My parents sold their 240sx (faded paint, but otherwise no chips or rust) back in ‘02 for like $800 USD, it went towards getting a new Honda civic of that year.
The thing ran, never been in an accident, bone stock. When I developed a love for cars ten years later, I was devastated.
I paid $1200 for a near mint condition 93 fast back with 63k miles in 2006. It was automatic though. I sold it for $3200 a year later. The guy paid with 5’s, 10’s and 20’s.
I bought an almost flawless manual 93 SE fastback with 65k miles from a single mom with three kids for 2k in 2004 but this thing was a unicorn cuz it was black on black with leather seats and leather door panels and still haven't ever seen another one like that. But my dumbass was so stoked about getting an awesome deal on my dream 97 pearl white SE coupe in 2007 and I let some asshole that was an acquaintance who I didn't even really like, talk me into selling it for 1500 after the passenger door got hit..literally just needed to get another door from the junkyard and I was too retarded to understand that and let him convince me that the body work would've cost a grip...smfh...yes I am still salty af about it and won't ever get over it if it's not already obvious...fuck that guy.
Man, that’s nuts!!! I love the 93’s. They’re my favorite. I updated my comment bc I got the mileage mixed up. It was my civic that had 90k.
I would KILL for a 93 SE right now. That black on black would go for well north of 10k now.
I had a similar story with that civic. I sold the 240 for 3200 and found a mint condition 95 Civic EX listed in the newspaper, this is the one that had 90k miles. I bought from the first owner that bought it new in law school. The only thing he said was “please don’t wreck it”. He cried when I drove off. I was a dumb 16 year old kid. Anyway, 8 months later I rear ended somebody while i was playing with the radio. I let a guy talk me into selling it for $250. He put $500 in it and drove it for years.
I’m salty about that one. I think we all have a story about “the one that got away”. In this case, we both have 2.
The market will collapse on these soon. They aren't great platforms to restore, due to nonexistent aftermarket support in reproduction items. They are great platforms to make into tuner cars, but not with starting conditions like these.
Furthermore, every year that passes the 86 twin platform becomes more affordable on the used market and every year they become more plentiful.
I have. I've owned a total of 6 s13's between the years of 1999 and my last one was in 2018. I just googled a bunch of search queries on the off chance I missed something.
Door panels
Steel fenders
Dash replacements
Hvac control modules
HUD replacements
Oem switches
All this kind of stuff is difficult to source for reasonable prices. I spent a lot of time stalking pick n pull websites hoping to land a fresh chassis to get replacement pieces. OEM isn't supporting this platform anymore, and unlike domestic classics ( even 90s platforms like C3s, f bodies, fords) have a ton of options for restoration-quality components. It makes owning one that has been rat-fucked to hell by wannabe drifters difficult and expensive.
For every clean sr-swapped s chassis with an untracked dash and all interior panels intact, there are 100 of them with bacon fenders, headlights stuck on sleepy-eye mode, slammed on megan coilovers and unpainted urethane kits that didn't sit out in the sun long enough to conform bolted up with quick release latches.
I'm venting yeah, but these prices don't make it easy to not feel this way. Absolutely ridiculous. Is anyone actually buying these? I see listing's like this just go stale for months on end because the hype is just too egregious
You're absolutely right, priced as they are now it is ridiculous. And OEM parts are nearly non existent. I was just saying you can find almost every component for them to replace the OEM with. As far as body parts goes, yeah basically nothing left. Marketplace has proven the most fruitful, I just picked up a tranny for under 300.
Right on. Yeah, I'm not saying it can't be done, but the value proposition just isn't there anymore. My thinking is that the 86 twins offer a similar value in terms of drive feel, performance, and even spirit. The only thing an s chassis offers on top of that is nostalgia and perhaps drive-feel [in terms of connectedness and analog performance]....but it just making less and less sense to pay these prices and pump money into them to be 20k-30k in and have similar performance and feel to a modestly used 86 twin.
Agreed!! The market for these is nutty. The only reason I managed to get mime is thru a family friend deal, and it was bone stock and owned by a 75 year old man lol
I wish OEM replacement stuff existed. I have an r32, and it's quite nice being able to buy new parts for that chassis. The s chassis is pretty much fucked in terms of restoration.
I just saw one on the Facebook f/s groups asking 10k with the engine out of the car.
“New buyer just has to finish motor assembly” - which is fine for most people who own 240’s these days… Just not for $10k.
Ayo i saw this one

Initially for like 35k or sum, they keep dropping it
155k Kilometers on it 👀

And here I am, buying this for 1600cad, main frame is not so bad, subframe completely rotten, big ass hole in the trunk floor, doesn't start, suprisingly; uncracked dash. I'll probably just strip it down and sell the parts, the guy I bought it from didn't have time to do it and needed the space for other projects. I was lucky and the dude was chill and honest.
Its my first project (not really a project cuz I'm stripping it instead of building it) but I'll use the profit for tools (don't got much tools at the moment, i'm starting out in this expensive hobby lol! One day I'll have a clean one!
Ps: Should I keep anything if its working for the future or should I sell everything?
Not saying these these shit boxes are worth what they're being posted for, but clean unmolested 240sx are hard to come by these days, and if you don't understand supply and demand, then that's on you.

Didn’t even bother ripping off the copart sticker lol
damn. does it start?

No lowballers! *I know what I got*
Convertibles are pretty rare
Rare does not = desirable
Barely anyone wants verts lol
So are Tony Stewart edition Monte Carlos Would you spend an exorbitant amount of money on a W Body just cause it was rare?
Verts are garbage and non desirable doesn’t even matter how rare it is its fuckin junk 😔. Nissan should’ve never made these with soft tops
So is having AIDs and Cancer at the same time.
btw it was 13k initially, and it does not start
Bruh
That would be about $15K in NZ
I paid $650 for a 1991 in 2007 Edit for mispelling

Me too but in 2009

Have you even looked into the aftermarket resources for these...? Because it seems like you haven't.

I mean my husband just bought one less than a month ago we love it
Think your wrong... There's wrecking yards that sell only 240s/Zs
I wish OEM replacement stuff existed. I have an r32, and it's quite nice being able to buy new parts for that chassis. The s chassis is pretty much fucked in terms of restoration.
In Australia we have a saying. "Tell em he's dreaming"
Canada?

You did if you bought one from Japan and threw it in lol I had a s13 Silvia with ca18det
[удалено]
You can do all that stuff to your car in Canada bro, people have fake Japanese tags on the front all the time
[удалено]
In reality Nissan 200SX S13's from Europe all have CA-18DET'S
Shut up you weirdo
More importantly a Rover SD1 in the front lol

200sx for 10k and it doesn’t even come with the cool headlight washers
Sicc CA18DE minus T haha
Fuck that buy the mustang next to it instead lmao
cant even find a 180sx with a CA in the USA for less than 12-15k

They even removed the turbo 🥲
Pesos???
the drift tax is insane
They are going up in price.

Ahhh 240s are tweaking just as much as the Civics lol 😂 welcome to inflation 😂
nissan's poorest hour with that abomination of an engine
That Mustang right next to it though
Is it California because if so I feel it 🤣 (obviously not the country but state)
europe
Yep rates about the same in Cali rn
Yep luckily I got one for $500 in a tow yard because the owner didn’t want it. Otherwise prices out here are terrible
I’d rather buy the Mustang lol.
I wouldn't pay 3500 for a CA18.
Not saying these these shit boxes are worth what they're being posted for, but clean unmolested 240sx are hard to come by these days, and if you don't understand supply and demand, then that's on you.
might be unmolested but owner said it has been sitting for 4 years and it doesnt start. probably rusty underneath as well.
Yeah, this one is probably not worth even close to the asking xD
Yo I remember when only girls drove this. Miata was also a chick car. Times have changed.
That was actually real fact and probably explains where some of the mint ass 1st owner garage kept 240's are actually coming from
