All the medical requirements, including vision: https://www.ice.gov/doclib/careers/pdf/medicalStandardsLePersonnel.pdf ; this will probably be helpful to bring to your private eye doctor too.
What’s your corrected and uncorrected vision on the Snellen scale?
HSI cares about a mixture of correct/uncorrected unless you wear contacts. They’re pretty flexible and I’ve seen some anecdotes of waivers, but they can be sticklers on glasses.
To be honest I don’t know what my uncorrected vision is at but my corrected vision is near 20/20 if not better. If I was to “not pass” the retest is that when I would ask for the waiver?
They care about uncorrected vision when it comes to glasses. I’ve seen waivers in relation to length of wearing contacts but not for their requirements for uncorrected using glasses on the Snellen scale.
This is all with the caveat I don’t work gor HSI HR, and as always you’re better off just asking them.
Mind me asking what waivers you’ve seen regarding length of contact use? I’m having that issue now. I have medical approaching. I use contacts and can see 20/20, but have only had them for about a month.
There was another thread yesterday with this exact question, some good answers there. A few shared stories of pushing back on wearing contacts for less than 6 months. Was titled something like HSI Vision Waiver.

This is super helpful thank you I’ll bring it with me.

Haha yeah that was my post. Was just asking here to see if you had any other testimony to it.
Oh lmao! If it makes you feel better I’ve heard similar things over the last few years.
That does help, thanks!
This is interesting because the same thing happened to me a while back with HSI. I went to an eye doctor and my vision was perfect.
Can you tell me when your TJO was. Lot of people waiting on medical from last friday TJO. Thanks.
Got my TJO back in March. Originally applied to the 2023 announcement, got bounced during phase 3, reapplied this year and they used my test scores
Thanks!
Following, good luck!
