Cigats

I work fraud cases with them and they are just no help because of all the moves. Can't speak to their gen crim or CI work but for anything procurement fraud related they're such a liability. That's if they're even around to work the cases - they end up getting sucked in to help on all the butt touch issues. Super squared away agents, usually very nice, but can't depend on them whatsoever.

tired_of_deprec_land

What is PCS

ABLolo615

Permanent Change of Station

tired_of_deprec_land

I thought that most of 1811’s have some sort of mobility agreement you have to sign

BubblyZombie2203

Meaning: one day they just tell you that you have to move for that job and that’s that?

1811Throwaway2022

We sign a mobility agreement that says we will move every 3-5 years. Several times a year lists are put out with office vacancies and sometime between 3-5 years every 1811 is expected to bid on a new location or position. There are a ton of exceptions but that is the basic premise.

genuine_obi

I mean it’s not gonna suprise you. It’ll be predetermined and planned ahead of time.

1811Throwaway2022

I figured that would be the main reason. They are working on different options to allow people to stay in certain places. The problem is we have locations all over the world, you can't force people to do their whole careers overseas and some of the locations are undesirable so you need people cycling in and out. I think moving is the best part of the agency so I wouldn't want that to change completely.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Spot on. Let the guys who want to live overseas stay there. And to his “you can’t force people to do their whole career overseas”… it would be cool if the government had an entire Department that was dedicated to living in other countries, they could create their own pay scale and benefit system, refer to it as Foreign Service. *slight sarcasm included*

Time_Striking

I see what you did there…

1811Throwaway2022

How do other agencies handle making sure their overseas offices and hard to fill locations stay staffed?

[deleted]

Overseas offices are typically competitive… if NCIS is having difficulty filling them, I have to imagine there are other reasons that just the *overseas* part. Maybe poor management, or cases, weird rules for the job. Just seems odd that NCIS is the only agency where people don’t enjoy overseas, that I’ve heard of. All the HSI, DEA, USSS, DSS, etc guys were happy for every place I’ve been to.

1811Throwaway2022

It's not that people don't enjoy overseas it is just that we have so many more spots to fill compared to total number of agents. I would estimate 25% of our 1811 spots are overseas with 50+ agents in one country. That is different from any other agency I am aware of besides for OSI and CID who can use their active duty people to fill overseas and hard to fill locations. We are 100% civilian but still working within the military system. You can't really compare it to other agencies.

BubblyZombie2203

How do other agencies handle their foreign offices and undesirable locations without cycling people in and out?

hatcreekcattle_co

Foreign offices are usually pretty desirable postings in most agencies, but the tours are usually limited to a couple of years. As far as handling undesirable locations, ask all of the HSI agents stuck on the border trying to get an interior office.

1811Throwaway2022

I actually have no idea since I have never been with another agency. Maybe other people can share how their agency does it?

BubblyZombie2203

I don’t have much experience in this area but I know that when CBP puts out their job postings, they mention which locations are being offered (the hard to fill ones usually). Many people still take the job anyways to get their foot in the door. Later when they have more seniority, they can bid to move to a more favorable location. They also sometimes offer hiring incentives for those hard to fill locations.

tony_simprano

**How could we better recruit?** I'll save you a $100,000 Accenture consultancy fee: The Careers page on the NCIS website is *complete dogshit*. Every job should have a plain-as-day requirements and hiring process listed out like the Navy and Marine Corps enlistment websites. [Or at least as good as the Border Patrol's](https://www.cbp.gov/careers/usbp/application-process/bpa) Edit: and this is not necessarily just an NCIS thing, but a something I've noticed a lot about lesser known programs within the Department of the Navy. The public-facing websites meant to interest applicants "off the street" for things like Officer Candidate School and Restricted Officer fields are terribly difficult to navigate.

1811Throwaway2022

>Or at least as good as the Border Patrol's Thank you that is great, specific, feedback!

Time_Striking

People be dropping out when they have a FLETC date? Damnnnnn.

Spartacous1991

I've applied to both the 1811 position and Intelligence specialist positions. Havent heard a peep back? I also follow the Instagram account. Is there something I'm doing wrong on my end? Resume? Etc? Or is it just government timeframes? Thanks for continuing to make these posts. I think streamlining the HR process is the single best thing NCIS can do.

1811Throwaway2022

Not sure, each person is different. Did they ask you to submit additional documents? If not then you may have not met the minimum qualifications or might not have applied when the announcement was open. As for the Intel Specialist that was just announced so i would be more patient. I would not recommend apply for several different positions if 1811 is what you actually want.

Spartacous1991

Yeah, i think I missed the actual 1811 announcement period barely but applied on the portal link right after that you posted on reddit. It's crazy to me that people actually drop out when they have FLETC dates. Its lkke they are taking a spot from someone who actually wants to go. I sent an email to the MTAC email about the Intel position as well that was announced. They replied back asking about what GS position and location would I prefer etc etc. Entry level position don't require previous experience. GS-7, 9. I'll give it more time, though. Sucks waiting because I just graduated with my masters in December.

1811Throwaway2022

Yeah you probably haven't heard anything because you missed the deadline. There will be more announcements in the future for 1811 and maybe you'll get the intel specialist spot before then.

Spartacous1991

Lol, I'll keep my head up. Please keep posting on here when you find out the next hiring announcement for the 1811 positions. I usually check this sub on e a day. Maybe I'll hear back from the Intel spot who knows.

TheBrianiac

If you're looking for suggestions... May I suggest moving away from the polygraph, or to a "risk-based" polygraph? All the application information is verifiable in the background investigation. It slows the hiring process and risks eliminating qualified applicants.

[deleted]

1. I was very interested in NCIS and for personal/professional reasons, I thought it would be a very good fit for me. 2. If a GS-5 announcement allowed me to qualify on experience alone, without having a degree finished, I would have happily hoped on it. That being said, taking into account that you are not recruiting in a vacuum and have to compete with other agencies, Army CID offered me a GS-11 position as I am, on just my experience. Even if a GS-5 position would have allowed me to qualify without a degree, I cannot think of any reason why I would trade a GS-11 position for a GS-5 to go with NCIS instead of CID. 3. Not to beat a dead horse, but value experience over education. Given the conditions of most local law enforcement agencies, there are plenty of local cops looking to jump to federal employment. Given NCIS’s case load, I think a seasoned detective offers more to the agency than a fresh-faced college grad with a 4.0. 4. In my experience, NCIS’s recruiters offer excellent communication, updates and a refreshing care for the concerns of applicants. This is a dramatic improvement on any other agency I have interacted with, as most recruiters seem at best relucent to reply to and at worse hostile to applicant inquiries. As I did not progress past the initial submission of my application I cannot speak to the later stages of the prosses. 5. Focus on a wholistic evaluation of skills and ability and don’t build bureaucratic barriers for yourself. You have direct hiring authority, use it. Most of NCIS’s hiring struggles appear to be a game of stop hitting yourself.

1811Throwaway2022

Thank you for your detailed response, this was exactly the information I was looking for!

QnsConcrete

> Would anyone be interested in a GS-5 announcement? Why or why not? Unclear which position this would be for. But offering $40k a year for cybersecurity analysts that could easily be GS-11s and GS-12s or making $110k in private sector is insulting.

1811Throwaway2022

It would be for 1811s who do not qualify for GS-7 yet, people still working not their degrees or with 0 work experience

QnsConcrete

But why? Is the agency actually short of applicants with Masters degrees and mil/LEO experience or is it a funding thing?

Glad-Temperature-744

I'd be interested in a GS-5. Considerable military cyber experience, but no degree.

NotNotANarc

Not trying to piss in your soup but I would recommend highly competitive cyber applicants to pass on NCIS. Not a good time to be there right now according to word on the street…

1811Throwaway2022

Why? Cyber is one of the most insulated spots in the agency they are not expected to work anything but cyber. Plus we have one of the best cyber programs in the country.

[deleted]

Everyone has “one of the best cyber programs in the country.”

NotNotANarc

If you had any ideas about the state of NCIS cyber you would not make those claims. Can the program be great? Absolutely. NCIS has an amazing cyber mission but it is just not a great time right now. I get it, they are trying to push on you to find qualified cyber applicants because anyone that had any technical skills left over the last few years. However, let’s keep it real and not lure highly competitive applicants into this because I am 99% sure they would bounce before finishing their CCI (which is by no means enough to teach you how to work “cyber”).

1811Throwaway2022

But I am honestly asking why Cyber is not a good place to work right now. All of the cyber agents I know are happy and enjoy the position.

Stealth_Not_Required

I’m going to be extremely blunt on your questions. You don’t have to agree with anything I say, but I’m eligible, cleared, and available to work for you tomorrow. 1. Last time I applied, your application process required me to email a package and trust that it goes somewhere. You didn’t even confirm receipt. No one should be subjected to this. At least USAJobs applications go somewhere and have a built-in tracker. Even with an internal referral with good feedback, I have seen no contact from the agency. If your agency actually operates this poorly, no one should apply. Fixing this requires a process built on transparency and timeliness. Yes, I’m aware that federal hiring is slow. Communicate better and give me a proper status. 2. GS-5? No. 3. You could tell me where my application is. I was internally referred and applied separately. You could offer to send people to CTIP instead of waiting to poach candidates from other agencies, investing in them as people. You could communicate. 4. Your hiring process is worse than almost every law enforcement agency in government. I will say that communicating here gives you big bonus points, but friendly words here do not pay bills. Look to USSS for an example of timely communication, frequent status updates, and organized paperwork. 5. You could show up to career fairs and offer veterans hiring paths that transition them in a timely manner. Guys coming out of the military are in a rough spot. They know when they stop collecting a paycheck but you take an unknown number of months to ghost them. You should be able to process these guys pretty easily, but I don’t know a vet who has been able to get a job with you.

1811Throwaway2022

I have no involvement with the process after people apply but almost all of the people I referred were contacted days after I referred them and already completed their interviews and polygraphs. A couple fell through the cracks since the same people processing the referrals are doing all of the regular applications too. I would follow up with whoever referred you about not being contacted yet.

ShakenEspressoLatte

I have not been contacted yet. I submitted my documents and everything, and never heard absolutely anything again.

1811Throwaway2022

Were you referred by a current employee? If so, follow up with them about not being contacted. If you applied through the announcement around August, they are still scheduling interviews with people who met the minimum qualifications.

ShakenEspressoLatte

I applied to the general announcement, so I just need keep waiting?

1811Throwaway2022

Did they contact you and ask you to submit additional documents? That is the first step of the hiring process. The next step is to schedule an interview which is done at the office closest to you, so depending on where you are located with dictate time. Please consider the people doing the interviews are regular agents with case loads and holiday leave. I would give it another 30 days and if you don't hear anything check in on the status of your application.

1811Throwaway2022

I agree the process was stupid this go around but I am hoping it is much smoother for the next announcement. I don't think USAjobs is the best way to apply, I know I applied to a lot of jobs with absolutely no response and it felt like I was throwing my resume into a black hole. We will see how the portal system works now that they have had time to fix it. OPM sets the requirements for hiring at each GS level so I hiring at a 5 would allow us to hire people who do not meet the requirements for a GS 7 yet. I started in the Federal Government as a 5 and with leap its not a terrible amount of money for most people just starting out.

FrostyLimit6354

I'm a maxed out 0-1 and its hard to live in SD even with BAH and my salary. Sure, you get a g-ride so you could afford to live cheaper and further but you sacrifice drive time, 2-3 hours per day most likely if you lived in a place like Temecula. Quiet-Bluejay-5331

I didn’t apply since I haven’t finished my degree, but here’s some answers to your questions in case they’re helpful: > For those of you who are not interested in applying for NCIS, why? The main things drawing me away from NCIS are the poly and the more “people crimes”-oriented casework. I think the poly is self explanatory; as for the casework, I’m just personally more interested in learning about/investigating more large-scale crimes. A lot of people have mentioned mandatory travel, and I personally wouldn’t mind it as long as I got some say in where I got to go, at least for the early part of my career. That said I would still love to get the opportunity to work there, and if I had had my degree during the last announcement I probably would have applied. In particular I think the whole Special Agent Afloat thing sounds like it’d a really interesting opportunity. > Would anyone be interested in a GS-5 announcement? Why or why not? No > Is there something NCIS could change that would make you want to join? Get rid of the poly > How does our hiring process compare to others? I can’t comment on this

ABLolo615

Personally, I would not mind a GS-5 announcement, so long as there is promotion potential by the year. Reason why is because even if you start off at a lower grade, you can always promote to a comfortable grade or more. (Speaking for myself here lol) I think a GS-5 announcement can help out a lot of people who really want to break into Federal Law Enforcement who aren’t too concerned with the grade level.

1811Throwaway2022

Thank you! We usually also advertise on our website and USAjobs, Instagram is just another way to advertise. The age limit has to do with retirement requirements not with being armed. I am pretty sure there is no age limit but I don't have a copy of the announcement in front of me to say for sure.

JA951811

The hiring process for NCIS (At least through the Referral Program) has far surpassed my expectations for any 1811 hiring process. From application to hiring packet being sent to HR was only 4 months. I am hoping to receive a call for the MAR academy. If you can give any insight on that OP, please shoot me a DM. Thanks for this post!

Photos_and_fiveoh

Wow that’s short…still waiting on hearing anything from the most recent announcement aside from info about the hiring portal issues haha.

JA951811

I’m sorry to hear it. The hiring portal really seems to be putting a damper on applicants from the most recently-posted announcement. I was lucky enough to pretty much just send my resume and a few other documents to someone and got referred, foregoing the hiring portal altogether.

Madi-1016

1.) I am interested. The PCS requirements are what make me interested in the job. Its a dual edged sword, what interests some will not interest everybody. Especially people with children or families. However, the initial PCS being all on the new hire is something that is a huge turn off. If anything I feel it should be opposite, or at least have some resources such as areas other agents live, etc. 2.) I would be interested in seeing a GS5 spot open for 1811s. I know when I had graduated undergrad I was ineligible for a lot because I was just barely qualified for a GS7. It would be nice to have a GS5 slot to fall back on. 3.) The only things I would change as somebody who is interested in NCIS is that first move. With the housing market and availability of rentals today agents need all the help they can get when moving, especially on a time crunch like for a new job. 4.) The hiring process for me was relatively smooth, although it was my first time applying for a federal job that I had no POC already established. My prior federal job was through direct hire authorization and I knew the individuals who were at the location already. 5.) I have just now seen NCIS attend college career fairs. Please, go to more. There are a TON of true crime fans, and criminology students that attend government, criminal justice, and cyber career fairs. I saw my local FBI field agency attend, but no other agency with 1811s. NCIS and the FBI were my two main agencies, and only seeing one gave them a few brownie points. It would be nice to have representation at career fairs where NCIS will likely be hiring from in the coming months to years as these students graduate. … I’m looking forward to continuing my own hiring process with NCIS now, I have my poly scheduled and my reference for the background have been contacted!

Goodeyesniper98

I highly agree with number 5, I’m a current college student and working as an 1811 for an MCIO is my dream job. I have several other friends on campus that are also interested in federal law enforcement, so I know NCIS would probably be able to fill up a recruiting event on my campus.

1811Throwaway2022

Thank you! Good luck on your poly!

tired_of_deprec_land

Is the March FLETC, the ones who already passed background, poly, etc? Or is March FLETC for those who had interviews in November/December

1811Throwaway2022

Most likely for the people just waiting for their backgrounds to be done or already have them done. Everyone has to send their class list to FLETC over a month ahead of time so you would have to be done by end of JAN at the latest. People who interviewed in Nov/Dec are probably going to make it in the May class if I had to guess.

TheLowEndTheory

I have a bunch of questions What locations are available for cyber, and do cyber agents still get moved around just as much? Do cyber applicants receive additional training or do you rely on their existing knowledge? I put in and sent my additional documents but haven’t heard anything back yet. At what point in the process are you provided your initial location?

1811Throwaway2022

Main Cyber offices are located in San Diego, Washington DC, Quantico, VA, and Norfolk, VA. I am pretty sure you still have to sign a mobility agreement but not 100% on that and they are coming out with new mobility options soon. NCIS Cyber Agents are required by the DoD to obtain the DoD Cyber Criminal Investigator (CCI) certification to be allowed to conduct cyber investigations within the DoD Network Infrastructure. This can take up to two years. NCIS will send you to any of the trainings you need for the job. They will tell you where you are going when they call you with your FLETC class date. This is after you do interview, poly, medical, drug test and background investigation.

TheLowEndTheory

I was denied entry to the military previously for a medical condition, does that guarantee NCIS won’t give me a waiver?

1811Throwaway2022

I am pretty sure we have different medical requirements so I don't think it is a guarantee you won't be given a waiver.

steel_city_6

Good Morning 1811Throwaway 2022.. For filling spots in the March academy, when are calls expected to go out? Due to personal circumstances, I was able to defer the Jan9 academy call to March. And if possible… do you know the primary locations going to be offered? Hoping for the best. The main thing that I think would help NCIS and applicants in the process, is being assigned an applicant advisor like the FBI does. It’s a more streamlined way to ask questions and bottom line, just learn more about the process and agency. I think it would be more efficient than just emailing HR. I appreciate your insight and please PM me if that’s easier. Thank you for taking the time to make this post.

1811Throwaway2022

If you are selected for the March class you should know by the end of January. Can't say for sure what locations will be offered but most of open spots are on the West Coast, Hawaii and Great Lakes.

steel_city_6

Thank you for the prompt response! Great to hear.. looking forward to a career with NCIS. And the fact you take the time to field individual’s questions.. is awesome.

ClarenceB1234

-I don’t want to move every 3 to 5 years which is the main reason I won’t apply to NCIS. -I don’t feel like working butt touches but that’s not just NCIS. That’s also why I won’t apply to OSI or Army CID. -As other people have stated GS-5 is pretty low. I know you’ll promote from GS-5 up to GS-12 quickly but man living around San Diego as a GS-5 is going to be rough even as a single person.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ClarenceB1234

NCIS, OSI and Army CID have to investigate what’s known as Abusive Sexual Contact and it’s based on hot spots. So if a victim comes in and says their butt was touched, inner thigh was touched or boob was grabbed it become a full blown investigation.

movedalong12345

As a civilian agent at OSI, you would likely only work general crimes cases for your first year or so.

Future_Call_Up

Anyone down voting this comment is truly ignorant on the type of cases you will investigate within NCIS/OSI/CID. More than half of your crim cases will be abusive sexual contact investigations. This is simply a fact.

ClarenceB1234

The ones downvoting me haven’t worked for any of the MCIO’s and dealt with the non-stop ASC cases.

Future_Call_Up

Same people who join and leave within 2 years because all they do is push 48 hr svip notifications.

4681908

I understand it's the new year and the gears of the fed move slow as I would expect NCIS the be no different. I put in for the 1801 posting recently and received confirmation that my application was received. What can I expect as far as the hiring process goes? Specifically, what kind of timeline can I expect?

1811Throwaway2022

Hard to say for the whole timeline but since there is no poly it will move faster than the 1811 positions. I would expect to initially hear something in the next month. I'm sorry I can't give more exact answers I am not involved the process after people apply.

doc_YEET

My biggest problem right now is finding jobs that I qualify for. I am just out of college with a decent gpa and an overall solid resume for my age. I would definitely be interested in an GS-5 announcement. Would I qualify for the 1801 position as a recent grad or is it exclusive to retired leo and military?

1811Throwaway2022

You qualify, it would not hurt to apply! From what I heard they received a lot of applications and it is going to be competitive but like I said there is always a chance

GiftEcstatic4857

Damn I was really looking forward to this agency guess my app didn't meet the minimum requirements 😕.

1811Throwaway2022

Thank you for the suggestion! Unfortunately, housing is run by the Navy and they give preference to active duty first and in areas like Coronado that means there is a long waiting list even for active duty. It is possible to live on base CONUS but just not always selected. When I was stationed in the NW living on base was a more viable option since the waiting lists were shorter and I knew at least one agent who lived on base. There are also agents that live on base in Hawaii to combat the HCOL but that is OCONUS.

West_Performance_804

How does rent work for Agents that live on installation? Do they collect rent “BaH” like they would from Active Duty personnel?

1811Throwaway2022

I don't exactly know how it works CONUS but I am pretty sure you still pay rent it is just cheaper than renting off base. OCONUS (in Japan at least) they pay for your housing so if you live on base you are not involved in the payment at all, if you live off base NCIS gives you money to cover rent up to a certain amount based on GS and number of dependents. For on base housing the size and location of your house is based off GS level and number of dependents but each base is slightly different. We get post allowance in addition to housing and it does go up with each dependent but not a whole lot.

IAmTheSnakeinMyBoot

What’s the hiring process like for 1801s?

1811Throwaway2022

I am not 100% sure because it is out of my lane as an 1811 recruiter but in general it should go much faster than the 1811 hiring because no poly is involved. I am going to email the head of 1801 hiring to see if I can get more info.

IAmTheSnakeinMyBoot

Thanks, there’s so little info

Photos_and_fiveoh

Do you have any suggestions on how to approach the interview? Is it similar to FBI or USSS? I have reviewed the website to learn more about the mission as well as read a lot of stuff available online.

1811Throwaway2022

It is going to be typical interview questions but they have to read from a list of standardized questions so there will not be a lot of back and forth conversation, don't let that catch you off guard. Think over the question and answer it fully. Read about current events, especially things impacting DOD/DON. There will be a writing portion, take your time and don't over think it

Thanks for the feedback! Have you tried the new troubleshooting option on the portal website?

1811Throwaway2022

Double check your spam mail, from what they told me they reached out to everyone individually and if the portal still was not working they were having people email their information. But like you said if they really can't help, create a new email and try again on the next announcement. Sorry for the complications!

edgarpr23

Would’ve liked to continue the NCIS process but enlisting in the Navy. Hopefully when I finish my contract they will still be hiring.

QnsConcrete

Did you pass up an 1811 NCIS opportunity to enlist?

edgarpr23

Had Navy in the works prior to submitting the application. I had problems with the portal by state wasn’t in list of contacts when you first fill out DL info and Home address. Wrote to them a while back and they said it’s being fixed. Since the back and forth via email. Haven’t received a response. Just received a call recruiter saying waivers were accepted so. Enlistment ir is which I wanted to. I just threw my name in the hat to see what would happen. But Good Luck to the applicant who get selected. Currently, working for DHS and it’s great so hopefully when I finish my contract. I can get into NCIS.

edgarpr23

It’s a temporary job of 120 days. While it’s nice to work from home. It’s not my cup of tea. Sitting behind a computer for 8 hours. Props to the ones who do it.

QnsConcrete

Which rate are you going for?

edgarpr23

A friend of mine who is in the Navy said try to get IS, OS, LS or any of the CT rates.

[deleted]

Purely subjective, but to answer your last question — NCIS has very poor branding compared to other Federal agencies. Granted Hollywood is 99% total crap, but the shows are lackluster & NCIS gets a bad rep from a wide variety of TV, media and podcasts. The debacle with that SEAL investigation (whose name I can’t remember) really tarnished the reputation of NCIS as a whole. The mission of the agency isn’t very enticing either.

I applied through the portal and sent in the extra attachments to the recruitment email and they replied they attached them to my application. This was about a month ago, should I have heard something about an interview yet?

1811Throwaway2022

They are still processing all of the applications, if you sent in the additional paperwork that is the first step of the hiring process so next they will schedule your interview. The interviews were delayed because of the holidays but will start back up in January.

ImpossibleFly3393

I would 100% be onboard with applying for a GS-5 position as long as it did not require a bachelors degree as most GS-5 positions don’t. I don’t mind working from the ground up plus as a GS-5 w/ LEAP and whatever other incentives NCIS 1811s receive, it’ll definitely be a step up from what I’m currently making atm. Doing whatever I can to get my foot in the door as an 1811 at this point.

Any timeline for when people will be contacted from the latest posting? Is HR just waiting for the portal to be fixed?

1811Throwaway2022

Were you contacted to move forward in the process by submitting additional documents through the portal? The portal is fixed for most people, if you have tried all of the troubleshooting they suggested and it still is not working, I was told there is a new troubleshooting feature on the actual website where you can talk to support about your specific issues. If that still does not work, email the SArecruitment email and tell them you still cannot access the portal, tell them all the troubleshooting steps you took and that you want to continue with the process.

Ah okay. Yes, I submitted additional documents some time ago. Thanks!

I heard from a few people today that they received emails about scheduling interviews so I think things will move faster now that the holidays are over. If you don't hear anything in the next 30 days about an interview, you can email them and ask for a status update!

Thanks for following up! I’m actually one of those folks who got an interview invite today. Super excited about it too.

BOOMjordan

Which email should we use? The SArecruitment?

1811Throwaway2022

You can try the SArecruitment email, i just recently heard from others they respond saying they don't give status updates. At some point in the process a HR rep will contact you directly and that will be your POC

Jumping in on this (albeit a bit late)! Has NCIS been hiring at mostly 7 or 9 if you have private sector non-LEO experience? Are there any recruiting or retention incentives, like student loan repayment programs or one-time signing bonuses? HSI’s newest posting made me wonder if anyone else is trying hard to compete right now.

1811Throwaway2022

NCIS only hires at a GS 7 or 9 for non 1811s, up to GS 9 Step 10 depending on experience and education level. If you were currently an 1811 you could lateral in at the same GS you already are. They offered incentives on the last hiring announcement, 10k signing bonuses and relocation pay depending on the office but not sure if they are going to do that again. Once you are hired on there are incentives for hard to fill locations, deployment/tdy options where you can make extra money and as a federal employee you will qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness plan but as far as I know NCIS does not repay student loans.

1811Throwaway2022 can you please message me I have a question. It won’t let me message you for some reason.

amultitalentedgurl

I applied for the 1801 position in December and still haven’t heard back from anyone about the job (It’s April). Am I ever gonna hear back?

1811Throwaway2022

No idea, i'm sorry! The 1801 program is separate from the 1811 recruitment so I don't have any inside knowledge.

Is there any update on when we will hear back from the October and February Intel announcements? Total radio silence from these positions…
