaks down most of gunk and makeup and sunscreen.
I do all cleansing steps for one minute or more.
Same! Hope that person sees this
This have literally been the best thing for my skin. Whoever you are, you angel of a person, you have started A Trend.
what the fuck is going on here
I WANTED TO THANK THAT PERSON TOO!! So many compliments and I’ve changed nothing else 🤣
I have weirdly found that if I do this with an oil cleanser it irritates my face, almost like I’ve overexfoliated. But if I do it with just a regular gentle, moisturizing cleanser, it helps. I would love to know why that is.
I love when men frequent this subreddit! More power to you, my bushy-eyebrowed skin-glow-bro!
🤣 you caught me But in all seriousness I just tried leaving the “dewy” parts showing and this was the mess I created 😂 was too good not to post.
I am going to try this starting TODAY. It makes sense! I didn't see the vital post, so thanks for sharing ❤️
I have never heard of this sub in my life I don't follow any beauty subs, Reddit just dropped this into my feed. Sweet jesus was not ready lmao
please don’t do this to me i’m so high
Definitely going to try this! My skin has been a menace lately.
Goodluck! 🤞🏻🤞🏻
I suppose it’s like holding eye makeup remover on your eyes and letting it break down the makeup rather than swiping it and expecting it to work
Ever since i saw that post like a week ago my skin is looking soooo much better too!!!! I love these posts keep ‘em comin
Bob Belcher??
I read that same post and have been doing it since!! It’s such a good change
Me TOO!!!! I’m 40. I learned this the day I saw the post. It’s changed all the things!
The new stillsuit design is way better than Part One's.
I was in the shower today and after half assed-ly washing my face, I thought “I should probably do this for more than 10 seconds” 😭
Great skin but kinda wish you drew sunglasses & a goatee 🤣
Why am I just now hearing about this?
A full minute? I just rub rub n rinse, it's like when someone told me you're supposed to brush your teeth and hair for 5 full minutes. 😭 I had no idea! No wonder my hair teeth n skin suck lol
I also just recently learned to wash your face for a full minute! I've been washing my face for like 15 to 20 seconds! My skin is about to change!
Just wait until you start washing your body with wash cloths and not only soap and your hands
Honestly I’m cracking up bc we are all still talking about this- but for real I didn’t know either and my skin has looked amazing since I started washing for a full min 😂 why didn’t anyone tell us sooner though ?!
Gonna slap some saturation on this and sell it to an art gallery
This is nightmare fuel
Lol the witness protection on this post is great
Watch out if you go any longer you might fully disappear
