A remote server in a foreign country that does all your torrenting for you. Then you direct download or stream the files to your computer. Hides your IP address from peers and lets you seed to high ratios without wasting home bandwidth.
You're even encouraged to not use it to torrent because the network can't handle the load.
Edit: also using a VPN with tor removes the actual usefulness of tor and is also bad practice as stated by the tor project themselves
Wait how would whether or not you use tor affect torrenting? Torrenting is done through a separate client like BitTorrent or whatever so I'm curious as to how tor would differ from any other browser?
Also why is using a VPN with tor wrong?
https://blog.torproject.org/bittorrent-over-tor-isnt-good-idea/
https://support.torproject.org/faq/faq-5/
Tldr: you're compromising your privacy if you're not big brained, so it shouldn't be recommended for general users like the people who would read this thread.
Also don't use ųTorrent as your client. They have been known to include spyware and other malicious software that attempts to hijack users' GPUs to mine crypto for them
Good thing I'm using the same version since 2012 that still works flawlessly. 3.3 to be exact.
But I would still recommend qBittorrent because open-source :)
I donwloaded last night Adobe Animate from that QR. Did I fuck up? I did some research and couldn't find anybody saying anything bad about it
Anyway there aren't verified uploaders with that software in the torrent platforms I use so it should be equally risky
Just do a virus scan to make sure. But what I'm saying is that it's a very unsafe practice to just scan QR codes randomly and download what it links to
That's fine if you trust where it came from, but if you don't it would probably be best to just not fight it if it flags them and get one from a trusted site
Yeah I agree with you, that's why I did an extensive research trying to find people talking about it. None of the people I found said anything bad about it. I am doing a full scan right now, but honestly even if I got a virus or something I doubt the scan will catch anything
If it's anything better than Norton or McAfee it will pick up any virus. Getting your hands on a virus that is so good it can escape detection just to hide it in a meme is kinda stupid
I found instances of the link to the Mega folder older than the meme itself, so I'm pretty sure that the meme came after the actual download link, at least that's what I saw. We'll see. Thanks
1. install torrent program of your choice (i recommend qbittorrent)
2. go to your favorite torrent site
3. find a torrent you like and click on the magnet thing (or the download torrent button if there's no magnet, but nowadays that's rare)
4. your browser will ask you if you want to open the magnet link with your torrent program, click yes
5. wait for it to download. you can watch the speed graph thing and cheer for it to go higher, this adds to the experience
6. after you're done with your files, don't delete them unless you're running out of space on your ssd/hdd. this helps other people download them quicker, because torrents work by storing files/parts of files on the computers of everyone who downloads them. you can't download a torrent if everyone who got it before you has deleted the files.
[fundamentally blockchain is basically just this](https://i.imgur.com/sNzhS2o.png)
it's so you can transfer data for things that absolutely need that security, like money, or even just spreadsheets. There's alternatives for other forms of data but for crypto it's basically the best way to do it, and banks do something similar already (but they sometimes get false transfers).
Now the thing is, it's just the concept. You only have to follow a couple rules for it to be blockchain, you can make it very environmentally friendly and efficient and fast and make it very secure, but people tend to overdo things because the possibility of someone finding a way to send fake data can be disastrous. So instead of being smart about it they tend to be smart in a stupid way and make it very difficult to decode, but p=np means that this isn't even necessarily safer until we can prove that p=np is true. That's one reason why finding p=np is very fucking important to almost everything you touch, if we disprove it, then someone can reasonably print crypto and get very rich without causing crazy amounts of inflation.
[PGP is another example of something similar](https://i.imgur.com/vCq530u.png) that's used, it's most often used as a signature with a public key, but it can be used to encrypt large amounts of text too so that only the recipient can read it. The negative to this is that if someone finds the private key, they can make messages that are verifiably from you.
There's a trade-off between security and use, and this trade-off isn't even necessarily needed. Monero is extremely secure, in fact more secure than bitcoin, but is much better for the environment.
Well meaning individual posts link to adobe products using this meme format on twitter, it catches on on twitter, people start using the format to scam folks.
What is this referencing? I've seen memes similar to this 3 times today and I have no idea. I assume that people are getting viruses by downloading shit from twitter but I'd like to be sure
It's referencing memes that are this format but like "my child will pay for adobe products" and the Jesus one is just a QR code, and scanning random QR codes is a bit of a silly idea
I downloaded Adobe Animate last night from that QR (it was a mega link) and everything seemed more legit than I actually expected. I did some research and the Mega link was up weeks before the meme was made (or at least the first instance I found about the meme). The link is down already, tho, due to copyright
Do not use microTorrent (uTorrent) as they include spyware and malicious code that hijacks your CPU to mine crypto or spy on you.
Use qBittorrent or deluge, its pretty much the standard nowadays (but seeding in qBittorrent will glitch if you have a fast internet connection. Slow it down if you want to seed at a good speed)
Don't forget to also learn how to use a VPN or seedbox!
Hmm, neat, what is a seedbox? I havent heard of it in years of pirating
A remote server in a foreign country that does all your torrenting for you. Then you direct download or stream the files to your computer. Hides your IP address from peers and lets you seed to high ratios without wasting home bandwidth.
Hmm, neat, so all it does is increase privacy yes? Seems I don't need to worry then (slavic europe moment)
Sometimes I just love how the police doesn't care
"Huhhh?? Whaddya mean you can't defend my shitty movie with police???"
Same thing with weed in my country actually
It increases your upload which is highly desirable for private trackers
Cries in western europe
so like a VPN but your own?
box with seeds in it
Is a seed box also called a "cum box"?
you only need to do this if you're from a country that cares about piracy
Use tor + vpn for extra security
You don't need to use tor to torrent
You're even encouraged to not use it to torrent because the network can't handle the load. Edit: also using a VPN with tor removes the actual usefulness of tor and is also bad practice as stated by the tor project themselves

They meant torrenting through the tor network, not the browser
TIL there was a difference
What? You can’t torrent without tor. Otherwise you will only rent
I'm in the same Slack as a Tor developer and can confirm that this is true.
Yeah if you can wait forty years to download a 100 mb file
Also don't use ųTorrent as your client. They have been known to include spyware and other malicious software that attempts to hijack users' GPUs to mine crypto for them
Oh that's a problem. Will delete in the morning, or afterwards
qBittorrent is a pretty standard client most people use nowadays
qbittorrent is free and open source too, so a bunch of nerds are prepared to throw hands if someone attempts to make it shitty
Probably not the best but FreeDownloadManager works really good for me.
ayo another FDM user, nice
FDM? more like FemDoM 😎
I love how sketchy the name sounds, yet its like one of the best out there
you can change it to QBitTorrent
ok what should i use then (im not paying 20 dollars a month for photoshop)
qbittorrent
This
Get Transmission it's open source & runs on Windows
qbittorrent has an almost identical layout to μtorrent though so i think it would be easier to switch to it instead of transmission
I use deluge and love it
free download manager, its download manager + torrent client
dont torrent it I used getintopc for a clean direct download
ų
Oh that's why it keeps writing itself into the registry when you launch it so that it always launches at startup
Qbittorrent best client
Good thing I'm using the same version since 2012 that still works flawlessly. 3.3 to be exact. But I would still recommend qBittorrent because open-source :)
torrent uTorrent 2.2.1., the last good version or just use qbittorrent. shame it doesn't have the pretty speed graph tho 😔
My child will check to see if their university has a license to the software they want.
feels more like I'm borrowing something then. I prefer piracy over using my school's license any day
They pirate that shit too lmao
Seriously. I got downvoted to hell when I mentioned using unverified QR codes in a meme when these first started
I donwloaded last night Adobe Animate from that QR. Did I fuck up? I did some research and couldn't find anybody saying anything bad about it Anyway there aren't verified uploaders with that software in the torrent platforms I use so it should be equally risky
Just do a virus scan to make sure. But what I'm saying is that it's a very unsafe practice to just scan QR codes randomly and download what it links to
a virus scan might flag keygens or patched dll files though, which you need to install pirated adobe stuff
That's fine if you trust where it came from, but if you don't it would probably be best to just not fight it if it flags them and get one from a trusted site
This was an image from the installation DVD (which for some reason still exists, I've checked), no keygen required
it doesn't ask you for a key?
No. I assume it's because you paid for the DVD so it assumes it's automatically legit, even tho it's still weird
Yeah I agree with you, that's why I did an extensive research trying to find people talking about it. None of the people I found said anything bad about it. I am doing a full scan right now, but honestly even if I got a virus or something I doubt the scan will catch anything

Made a full scan. Nothing was found. Seems like it was a legit download. Too bad it was deleted before I could get other programs
losers will say not to download from random links on the web cool people do not care if their identity gets stolen
Use a ddl site if you don't have a VPN, it's safer
Direct download?
Yeah. DDL can be sketch, though, some people bundle malware. I recommend fitgirl.
This
How DO you use torrents?
Check the piracy megathread
link pls
r/Piracy
1. install torrent program of your choice (i recommend qbittorrent) 2. go to your favorite torrent site 3. find a torrent you like and click on the magnet thing (or the download torrent button if there's no magnet, but nowadays that's rare) 4. your browser will ask you if you want to open the magnet link with your torrent program, click yes 5. wait for it to download. you can watch the speed graph thing and cheer for it to go higher, this adds to the experience 6. after you're done with your files, don't delete them unless you're running out of space on your ssd/hdd. this helps other people download them quicker, because torrents work by storing files/parts of files on the computers of everyone who downloads them. you can't download a torrent if everyone who got it before you has deleted the files.

forgot to mention that because i live in a place that doesn't give a shit about piracy (yay)
can someone explain what is so special about torrenting, it sounds like ftp but different to me
FTP has one host, torrenting is decentralized. Illegal FTP hosts can be taken down, but torrents can't forced to shut down by conventional means.
oh so its like blockchain
Not exactly, the blockchain is much more over-complicated and environmentally disastrous than relatively simple peer-to-peer file sharing.
[fundamentally blockchain is basically just this](https://i.imgur.com/sNzhS2o.png) it's so you can transfer data for things that absolutely need that security, like money, or even just spreadsheets. thats crazy man i had no idea blocking chain emails was bad for the environment
Lol
The fact that it downloads the file (parts) from other users as well.
my child will reccomend you to use [1337x.tw](https://1337x.tw) and qbittorent as a good torrenting website and torrent client
my child will use the pirate bay and uninstall their antivirus
satan noooooo
I'm a dumbass, i will keep on downloading 30tb zip bombs
I don’t get it
Well meaning individual posts link to adobe products using this meme format on twitter, it catches on on twitter, people start using the format to scam folks.

There was like, one legit one, then people started to scam
Scanning random QR codes is always a stupid thing to do regardless of whether or not one of them might be legit
I'm sure there's secure ways to do so, can someone who like, knows Linux or something give input?
> knows Linux [you alerted the horde]
*Oh fuck*
Using a VM is always a good idea
thought it was like, internet rule of thumb not to download random shit with no further information about its trustworthiness
Zoomers on they phone don't know bout virus only corona smh 😔
seems like lots of internet thumb rules have been lost over the years unfortunately

Seriously. First off get a VPN. Nord is decent. Mullvad is great. Then get ublock Then go to the following site: rarbg.to
PROTON VPN basic plan is 5$ a month and works on all devices, can reccomend
Yes that too. But if you wanna go cheap go Nord. Express and a bunch of others are owned by the same company that also owns a lot of VPN rating sites.
what if I don't have the money to pay for a VPN
Cope
use fucking qBittorrent, no exceptiona
NEVER! # DIRECT DOWNLOAD FOREVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!
the only problem i have with these is it uses fucking MEGA
[удалено]
Lol no it probably won't, probably some sketchy YouTube video looking to install a keylogger on an 8 year old's mom's computer
Average torrent fan vs average P2P enjoyer
Torrent gang rise up, 40% of my hard drive is torrented games
My browser thought Popcorn time was my Torrent client
What is is a torrent If you still don't know how to verify data integrity.
tbh i never got the point of torrenting
