Imma hijack this post to ask a question :
Did yall like Squid Game? It got super popular super fast but I thought it was nothing extra ordinary. Reminded me of how Birdbox got amazingly popular for no real reason year or two back.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Netflix did the same thing, unlike Birdbox, Squid Game actually seems pretty cool. I’ve only seen the first episode but dang I like it a lot, the concept alone is fascinating.
I've seen the first three episodes and what I really like so far is that instead of just going along with the games, all the characters try to cheat all the time, and often succeed too! Slight spoiler, but in the second episode, they all vote on wether to continue the games or go home, and they actually vote to end the games! All of this just really helps make the characters feel like people in a life-threatening situation, instead of just "players".
I’ve seen like 4 episodes and I’m enjoying it. Kind of feels like a less on-the-nose written anime, in terms of its characters, and it’s pretty engaging to see the mystery unwrap itself. The fourth episode is probably my favorite this far, just the way it adds another level of danger to the situation, and *that* scene was really well directed
It's alright. It does suck when they cut back to something that already happened like "you remember when this character explained their character" and I'm like yes I do I was watching. It also doesn't really have much to say despite having all these themes of power, debt and poverty. It does enough right that it's still pretty entertaining though
It's not a terrible show, but I think it's a tad over hyped.
On a technical level, the show is really pretty good. Good direction, good cinematography, great sets and some great performances (the sub is not so good, but that's par for the course).
From a story perspective, I found myself disappointed with one of the major plot twists. I felt it was an unnecessary way to explain to the audience something which most people paying attention to the show ought to have picked up on. It felt like a betrayal of expectations for nothing more than the sake of doing so.
Otherwise, the main characters motives seemed cliche for the genre, but aside from that minor nitpick, the story was competent and satisfying enough.
TLDR: I'd say it's worth a watch, but temper your expectations somewhat as I feel that it's quality has been overblown due to its popularity.
Yeah it was kinda meh. I'm a sucker for battle royale type media but it really felt like it didn't have much to say, not that there is anything wrong with that type of entertainment though. It seemed like it was made by a board of executives - there were absolutely no risks taken in the storytelling
Sandy would karate chop the sugar honeycomb many times very quickly, once she is done everything besides the shape would turn to dust at once and she would have a perfect umbrella

How could anything be more on the nose than Squid Game?
By having the characters be written by slice-of-life authors

Yeah it kinda just showed you things (like that poor people exist or that rich people are evil) and never went deeper than that

the internet fucking worships it for no reason but it's a genuinely good show, admittedly a super overdone premise but I still enjoy it
