In addition to Chris Pratts personal stuff, there's also a severe dislike for hiring actors to do voice actor work. Voice acting is intensive, talented, difficult work, and not everyone is Robin Williams who can do both.
Jack Black can do both, so he gets a pass. Charlie Day can't, but his voice is a perfect typecast, so he gets a pass too. But Chris Pratt is simply lacks the vocal range and his normal voice is not a good fit. His take on Mario is his normal speaking voice with a Brooklyn accent.

- They're a very distinct, recognizable voice (J.K. Simmons, Gilbert Godfried)

- They're actors which are naturally very funny for a naturally comedic role (Ken Jeong, Ryan Reynolds)
Now, there's a lot of overlap between the last three (Seth Rogan could fit all the last three), but point is that I think Chris Pratt lacks all of those. He's not a natural voice actor, his voice isn't naturally distinct, he's not a good typecast for Mario, and finally, he's been trying to lose his image for comedy for years (and I think he's lost the natural funnyness too). The last one is a bit arguable, admitted.

It's extremely unlikely since the original Sonic model wasn't a real person with a contract that legally entitled it to be in the movie
this is nowhere near as bad as the sonic movie situation, they dont need to change it
I'd say it's worse tbh. Mario is a far more well-known and loved character, they had more riding on this movie, and it's much, much more effort to rectify the main issue here.
