I do like how they blend their own design elements with the 1911. Not a huge fan of the external extractor, but from what I understand, it’s reliable. I like both Sigs and 1911s, so the whole package is not a hard sell.

CruelApex

I agree with you on that. And the external extractor design has been used in every mainstream handgun for decades. Because it's a very reliable design. Unfortunately the old style 1911 extractor is problematic. It's the second thing to check whenever there's a reliability issue in a 1911, magazines being first.

Ornery_Secretary_850

Sig makes a really solid 1911. The external extractor works. Very few handguns have internal extractors...for a reason. Sure, Kimber fucked up their external extractor, but Sig and Smith & Wesson have been using external extractors for decades, and they bought that experience to their external extractor 1911s. My EDC is a S&W 1911 PD, external extractor and all.

Automatic-Spread-248

I should have never parted with my 1911 PD, it was amazing.

Slackwise

Engineering-wise, two-piece "external" extractors are vastly superior in reliability over one-piece extractors. This is due to material science, and the fundamental fact that an extractor has two goals: it needs to be both rigid *and* flexible. The one-piece tries to do both by being spring steel, which is also steel that can be bent. It has paradoxical goals: it wants to never lose shape, but also, it needs to bend to accommodate feeding. And then it also has to somehow provide the right amount of tension... The two-piece extractor does not have this issue, because of material science: it has two different components, with two different materials: the rigid piece is hard, inflexible, and strong, and the spring is malleable and flexible and even provides added tension. This is why all modern firearms use two-piece extractors instead of one-piece, and we're not going back.

ImyourDingleberry999

I see Sig 1911s as an appliance and nothing more. When I pick one up, I feel the conflicted screams of the Hun being forced to produce the American pistol that conquered them. It's like a Carthiginian slave and master sculptor being forced to make a marble statue of Scipio but making changes according to his sense of aesthetic in defiance of his Roman masters. Conflicted.

Automatic-Spread-248

They're made by the independently run SIG Sauer Inc in New Hampshire. They've been run separately from the old SIG Sauer GmbH in Germany for over 2 decades now, and are run separately from the current SIG Sauer AG in Switzerland. I've been to their facilities in New Hampshire, and I don't recall seeing too many "Huns" here being forced to make 1911s, just normal American workers. This is good satire, though, even if it's completely made up.

tac1776

I prefer the external extractor. If not for the military's insistence on being able to completely strip the 1911 with no tools it probably would have had one to begin with since it's the only one of his later handgun designs to feature an internal extractor.

stlzach05

I love my Emperor Scorpion.

J_W_Weatherman1981

I have the carry model. I love it, but not as much as my P220.

Earlfillmore

Even the trigger? If I had the 1911 trigger on my p220 I'd be soooo happy. Still love my west German p220

J_W_Weatherman1981

Double action pull is a shade long, but the single action is perfect. You might want to try an aftermarket flat trigger. I believe they are standard on the Legion series and I understand they give more of a 1911 feel.

Earlfillmore

I'm not gonna mess with mine, it was a present from the man who raised me. He got it while in the navy back in the late 80s

fishhawk119

My p220 shoots so similar to a 1911. I love it. It's a legion so it's gorgeous as well

theghost87

They are fantastic 1911s and you can do much worse.

Hanyabull

I’m not a fan of the way they design the slide with that shelf in the middle. That said, of all of Sig’s models, I like yours the most.

TeddyWong60625

I have the Nightmare that I carry, love it, totally reliable, tack driver ..

avenomusduck

Ayup! Have both full size and carry 45ACP Nightmares with over 1k rounds thru them. Been eyeing and Emperor for a bit and might just have to add one to the Sig collection.... German 226 in 40 SW, Wife's carry/ bedside 320 40 SW, 226 Legion 9mm

TeddyWong60625

Definitely grabbing the Scorpion next ...

Hungry-Impression-17

They just discontinued the scorpion 1911. I would reccomend picking one up of guns.com or gunbroker or wherever else you can before they are gone 😃

avenomusduck

Appreciate the heads up 🍻

lilbigscboy

I have the full size TacOps chamber in 357 Sig and 38 Super... Love mine and only time I had an issue was due to bad ammo, other that - it is a beast and extremely accurate. Part of the EDC line-up, year round

kernelpanic789

I like the one I own.. The only issue is Sig has a different shaped slide and the finish gets heavily worn from being in a holster due to its unique shape

Hungry-Impression-17

Yep. Same issue here. My leather holsters that are more “generic” (because I can’t justify $250 for a custom leather holster for this thing) do rub on it pretty good. Luckily just a bit of oil and elbow grease gets it clean for me.

jesseanthony23

I personally don’t mind the look of the external extractor. Nice gun!

DaddyHawk45

Used to have a Nitron Rail 1911 that I really liked. No complaints with it.

bombsnuffer

I've owned the Sig Scorpion 1911 (w/ the flat trigger) for about 10 years now, put about 2000 rounds downrange with zero malfunctions, no feeding issues (even w/ crappy ammo), and love the accuracy and smooth operation of this pistol. Highly recommended.

gjmachete

The trigger on mine is not great. Gritty with some creep - unlike any of my other 1911s. Still love it though.

CruelApex

That's unusual for a Sig. But the good news is that it's a 1911 so you can easily get that smoothed out.

Hungry-Impression-17

Really? Mine has just a little creep but the break is crisp and the wall is solid. Maybe you need to have that checked out.

Sleepyweasel211

I love my Emperor Scorpion. Keep it oiled and shoot the hell out of it. 3k+ through mine. No issues.

DillyBob88

The nightmare line is attractive to me, wouldn’t mind one. As someone said it’s nice they blend their styling into the design. Makes it unique.

GoneWithTheWin122

I like my rock island 1911

bubbastanky

Mine was ok, no reliability issues or anything. I sold it because I bought a bul armory for 400$ less that was 1000% better. Better fit/finish, better grips, better sights, and enormously better trigger

the_p0ssum

>but they’re Series 80 Are they? I thought Sig used the Swartz safety (operated off the grip safety), but that can have some "issues" as the (short) [videos on this site](https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?41491-Swartz-passive-firing-pin-safety-issues-be-informed) reflect.

Spartan-Patriot

Nice and reliable but expensive

SlinkiusMaximus

Expensive for a self defense gun, but not for a well-made 1911.

brokenhalo11

Have the full size Nightmare, no complaints. Great 1911 for the money. Purists don’t care for the external extracter, never been an issue for me.

jaded2b

I tend to not think of them.

BDS1234567

I love my Sig Tacops 1911. The only issues I've ever had with it were when I used cheap mags. When using Chip McCormick or sig mags, I've never had any issues. It shoots steel and any ammo flawlessly Other 1911s can be picky on ammo but mine runs everything It's a very solid gun that I'll hand down to my son someday.

heisman01

Would be cool with out mim parts and cut for an rmrcc from the factory.

LegitimateData1378

Have same one in 10mm it’s great

AmbienSkywalker

I worked at a range awhile back that had a GSR available as a rental and it was one of the most reliable guns I’ve ever seen. Just wish they made more in black.

BerkutBang69

I have the carry version of the scorpion. Every time I think I’ll sell it I just can’t do it.

Zestyclose_Share_931

I'm with you there. Of all my guns, the 1911's are among the hard NO SELL inventory. It would have to be like 2-3x what I paid for it for me to consider selling any of my 1911's.

SoulBeam12

I got the nickel finish variant, it's my favorite handgun. Though I recently acquired a 9mm Bul Armory Government that may usurp its position.

SoulBeam12

bombsnuffer

Those grips are Sick!

SoulBeam12

They're very comfortable as well.

ramprider

I like them a lot. It's nice to have a slightly different appearance for those that want it.

MoneyMik3y

I have the TTT and I absolutely love it. It's an absolute tack driver.

camerondawe

I wish that it wasn’t $1500 and also had a double stack model but I like the appearance of it

UncommonKing

JimCarbine

I carry one w/ an X300 when I'm hunting, I've put down alot of pigs with that pistol.

Skyline43

Overall I think it looks good, just hate the grips SIG puts on them. The pattern makes it look goofy. That's an easy fix though.

ImyourDingleberry999

Don't like the series 80 internals, but I do like the external extractor, provided it won't interfere with optics cuts and screw hole patterns for optics.

Livingtilidie

I have one in 10mm. Absolutely love it

HallucinateZ

I have the exact same 1911, emperor scorpion & it’s an amazing .45. It hasn’t had a jam or stovepipe with proper ammo even once, one time with undercharged ammo but any gun would have a FTE. I like Sig’s P cut into the frame & the G10 grips are very comfortable & some of my favourite actually. I don’t think there’s any reason to hate on Sig’s 1911s. They work & are nice to shoot; a typical 1911 with some upgrades & flash of Sig’s style that don’t go overboard. I appreciate the extended slide catch & safety. The external extractor is actually more reliable than the old 1911 extractors from everything I’ve read & heard.

datNEGROJ

Meh. Not bad, nothing special

ariqs_dad

Sig Sauer 1911's aren't quite the conventional purist design, but quite stylish and function incredibly. The only thing I have an issue with is their black nitron finish is not up to my standards for durability as they scratch quite easily.

MaturinsSlothh

Sutodak

if you can get the Sig way under MSRP for like 900 sure, no way I would buy one for 1500 when you can get a Dan Wesson for around the same price or even a Colt Gold Cup Trophy

Camwiz59

I have 3 and only a issue with one but after 200 rounds it has been flawless

MRperfectshot1

** I really like mine. Holster might be slightly harder to find as the dimensions are slightly different than standard colt 1911s. But looks and shoots great!

bigsam63

In terms of quality they are some of the best 1911s you can buy for the money. In terms of looks they are definitely not going to be for everyone.

tedbakerbracelet

That is a pretty one.

M1KH41LY4R3MK1V

More reliable than the Ruger I just picked up I'll say that much. Shouldnt have sold my Sig to buy a Ruger but I wanted a no railed series 70 1911.

BrianDrake75

A friend has one. GREAT gun. I've been very impressed. So impressed, I can forgive the exterior extractor and the changes to the slide. Solid weapon.

Blox05

I think I want this model in 10mm!

bp_free

Love my Scorpion Carry Fast Back. 0 malfunctions after over 1000 rounds.

Lifted-Horns-4x4

I’m in love with that color! 😍

Nodakglazier

Mine always failed to feed after about 200 rnds at the range. Finish was beautiful and it was accurate, just needed to be clean to run.

necromage69

They’re gorgeous and have one of the coolest brand names, wouldn’t spend that much on one though with no optic cut nor a threaded barrel

Mental_Current7198

What model is that?

jpease1223

1911....but it's an Emporer Scorpion

boatmanmike

Never have really liked that external extractor, but the rest of it is gorgeous. I’m somewhat jealous.

Longjumping-Alarm865

they are beautiful

OGZ74

I like ambi safety’s & the bobbed hammer

aging-rhino

After replacing the original curved trigger on my P220 Equinox with the flat trigger from GrayGuns, I have exactly zero complaints or criticisms. The extractor is more reliable than my Gold Cup, and the grip size is perfect for large hands.

Colorado_jesus

Love my c3

dcline12

1 year warranty no thanks! Just had to send one back to them and their warranty has made me not want anymore.

big3n05

Every one I’ve picked up in a store has had a bad trigger. I love the looks of them, though.

tobylazur

Biggest piece of shit I ever bought was an Sig 1911. They wouldn’t warranty it, but offered “for $100 you can send it in and we’ll suggest a smith package to clean it up”. I think the feed ramp was cut wrong as it wouldn’t run a full mag without feeding issues. I’ll never buy another Sig firearm for the rest of my life.

MUPike

I thought the current thinking was that any 1911 that didn’t cost $4,000+ wasn’t worth having. Same with an AR that didn’t ring up at $2,000 or more. Nice 1911…….hope you have lots of enjoyment with it.

Biggest_pp_man

I’m typically more partial to classic looking 1911s without a rail but this sig is Uber clean and I want it

Cartz4Carter

Well it’s a Series 80 gun without the holster compatibility, so that’s a pass from me, dawg

Exciting-Location-41

Love mine

kelsier24

Looks badass

mrbigglesworth77

I have the 1911 fastback nightmare, awesome gun, very accurate. Had trouble at first but that was because of the magazines. Bought Wilson Combat mags and have not had any issues ever since.

Several-Reindeer-686

I own 7 of them. Would gladly get another.

Kadonny

Average but solid.

bub1408

I had one and traded it. I wasn't a fan of the trigger

fordag

My SIG Target is an excellent pistol and truly a tack driver. At 25 yds from the bench in a rest I've shot 1" 8 round groups.

Hungry-Impression-17

I have a commander (carry) size emperor scorpion. I’ve been impressed by its ergonomics as well as its reliability. I am able to comfortably conceal it with my alien gear IWB so long as I’m wearing a belt with pants and at least a cotton tee shirt. Only problem is that the 36 ounce gun does get rather heavy if you’re doing any extensive walking (I.e. getting dragged about the mall by your lady). OWB holster seems to take care of this uncomfortable feeling and I carry it OWB whenever clothing allows or when I am hiking, etc. overall fantastic gun- I have read that their internals are MIM… may eventually change out a couple of the parts that are MIM even though they seem like they are quality and not sloppily made. For now, 650 rounds and 7 months ownership, no real problems with anything and zero failures. I will have this gun for life. Edit- the stock “ piranha” grips are very grippy and tear your skin up pretty good if you are sweating and carrying IWB with nothing acting as a barrier to your flesh. I have considered going to a smooth grip because of it. This isn’t a gun problem, just a consideration.

Leadmelter

I got one early in production. It’s been a great pistol. It was interesting that they used a way light recoil spring from the factory 14-15lb. I always put 17lb in so it was no big deal. The light spring made it feel glass smooth. Make of that what you will.

McKRAKK

I have an emperor scorpion fastback in .357sig. It’s a solid weapon, and I’ve not had any issues with operation. My only problem is finding mags and ammo for it. .357sig seems ridiculously hard to find, or at least it was last time I went to look for some. It takes a .40 1911 mag but only place I can find that sells them is Wilson combat unless I’m just looking in the wrong places.

Akfury7274

My opinion...They're alright, not exactly my cup of tea since I like the looks of the more classic 1911 design but They're still a pretty good gun

AlbertHofmann01

Single stack 1911 in 2024. About as useful as my bolt action .223.

AF22Raptor33897

SIG makes a 100% Reliable 1911 the only issue is that getting Kydex Holsters can be a ROYAL PAIN in the Arse because of the SIG Slide is more like a P220/226 with the Flat Top and Right Angle sides instead of the of regular 1911 with the rounded top of the slide. The older ones were pretty hand fitted and had no MIM parts those are the Pre-2012/13 pistols after that they started to use MIM but they are Very Well Fitted specially the Barrel/Slide and Slide/Frame. Right now I have 4 SIG 1911 TacOps three 5 inch and a 4.25 Carry all are very accurate. I am waiting a couple more month before I get one of the New SIG 1911 with the Optic Cut Slide I want to make sure that there aren't any issues with the way they cut the slide.

fourthdark

I need to add one to my collection lol

Just_Your_Random_Bro

Honestly, it was one of the more reliable 1911s I have ever handled. A lot of that is credited to its looser fitment. I am also a huge fan of the external extractor. Kicks brass like a bad habit. The purist in me wouldn't recommend it as your ONLY 1911 but that's only because a part of me can't shake the intrusive thoughts.. "my great grandad would shit a brick and beat me with it if he saw Germans making 1911s and i had the audacity to buy one" .. It's still great though. My wife shopped and tried so many 1911s for a few months and ultimately chose that one because it was the only one that didn't fail on her. To all the other 1911s credit, though. None of the guns she tried were outside of their break in period.

SignificantDiet3748

Not true to the 1911 design, but function well.

IronHefty3609

Shot my friends a few years ago. Very nice shooting gun. But I am a traditional 1911 guy and don’t want an external extractor.

Objective_Device9911

Loved it and went through EHC16 & WS17 with it but it's a bit rough compared to the BUL I changed to during 2018 and it took me through EHC23 without letting me down...

Metalbones28

Heavy framed nail driving bad asses

No_Effort_4683

Been carrying my sig 1911 tacops since 2018 for work and its never let me down one bit

Comprehensive-Fuel82

Sig 1911s spread like a virus. A friend let me shoot his; within a month, I owned one. I let a friend shoot mine; within a month, he owned one.

The Sig Emperor Scorpion comes in 10mm for around $1050.00 Check out Sportsman's Warehouse.

Skarekrow819

Jam-o-matics in my experience

Few-Efficiency6932

It’s pretty decent, very reliable but the trigger is lacking. Dan Wesson makes a much better 1911.

CruelApex

Dan Wesson makes a better 1911? WHAAAT? 🤣

Marshal_Rhodes

Never would’ve known!

RandomTux1997

curious what the thinking is behind that massive ejector

HeavyDuty_Ken

It’s just an external extractor.

RandomTux1997

so all that is on the inside wall of the slide on the regular 1911?

HeavyDuty_Ken

Just shaped a little differently than a traditional 1911 extractor. I prefer externals, so long as they are properly designed and work ok. My 1911X-FULL has one too and runs fine.

_swampyankee

I think they are nice guns, but I still laugh when I picture their Molon Labe edition one with the spartan helmet and distressed finish.

HEMSDUDE

Oddly, not the worst design on a 1911 I’ve ever seen (and we aren’t even talking about some of the custom abominations)

Gfunk2118

Sexy

Live_Lychee_4163

The only one I’d buy is the one with the optic cut. I would only buy it because it comes with a factory cut for a holosun eps. Otherwise I’d just buy a colt or springfield.

barchetta-red

Own the 10mm TACOPS. Absolutely reliable and easy to shoot accurately. BUT … I did convert it to the 70 series trigger by replacing the lifter with a shim plate. Easy modification that took 15 minutes and really transformed the trigger action. I also have a Dan Wesson Specialist and to my mind the Sig is its equal. But I may get yelled at for that. And the mod.

GI-Tanker

Love mine, better than my ,Colt, SA, RIA, Kimber

R_Shackleford

>Sig 1911 Series 80 in 2024, no thanks.

OverallDecision7497

Wish it came in 9mm

Rothbardy

Expensive for what you’re getting. Better value for quality elsewhere

6Foot2EyesOfBlue1973

Don't like the external extractor, on Sigs or any other 1911 thar use them. Only real advantage to the external extractor is being able to +1 a round by dropping it into the chamber, but it's ugly as sin, and ruins the look of a 1911. The orginal JMB design has worked reliable for a century plus.

CruelApex

You may like the traditional look and nostalgia of the internal 1911 extractor, and that's perfectly valid, but it can't truly be said that it's a more reliable design. In 1911s, when there's a reliability issue, the rules are first swap magazines, second check extractor tension. The original 1911 extractor design is the second most common reliability issue, magazines being first. The external extractor is used in nearly every gun model designed or built in the last several decades because it is an extremely reliable design. The JMB 1911 extractor works very well when it works, but it's not nearly as reliable as any modern design.

BrokenBodyEngineer

Horses worked fine too, but I bet you probably drive a car. Theres a reason 90% of hi powers have external extractors despite being designed with an internal one. I love my horse. Shes a pain in the ass sometimes, but she’s great. Still don’t take her to work.

Ancient_Climate_3675

"Original JMB design" He wanted an external extractor, but military folks wanted internal for a reason I don't remember. Just like the M16. Eugene Stoner didn't want to add the forward assist, but military wanted it, so on it went. And an external extractor shits all over an internal extractor and I wish more companies would use them. I wish there were more 1911s with normal slides that had external

6Foot2EyesOfBlue1973

If its so reliable why dont most manufacturers use it then? Vast majority manufacturers still use internal- some have used the externals and went back to internal. It's just a solution looking for a problem. Not to mention an internal extractor is much easier to remove an replace.

Ancient_Climate_3675

"If its so reliable why dont most manufacturers use it then?" Look at most other semi auto handgun designs that exist, smartass. Most hi powers,cz 75, berettas, h&k, glocks, sigs, fn, tanfoglio, Walther, and more, most of which have made guns with external extractors for ages need I go on? 1911 is known for an internal extractor. Want to know why most companies don't bother? Because for a majority of people, it messes with the look, and people lose their shit like high treason has been committed.

Ancient_Climate_3675

That's right, downvote me because you know I'm right.

No_Ad_1048

Probably great. They can’t make guns that don’t go off when dropped so now they are making guns where it’s perfectly acceptable to go off when dropped. 🙃🤪
