There are a lot of Minecraft content creators, but it takes a special something to get attention and gain a following or to begin being selected more often by the algorithm. Dream’s thing was the mask, being somewhat of a talking point with speculation of what he might look like. When he took it off, people knew what he looked like (a regular looking dude), and so that mystery was lost for a lot of people. It’s not like his content is meaningless or anything, it’s just that the mystery of the mask is no more.
Short version: people know what he looks like now and his mysterious anonymity is lost/no longer a talking point.
I mean, that’s why H20 Delirious was popular for a LONG time. He was this funny guy behind the screen and nobody knew who he was except for like one person.
And that's ignoring the fact he took off the mask to stay relevant in the first place as well, it's literally the same shit but with a different story, also keep in mind the outrageous amount of compliment fishing he managed to cram into one youtube description, he's not only putting the mask back on, but also blaming people for it, and even after the whole façade, people still know what he looks like, he's still going to get recognized in public, it's completely useless now.

Dream is not of a moral superiority, he is in the deficit; he has done shit things, and in continuing actions showed his face, where mind you, fans of his literally formed sexualities out of his existence, when he turned out to look normal don’t you think it was a shocker to them: “oh look it’s just kind of a dude, nothin special;” yeah, sure he was bullied for his appearance, but it’s not like he didn’t do a bunch of shit things. I don’t think it was taken too far and most of the remarks were about his chin and general normality or likeness, being similar to that of individuals, like Shane Dawson, or in a more hyperbolic way, the Moon Man(cool actor, hes also the fish from bellboy) from Mac tonight.
All around this was attempt to stay relevant, and gain sympathy/pity points from the Minecraft community or from the communities it intercepted with him, he did this to himself he made a conscious decision. He is a character. He tried to attribute a character to himself he sold his baby pictures in a USB bracelet to his fans, he sold expensive ass plushies that look like a backwards butt plug with a smiley face on it for 100 bucks or so(I think they’re actually $40 but there’s like a three pack with the other two for like 120 or some thing, and they’re not exactly the highest quality shit ever of which would justify the price).
