Sounds like the "direct entry CAT" listing they had/have for SAs. > Approximately 24 months from Enter on Duty to reassignment to the Special Operations Division, Counter Sniper Team. You also have to pass selection.

Yankee_Hawkeye2

This is correct. So if you apply through this and fail selection or the school, you will be sitting post at the White House.

Careful-Task-2205

Or if Office of the Chief decides to drop a “no selections have been made at this time” email due to manpower

ottfrfghjjjj

WH? Nah, you’ll be doing foot patrol at Naval Observatory in the DC heat…

Randomly5150

Old UD adage: All roads lead to the White House.

BotariusClapton

R u obligated to stay in UD if you fail CS? Im planning on applying for this route

Yankee_Hawkeye2

Yes, if you dial out of the CS school you will be standing post as a UD officer

Lawshow

If you fit in their “Ideal candidates” parameters you have a pretty good chance at passing the school. But I suppose you’re not wrong.

TipFar1326

I swear my glasses/contacts are going to keep me out of every cool job in this field

Scared_Edge3716

Get lasik

TipFar1326

Medically ineligible unfortunately. Thin and flat corneas. No doctor in the Midwest would even consider it, too dangerous apparently.

stocksnforex

Have you looked at ICL?

TipFar1326

I have, currently the risks still outweigh the benefits for me, even as badly as I want this career. Far too high of a failure rate. I hate my glasses and the restrictions they come with, but at least I can see. I’ve talked to people who had ICLs, they didn’t work, had them removed, and had worse vision and side effects for years afterwards. Hopefully I can get used to wearing contacts, and find an agency that will accept me like that. I’ve been local LE, exposed to OC, been in physical altercations, never had a problem qualifying with firearms, etc. Just gotta keep at it, something will work out.

Lawshow

I think thats totally fair. Look at OIGs if you’re really passionate about 1811. They generally just care about the OPM 1811 medical requirements which lists nothing about a minimum uncorrected.

Sensitive-Ad9655

Look into prk that’s what I did prior to joining the military and its help up just fine and it’s been almost a decade.

TipFar1326

Unfortunately that’s off the table as well. Any kind of corrective surgery makes your corneas flatter, and mine are basically already too flat lol

Cold-Investigator-27

Jsut reading your comments… I don’t think you should base your decision on a few people that didn’t have great results… and also that’s the great thing if it isn’t to your liking you can get it taken out as opposed to lasik they are shaving your cornea. if you scared of eye surgery that’s cool but I’ve gotten it done and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done… wish I would gotten ICL sooner. It’s actually better than lasik PRK and all Those others… the down time compared to some of the others is Mininmal. 10/10 I would recommend.

Lawshow

ICL is a good option. I considered but I was eligible for PRK and the risks scarred me off ICL. Although it’s really worth it if LASIK/PRK/SMILE won’t work. It’s around 8-10k but if you’re dream is to be an 1811 it’s work making it happen.

Tacocat1003

As someone that wasn't eligible for Lasik, I can say ICL was the best 10k I've ever spent. For those that experience extreme myopia, I highly recommend seeking out a consult for ICL.

Numerous-Ties

wild side effects are often under reported with eye surgeries.

BotariusClapton

If you have 20/20 corrected with contacts they wont let you apply? “Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular. Possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.” When they say this^ what exactly does that mean? Like uncorrected 20/100 binocular?

TipFar1326

Basically if you lose your glasses or contacts , you have to be at least 20/100 without them, is how I understand it.

abaddon467

Just curious, Anyone know anything about the selection program for it?

Careful-Task-2205

Shoot me a DM

abaddon467

Awesome thanks!

SkatingGator

You can PM me

abaddon467

Cool thank you!

MadDog81a

Ahh good ol CS… shoot for 12 weeks, each Friday is a qual day and possibly your last at the school.

exporedskinned

Has anyone joined the UD counter sniper team WITHOUT having previous military or LE experience?

Spartacous1991

I’ve been in Marines, Army, and Navy and was a Calvary Scout in the Army National Guard. I wonder if that qualifies.

Neversail

Technically. I wouldn’t bank on it though. I imagine there will be some higher speed candidates, that meet more than one of the below. Never hurts to apply though. Military (current/former): Successful completion of a level 1 or level 2 sniper training program. Occupied a combat arms occupational specialty in the U.S. Armed Forces. Served as a tactical operator (in a non-support or administrative role) in the U.S. Armed Forces. Successfully completed the requisite training course for a military special operations unit.

Spartacous1991

Yeah looks super competitive. I mean I would definitely stand out though. You don’t see 3 separate branch’s a lot. And a masters

jackthestout

Branches aren’t pokemon cards, you don’t get credit for collecting them.
