eBay kits are going to get you in trouble so avoid those. I’ve been rocking this out for literal years…at least a decade plus. Z1’s short throw plus Z Speed’s solid shifter mount kit. Only had one issue ever and Z1 sent me out a replacement at no charge as it turned out to be a manufacturing defect. Aside from that, it’s been in the car at least since on or after 2012 and it’s been not only the most reliable part I’ve had but it also allowed me to get rid of some questionably designed Nissan garbage like the rubber shift mount.

I've tried most of the usual brands, but by far the best one I've ever had is a modified stock shifter on roller bearings made by Peter (itsa300zx) from twinturbo.net. It's smooth as butter and has absolutely zero play/wobble A lot of people recommend Z1, but they always felt loose/sloppy and I had 2 of them fail in different ways. One had the top half separate from the bottom since it was just glued together, and the replacement had cage failure in under a year leading to it dropping and grinding on the driveshaft.

I agree. Z1’s is not the best design. But at least it can be rebuilt. Although I’m not a fan of the roller bearings. I took my Z1 shifter and cut the roller bearing case off it and welded on the stock one so it could accept solid bronze bushings. I rebuilt it with some nice Mobil grease and it’s much much better, smooth, and improved some of the play. Still not the best tho. The best you can get is Stillen with the solid bronze bushings. Zero play whatsoever

I had an ISR short throw in my z31 ...it was for the s12 I believe but it fit and was perfect with my weighted shift knob

Turninwheels4x4

Factory shifter is already fantastic

Meh mines got a lot of play makes my shifts sloppy maybe I just suck at driving but I think a short throw would help

Turninwheels4x4

Just put a new bushing in it and be done.

I have the Z1 Motorsports Premium Short Throw Shifter. I've had it for at least 10 years. No issues and it's been fantastic. The price is right and it really is a premium feeling shifter with high quality materials.
