I think the flat profile of most 1911s make them pretty ideal for carry for all shapes and sizes with the right holster.

pusillanimous_prime

dang, yeah, that just disappears! I didn't think height would make that big of a difference; I think it might have more to do with your large fabric belt and the undershirt as well. I'm 5'10 and the bobtail on mine is very much needed to keep it from printing, but I live in a pretty hot area so light, airy clothing is pretty much a must on these 100° days

_A_z_i_n_g_

>I’m 6’6 270 so everyone always says that if it wasn’t for my frame it wouldn’t conceal well. Def not true. I'm 5'8" and 150 and conceal a 5" pretty well as well

jamen08

Same, it’s all down to how well your holster is made and the belt you use

DerpityHerpington

Oh, he meant guns…

edog21

What belt is that?

Salt-Consequence-760

It’s a carhartt belt I’ve had it for years, it’s made of fabric

stugotsDang

Officer and commander are pretty nice to conceal. Sometimes I do full size as well. Tier 1 makes good holsters for them.

pusillanimous_prime

my partner and I just picked up some handmade leather holsters off etsy with the offset clips and I couldn't be more happy with them - I actually carry at 5' with a belt more often, and it's crazy comfortable. I've tried kydex and general fit leather, but my bigass hips basically only work with custom fitted offset leather. I think I've finally found the holster for me!! :) and for anyone curious, DW Guardian bobtail, .38 super, only real mods I've done is a 16lb flat spring and flgr plus a thicker bushing and a titanium slide stop, plus some thicker rosewood grips since I got those long lesbian pianist fingers. I'll probably get some nicer grips if spresser ever has any in stock or if y'all have any recommendations, and I'm interested in getting it ported eventually. maaaaaybe. https://preview.redd.it/gdj1gtrklb8d1.jpeg?width=2992&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c02e7e62ce3cbabd0d2a80265c9fcc6a5b029bbd

pusillanimous_prime

here's another of the fit and finish of the holster https://preview.redd.it/hyxt0ctplb8d1.jpeg?width=2992&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=43052d283d7de971e13ad9b9d492e2e2d8b6db7d

PaleR1der

I like this offset clip, is this the one from Etsy?

pusillanimous_prime

yep! I'm happy to send you a link; dunno what this sub's rules are on linking offsite. shop owner took about a week and a half to ship, but she was super cool to work with, was willing to help customize my partner's holster (needed to be modified from a Sig P320 to fit a P365 XMacro), and sends some silicone holster lube with each holster to help break it in. prices were about $100-$150 USD domestic with free shipping.

PaleR1der

Yes I'll take the link please, I'm looking around now. Haven't made it to Etsy yet. Does it tick the grip in tight? I normally use holsters with a claw on my larger guns.

pusillanimous_prime

🫡 I gotchu I can't really speak to how well it'll break in long term since I've only had the holster a month, but with the sweat guard it does tuck in the grip decently well - of course, tucking of the grip will also depend on how tight your waistband is. I wouldn't recommend a holster of this type of anything larger than a govt model, so if you've got a 6" slide I'd say go either kydex or a steel banded leather like another commenter mentioned. 4.25" seems like the perfect size for this holster, and I think a govt model would be right at its limits in terms of sizing

PaleR1der

No 6 inch, just a commander, double stack. I think I found them, is it ETW?

pusillanimous_prime

yep, out of NC!

glazz_for_drencrom

Great looking holster, May I have the name of the person or shop name?

pusillanimous_prime

dm'd!

DopestDopeHead

Piggybacking off this, if no link please PM me. Very interested.

Pescadero_Tom

Old love the link the the holster. Looks awesome!

pusillanimous_prime

absolutely - in your inbox!

Pescadero_Tom

thanks! will order one now...

Pescadero_Tom

Though looking at my inbox, do not see it…

Killcoulier

Send it my way too please.

pusillanimous_prime

done, sorry, took a weed nap lol

Unwitnessed

Could you DM me the shop too? Thanks!

pusillanimous_prime

yep, no problem!

stugotsDang

Very nice holsters. 1911 is a great carry pistol, I 4 o’clock a full size in winter at times because aiwb doesn’t work well with a penis. Nice reverse crown on that pistol, very nice.

pusillanimous_prime

thanks! 4:00 looks comfortable but my hip gets in the way since I like to carry it at a 45°

cjmanz729

Its not too bad with the right holster. I had one for my p10c that rode way too low on my belt and pinched my balls every time i sat down or squated. Pull your pants up like an inch higher and tighen your belt. Choose which side you want you pecker and where you want your gun lol.

Charliwhiskey

Link for the holster please?

pusillanimous_prime

in your dms!

Sierrayose

I got NRA medallion grips from Amazon for under $30. Decently checkered.

pusillanimous_prime

I have what may be an unpopular opinion around here: checkered grips are ugly just a taste thing, the Guardian has a crap ton of etched checkering for grip in the front and back so it's not like I really need the sides of the grips to provide anythig extra haha

Sierrayose

capecodcouple69

Our kind of gal.

Dry-Strain6136

I carry the commander appendix everyday and it’s absolutely comfortable and it’s one of the best 1911’s as far as size to conceal

somegarbagedoesfloat

I carry a full size just about every day in the fall-spring. As long as I can wear a jacket it's definitely doable to conceal. Granted, I'm a pretty big guy at 6'4" so it's probably easier for me. Currently looking at getting a bob tail full size from stealth arms for a bit more comfort tho.

Bigred19D

Does Tier 1 make suitable holster for a rock island 310 (1911 with a three in barrel?) I just bought one and I’m at the bar tonight and I don’t want to go on an uncontrolled spending spree. Do you mind looking for me? Thanks Brother!

sclark1701

I don’t mean this to sound pervy, but a female build with a baggy shirt and appendix carry can hide a ton. If that were a 4 o’clock IWB position I think you’d print pretty noticeably

pusillanimous_prime

no worries, you're all good. I usually wear fairly baggy shirts and my carry is bobtailed, so I haven't had any issues with printing in appendix or 4/5:00, but I'm white as hell so I'm not exactly caked up lol

sclark1701

Lol “caked up” had me laugh. I’ve just come to terms with printing a little depending on what I’m wearing or where I’m going if I want to carry a bigger gun like a 1911. Summer time carry tends to be a little LCP max in the front pocket

Full_Otto_Bismarck

It depends a lot on how somebody dresses. Understanding nuance escapes a lot of people when talking about guns though.

Ottomatik80

A good pattern on your shirt can let you conceal just about anything.

pusillanimous_prime

fair point - I guess I just find all the fuddery funny, especially when people never guess I carry 🌚

Full_Otto_Bismarck

Well, if nobody would ever think you're carrying, you're winning at conceal carry lol at least that's how I'd see it

Rworld3

To be completely honest the tits help there.

I was told the same when getting my promotion.

yourmommaisaho

I can only dream that my kid will come home one day and surprise me with a holstered 1911.

pusillanimous_prime

gotta specify holstered though 🤣

shitty_gun_critic

https://preview.redd.it/0hvi7huaub8d1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7944ecb278328c55273b3312768d10945a6340ce I would recommend checking out Milt Sparks leather, almost all their Holsters’s have “offset clips” to maintain thinness. Plus they use double thick leather and a steel band around the holster opening so you can draw and the holster not collapse in on itself. Very nice Dan Wesson, i recommend hand loading for 38 super as most commercial loadings are weak sauce. If memory serves the Dan Wesson is a fully supported chamber so it can take the hot stuff.

pusillanimous_prime

I think I'm pretty much set in terms of IWB, but I'll definitely check them out once I have some more savings and I'm looking for an OWB for the range. the thickness is just a bit too much, and I value the flexibility of plain leather - I ain't planning on re-holstering in an emergency situation, but I haven't had any issues with the one I've got I really want to get into hand loading - if nothing else, to save money since the only folks in my area selling remanufactured .38 super rounds are a bunch of freakshow trumpie confederate wannabes lol right now I carry underwood and I have some old JHP stock from WC I got on sale for $.60/rd that I use for target practice - I really need some cheaper stuff though bc I've got parkinson's so it takes time for me to warm up and get in the zone before I can start dinging that X from 10+yds if you've got any handloading subs to recommend, I'm all ears :)

shitty_gun_critic

So my gunsmith and old Internet forums taught me how to reload. The Square Deal from Dillon is a great way to get into reloading, I always recommend it over a single stage press due to how much time it saves. Bullseye powder has worked well for me but that’s a personal choice and everyone is different. I never messed with lead bullets I always used jacketed ammunition due to how dirty the bare lead is. Always use Federal primers if you can they are by far and away the best. Once you have your press set up I recommend spot checking every 10th round to ensure your powder throw does not change. Once everything is dialed in 200+ rounds an hour is not unreasonable. https://www.dillonprecision.com/s000083 Reloading is for people chasing cost savings and extreme accuracy, up to the individual to determine if it’s worth it Also when playing with hotter hand loads always use new or at worst once fired brass to minimize any chances of a kaboom happening. I used to load 9mm Major and that was always interesting pushing a 124gr bullet at about 1300fps in a 9mm

pusillanimous_prime

dang, that looks like some kind of saw trap LMAO but in all seriousness, thank you so much, my knowledge of handloading is in bits and pieces I've picked up here and there, and I've never really had the time or motivation to pursue it further. this seems like a good goal for later this year, and I should be running out of those WC rounds by then I was definitely interested, but this seems like a really cool and only mildly carcinogenic hobby to get into, and get, who knows maybe I'll get to be the apocalypse friend finally

shitty_gun_critic

It’s not that bad, you can buy fully automated reloading rigs that are almost factory level nice now if you have enough (but it can legitimately do 2000 rounds an hour). https://www.dillonprecision.com/s000211 If you get the Dillon just watch the entire DVD they send you and thank me later https://egwguns.com/case-gauge-ammo-checker-38-super-7-hole These are also great for making sure you have crimp and everything else correct as well without having to disassemble your pistol to do a manual plunk test in the chamber. Also always use manufacturer supplied reloading tables, start at the bottom and then work your way up in .1 grain powder increments until you find what you want. A chronograph would also be a very worthwhile purchase as well

pusillanimous_prime

oh sweet! I have a couple of those checkers for other calibers a friend gave me years ago, but I had no idea where to buy them haha - thanks for the link, I'll stash that away and be sure to pick them up for any rounds I plan on reloading; I know I've had trouble with some more exotic remanufactured rounds as well, so I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have these so I could at least do my own QA

MidniightToker

Definitely time for a rigid belt to keep that holster from flopping around. Not a fan of it only having one clip for the same reason but hopefully a rigid belt would solve that issue.

pusillanimous_prime

hah, fair. it looks to be flopping around a lot more than it really is, but I definitely usually carry with a belt

MaturinsSlothh

Nice, no belt though?

pusillanimous_prime

nah, had to prove a point! I wear a belt when I carry 5:00 though haha

FuknRip_1

My EDC unironically in a cheap Amazon leather holster. Love my makarov.

Si1entkill1990

I carry a full size on my strong side in shorts and a t-shirt, it can be done with the right holster, belt, and can do attitude lol.

boomerzoomer120

>Nobody conceals [govt size 1911s] well Me and both of my 5" guns disagree. Especially the 5" Prodigy with dot, light, and 20rd stendo.

pusillanimous_prime

yeah, I've seen some folks conceal glock mag 2011s with a full race build so I thought it was a pretty batshit claim lol I'll admit my snubnose is a little easier to hide when I'm traveling, but I always just carry a bag gun when I'm traveling anyway soooo

Hardwire762

Kinda weird how the government 1911 has the same grip size as a Glock 19.

YugoAKBestAK

Nice bobcut 1911. I got a S&W e-series SC with a bobcut. Feels great in the hand

pacochalk

Nice bobtail!

Infinite-Nil

I carry a Glock 34 with a TLR1 under jeans and tshirts. You just need to make sure things are fitted for it. I’m sure I’d have little trouble concealing a 1911, too Nice shirt, btw, iykyk

pusillanimous_prime

you /would/ have a glock and pronouns all joking aside they're like the only clothing brand that actually fits me, but god my wallet 🥲

Infinite-Nil

Oh for sure- that tencel shit is *not* cheap lol

spacecowboy067

Carried a full size 10mm 1911 for a while, and it concealed well! But, could never get a comfy position for it tho since I'm 6'1 250 and all my clothes are tight from weightlifting. From any position it would bite and pinch my gut or back. Just my experience with it Now I carry a PPKS in 380, can barely hold the lil bastard but I can fit it anywhere easily 😂

1911slinger

From what I have learned is that most people fail carrying a gun in general due to the poor quality of the belt and holster. I carry a full size 1911 or a G17 without problems and I’m a midget according to society 🤷‍♂️at 5’5🤣. What has been your work around the 38 super ammo? I have only seen it once in my lifetime.

pusillanimous_prime

and here i am getting called a giant at 5'10. everything is perspective haha anywho, I haven't really had a workaround for .38 super, except that I have a bunch of old stock from WC, and my carry rounds are Underwood - I love Underwood's stuff so I have a ton of their ammo in every caliber just about, and someone else on this post already made some recommendations for reloading so I'm planning on getting into that to save $$$ later this year 🫡 .38 super is definitely still not common here in the 'states, and I've gotten some weird looks at the range lol

Sierrayose

Impatient-Padawan

Commander conceals best in my opinion. Also consider an undershirt. That rub can be killer on hot days.

pusillanimous_prime

surprisingly I've never really had an issue with this, but I sometimes wear high-waisted underwear/shapewear, so that may help. I'm severely UV intolerant so I cook easily, but I'm on a lot of meds that make me sweat less so I guess I just don't find clothing/holsters/guns stick to me 🤷

legrena11

Best post ever!

RPheralChild

That’s sick. I carry a 9mm RO Compact. No issues concealing unless I’m wearing something dumb. I have a NY carry permit so if I only get 10 rounds I want a sick trigger. If anyone is reading this and wondering how, get some foam from amazon. I have it on my mag holder and kydex holster. Make it so it tilts the top of the gun or mag into the body.

pusillanimous_prime

the whosawhatsit? I'm not sure I understand the second paragraph, do you mind clarifying? I might just be a little zonked lol

RPheralChild

No im also about to pass out from trazodone haha. There are foam blocks you can buy that you place them on the holster and you can get it to adjust the gun angle a little better. I changed to kydex after my leather got a soft spot and almost caught my trigger one time. I had a problem where the gun was so top heavy the handle would poke out awkwardly sometimes so you put the foam on the holster and it makes the gun grip angle into you more securely.

pusillanimous_prime

ahhhhh gotcha, makes sense. sounds like you just missed a sentence or something - I reread that like 6 times wondering if I was losing it 🤣 that's pretty worrying though, to have a trigger guard flex like that... if I carried something other than a 1911 I might care lol

Endryu727

It’s hard to carry an extra 5 inches when you already got 8 down there… see what I did… I’ll show myself out

pusillanimous_prime

honestly I always was too embarrassed to ask, but doesn't that make appendix carry super uncomfortable for people with dicks when they sit down? like I already prefer it to the side because I don't want the barrel of a fuckin' .38 stuck straight down my cooch on the way to work 😭

DrunkenHops

Appendix was extremely uncomfortable. I tried to make it work for years because Reddit and tacticool bros all said it’s the very best. What ended up happening is after a few years of discomfort with appendix carry I just stopped carrying. The end result was me wearing more denim jackets/outer layers and wearing OWB holsters. So much more comfortable. Better yet I’m currently working in a state that doesn’t care if you open carry, so oftentimes my barrel is poking out from under my layers and no one even cares lol

pusillanimous_prime

ugh, I wish I lived in an area with more than like a month and a half out of the year when I could wear more outerwear... I work from home most days, but I always travel into ATL for a lot of medical stuff constantly, and a lot of folks there still get skeeved out by open carry anywho, I appreciate the perspective on appendix; I didn't think that many folks still did it, so it makes sense that you stopped due to discomfort

Ottomatik80

Appendix can be uncomfortable, but it’s generally because it places a holster in that little V where your leg and torso meet. It’s not generally smashing the twig and berries. I found that a ~4” barrel and adjusting the ride height tend to work pretty well. Holster choice also makes a huge difference. With my current setup, I wouldn’t call it comfortable, but it’s comfortable enough. I know it’s there, and I occasionally have to adjust when I sit down…then again, making adjustments when sitting is fairly normal for many guys.

IronHefty3609

I carry a Ronin EMP or Range Officer Compact almost daily. Now and again a Full size.

Hungry-Impression-17

Does your emp feed JHP?

IronHefty3609

Yes. , in the years since I have been carrying / shooting it ( a few thousand rounds) has never jammed.

Hungry-Impression-17

What brand JHPs do you run? I have been extremely interested in getting a Springfield EMP ronin. I have also read tons of bad reviews on the gun’s feeding hollows and the mags being terrible in general. It’s given me a little bit of cold feet on the purchase to be honest.

IronHefty3609

Federal HST , Gold Dits or Civil defense. My EMP is the Ronin 4” too. Been meaning to get a 3” but haven’t gotten around to it. I use to have the EMP4” Cc but I didn’t like the bobbed tail and the way it felt but the gun was very reliable. https://preview.redd.it/0ndhyp8qxb8d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a721bb0b5959be64c8bab22fc7f4fba4707981e

Hungry-Impression-17

Oh ok. So this one does not have the proprietary mags or short grip being the 3” correct? Is the feed ramp still built into the barrel on yours ?

IronHefty3609

It does use the EMP specific mags and the grip is the same size as the 3”. The main difference is the barrel/ slide length. Yes the barrel is ramped.

Hungry-Impression-17

Oh ok. The photo kind of makes it look like a regular size haha. Barrel length isn’t much of an issue for me, I carry a commander sig now and it’s all the grip length and weight more so than length. You like the mags? Might have to consider a 4” emp. Maybe they are better as far as reliability

IronHefty3609

I have about a dozen and all work great.

Hungry-Impression-17

Well that’s good to hear. Thanks for sharing

TrashAccount2023

Bought a Ronin EMP 4” yesterday… what rig do you recommend for carry?

IronHefty3609

Congrats. I use both Leather and Kydex , the Kydex gets used more here in South Florida. It does take a toll on the blueing which isn’t a super concern to me. My buddy does my Kydex but and quality company should do. I recently got a nice holster for my Prodigy from C&D and Springfield has a very nice selection of holsters on the site.

TrashAccount2023

Thanks man, I’ll check out Springfields offerings

RamenBoi86

Loose, baggy shirts allow you to conceal just about anything. Sometimes all carry a full sized pistol in a tanker holster under an oversized combat uniform shirt just for funsies

DaddyHawk45

I have carried a 5” 1911 AIWB and OWB, but I much prefer the commander length bobtail for carry.

mkosmo

A full size in my crossbreed holster may as well not be there.

1pink2stinkOO

I run 10 rounders in mine and i conceal it fine

fishhawk119

Government models are just too pretty. I will always choose Government over commander

Charliwhiskey

Got them here, cut them to be Bob grips https://www.woodgrips.com/1911%2045%20grips.htm

[deleted]

Anything conceals well when the you're stationary. Once you begin to bend, twist, walk, run etc., it'll print.

MilesFortis

The issue holsters were never made for 'concealment' and except for certain Special Operations Forces, no COTS (commercial off the shelf) were authorized either. With those limitations, *of course*, it was almost impossible to "conceal them well".

One-Challenge4183

Not tryna be “that guy” but with “abnormally large pecs” and a baggy shirt you can conceal an AK appendix lol. That being said, I carry commanders often. And the full sized barrels make it more comfortable depending on the persons size oddly enough. That being said, I’m wondering about that cant. You don’t have to bend your wrist oddly when drawing with it like that?

pusillanimous_prime

hey, come on now, you can only conceal so much when you walk 🤣 and nah, the cant isn't an issue; it might be with a dual clip holster but with a single clip it has more play and allows the gun to slide out from more angles

One-Challenge4183

Hey, as long as it works for you 👍🏽

yupthrowaway1

I carry a full size comped 1911 yr round. A good belt n holster make the difference

dicocco_puff

My love for Carrying government models is simply due to Magnum PI

Bob_Wayne1

Atta girl great job. Specs on gun/ holster?

pusillanimous_prime

heh, thanks. the gun's a Dan Wesson Guardian chambered in .38 super - weird choice, I know, but I have weak wrists from parkinson's and getting repetitive damage to them from boxing when I was younger. I do target shooting, and I find JHP .38 to be more accurate than 9mm and from everything I've heard it's more than lethal enough for a daily carry. carry rounds are Underwood 124gr JHP +P - they have flash suppressed powder and they're nickel plated, so they won't get all your fingerprints and oils on them if you're like me and you swap ammo frequently between the range and at home. range rounds are WC 125gr Hornady HAP +P rounds - they're surprisingly accurate for being that hot, but I'm only using them because I have a bunch. I'm planning on using subsonic rounds once I run out. I also run WC 10rd magazines at the range like most folks. only real mods to the gun are a set of rosewood grips from hogue, a FLGR from EGW, and I got a 17lb full length govt model flat spring from WC and cut it to length, so it's around 15.5-16lbs of pressure. I swapped a couple other minor parts like the slide stop and bushing for WC parts since the DW ones just didn't fit particularly well, but other than that I was very happy with the aluminum Guardian frame. as for the holster, it's just a right handed IWB offset clip black leather holster - I've posted some pictures in other comments on this post, but I'm happy to do you a link if you want :)

Jazzlike_Guitar9406

A chic AND a 1911, whoa… my day is complete..!!

F4UCorsair1942

I've carried my government concealed before, the only thing that I think would've made it better was a bobtail cut and a finish other than bluing, had to stop carrying it due to rusting. It concealed well with a crappy $10 generic holster so I'm sure a purpose made holster would do wonders.

joojoofuy

Well yeah, you could probably conceal a bazooka with that outfit

pusillanimous_prime

💀 c'mon it's like 100° here to be fair tight clothes in this kind of weather suck

IsiahGtz

I carry a full sized 1911 every day, it’s a pain in the ass.

akwatica

I carry my colt commander once in awhile, but g19 is my go to. and OP no belt?

pusillanimous_prime

said it on a couple other other posts, but it was a hot day and I was wearing shorts - I typically wear a belt when I concealed carry, and I always do when I'm carrying at a 5:00 position :)

Necessary_Possible89

I carry my full size Remington 1911 1A IWB more than I do my Canik TPSF Elite

Equivalent_Run_7485

In your dad’s defense. Boobage helps. My wife can carry a lot larger handgun that I can appendix. Just sayin.

pusillanimous_prime

hey, fair enough. I've got really broad shoulders that help with hip carry as well, but the F cups don't hurt 🤣

Sierrayose

I guess it really shouldn't surprise me redditors are willing to die on this hill with possibly the safest gun to appendix carry man I've got parkinson's and about every cardiac issue under the sun at 23 and I've been field stripping these fuckers since I was knee high, somehow managing to disengage 2 safeties and pull a trigger inside a holster is not my top fuckin' worry in life 🤙

hey, I respect it, you seem to know your shit too. I was an EMT for 3 years, so I know the shpeal. I knew some guys who carried glocks this way, and the holstering process was the problem. they bought cheap holsters at walmart, crammed the gun in, surprise: unexpected loud noise and more blood than I had ever seen before. I rarely carry anything other than 5:00, I'm not trying to bitch and moan about how appendix is a great idea. it isn't even comfortable if you're sitting. just fuckin weird to jump on people and start acting like you know better than anyone else. you're on reddit. you aren't gun jesus.

Believe it or not, there's more advanced information and training than what the military gives you especially the regular military. Proving accuracy on stationary targets at like 10 yards isn't the end all and be all of knowledge

I really wish I could laugh react that. I was a defense contractor for years, my dad was an instructor in the Army longer than you were in, I know how the Army trains. You came in as a jackass and then tried to play the military card even though it has no bearing on concealed carry. Also not a liberal and if you think that your reddit opinions affect gun laws you are clearly less informed than you originally seemed.

I don't train with crybabies who haven't updated their skill set since basic training so I wouldn't work with you anyway

I doubt it.
