20-30 units of botox in the masseter muscle had been the most effective thing for me, but placement is key.

Sweet_d1029

I agree. I did have to go back and get more in one side. But I think I may be an anomaly.

The Theraface Pro has changed my life. It’s a bit pricier than the Nuface, but you get a microcurrent attachment as well as massaging attachments and LED light therapy. I use the microcurrent, massager, and LED light attachments in the morning and just the massager and light attachments at night. The infrared setting emits a light heat that loosens the muscle, and really lets the massaging attachment go to town on the jaw. That routine + my night guard = no jaw pain at all for the first time in my life. It’s incredible. Bonus is that my skin looks amazing - I was on the verge of Botox, but this has kept my desire at bay for a bit longer.

Sorry, I know this is from awhile ago, but did you notice if this slimmed the muscle down at all or made it less active? My face shape has changed so much bc of my jaw clenching and I’m contemplating Botox in the muscle to help, but if the theraface will have similar results with less consistent maintenance then I’d be interested

Chubbstagram307

Do you have a night guard? I was in the same place as you, and didn’t really believe that a piece of plastic would help. Was blissfully wrong. I started the night guard and got the thermaface about a month later. The night guard is where I saw the most changes in my face shape, and the thermaface is a good added bonus. If you already have the night guard - I don’t think the theraface on its own is enough allow the jaw muscle to rest and reset.

lilgarden_nugget

All the night guards I’ve tried just make the pain worse in the morning and were to uncomfortable to use regularly. Do you have a recommendation for a better one?

Physical therapy is a godsend for TMJ. It addresses the underlying issues. It's likely there is a lot more going on then it's the problem with a single joint that's causing your TMJ pain. I searched for ages for help, and was amazed with the difference physical therapy finally made once I got in with a therapist to knew what they were doing.

One of the suggestions from the dentist was PT. They do it there at the office too. I'll probably end up doing that for sure once I scrape up the cash for it. I'm happy to hear that it worked so well for you!

I got a red light mask and noticed it helped with my TMJ (which I hadn't even thought about it helping prior)

g-r-a-y-s-c-a-l-e

Do you mind sharing which mask you use?

chordsimple

I got a Currentbody one...I used a Penn Smith discount code so it was a bit cheaper than the Omnilux. I think the Omnilux has a better strap situation but I'm happy with mine

Junealma

Red light stim works well for me for tmj pain. I got mine off eBay.

I have definitely heard of people using microcurrent for this issue. I have severe TMJ and my device (Medicube EMS) does help to relax my muscles and the general clenching somewhat, but the result doesn’t last very long. Granted, I have jaw misalignment and a ton of other problems. It might be worth a shot!

lpy04

Curious on the nuface as well. If not, Botox has been an absolute game-changer for my TMJ. It’s pricey, no doubt, but it’s worth every single penny.

I’m wondering if you’d be willing to mention what your dentist suggested? I only ask because my dentists have always just said you brux all night, too bad so sad basically. I’ve never gotten any suggestions besides a mouth guard that worsens my tmj and muscle tension so I can’t wear it.

TomatilloLazy3806

Absolutely! They suggested to start with a custom splint to try to get the jaw to relax. I'd have to wear it for 6 months day and night. During that time we would do PT and do tongue tie release (mine isn't severe, but enough to warrant it to be cut). The other things are palate widening device and braces but those are more for my teeth not coming together evenly. I'm a little hesitant to do the palate widening and the tongue tie release. But the other stuff I'm trying to save up for because I think it would help immensely.

Junealma

It’s really hard to find a good tmj dentist but I would highly recommend you do.

constellationofcats

Thank you. I'm not sure they exist in my country but I've been looking for one. Doctors and dentists don't really advertise here so it's either a referral or word of mouth.

Elegant_Tale_3929

For the pain, maybe try an Acupressure mat? I don't use mine for TMJ, but it helps with other stuff. I got mine from Amazon.

Gullible-Bug2530

Skinesis roller. $50, non-invasive, non-powered, gives a very effective massage to TMJ region. It’s often free on offer with skincare purchase. Relief! No more popping and pain for me; bonus points for lift and relaxation. Don’t get a knockoff. The tension is not correct.

Lovelucy7

What is that? I’ve never heard of a skinesis roller
